मिथुन लग्न वालों के लिए नौवे घर में शनि की कुंभ राशि पड़ती है। इसलिए बुध की चतुराई तथा बुद्धि में शनि एक प्रकार की गंभीरता भी पैदा करता है। इसके प्रभाव से व्यक्ति अपने शारीरिक श्रम तथा विवेक द्वारा अपने जीवन में उन्नति करता है और उसे भूमि तथा भवन का सुख प्राप्त होने की संभावना भी रहती है।

यहाँ पर बैठा हुआ बुध अपनी सातवीं दृष्टि से तृतीय भाव को देखता है और तृतीय भाव में बुध के मित्र गृह सूर्य की सिंह राशि पड़ती है। इस कारण से व्यक्ति में पराक्रम की शक्ति अच्छी होती है और उसके भाइयों के साथ संबंध भी ठीक रहता है।

यदि हम ध्यान से देखें, तो हमारे लगभग सभी प्राचीन ग्रंथों ने भाग्य स्थान में बैठे बुध की बहुत प्रशंसा की है। आचार्य वराहमिहिर का मत है कि नौवें घर में यदि बुध हो तो उस व्यक्तिं की औलाद और संपत्ति के लिए बुध अच्छा फल देता है। इसी तरह आचार्य वशिष्ठ का मत है कि यहाँ बुध होने से व्यक्ति धार्मिक कार्यों में विशेष रुचि रखता है। मेरा अपना विचार है कि वह आदमी पूर्ण रूप से ही धार्मिक हो या उसमें आध्यात्मिक होने का बहुत बड़ा अंश हो, यह हमेशा देखने में नहीं आता। इसका कारण यह है कि यदि हम काल-पुरुष कुंडली के हिसाब से देखें तो नौवें घर में धर्म के कारक ग्रह बृहस्पति की धनु राशि पड़ती है और बुध बृहस्पति का शत्रु है। इसलिए ऐसे व्यक्ति में धर्म की बहुत बड़ी गहराई होना संभव नहीं। हाँ, ये बात जरूर है कि धर्म के क्षेत्र में वह दुनियावी तौर पर जरूर रुचि रखता है। ऐसी रुचि को मैं बिल्कुल पाखंड तो नहीं कहता लेकिन उसके अपने अंतःकरण में जो आध्यात्म की विश्वासपूर्ण शक्ति होनी चाहिए उसमें किसी-न-किसी तरह की कमी जरूर रह जाती है।

बृहद् यवन जातक ग्रंथ में जिक्र आता है कि इस घर में बुध होने से उनतीसवें वर्ष में उस व्यक्ति की माता की मृत्यु होती है। यह विचार ठीक प्रतीत नहीं होता। क्योंकि, नौवें घर का माता से कोई विशेष संबंध नहीं है। दूसरा बुध का उनतीसवें साल से भी कोई संबंध नहीं है क्योंकि हमारे जीवन में बुध का पूर्ण प्रभाव हमारे चौंतीस और पैंतीस साल की आयु में पड़ता है। इसी ग्रंथ में आगे जाकर वर्णन आता है कि बत्तीसवें वर्ष में उस व्यक्ति का भाग्य उदय होता है। लाल किताब के अनुसार बत्तीसवाँ वर्ष वास्तव में मंगल के प्रभाव के वर्षों में आता है। क्योंकि, हमारे जीवन पर मंगल का प्रभाव अट्ठाईस साल की आयु से लेकर तैंतीस साल की आयु तक पड़ता है। इसलिए यहाँ पर बुध होने से चौंतीस या पैंतीस साल में उन्नति होना संभव है। लेकिन बत्तीसवें साल में ऐसा होना ठीक प्रतीत नहीं होता ।

आर्य ग्रंथकारों ने कहा है कि यदि यहाँ पर बुध पाप ग्रहों के साथ हो तो वह व्यक्ति कुमार्ग की ओर जाने वाला होता है। यहाँ कुमार्ग से मतलब गलत रास्तों पर जाने से है, परंतु यदि बुध के साथ कोई भी शुभ ग्रह हो या किसी भी शुभ ग्रह की दृष्टि पड़ती हो तो ये बात संभव नहीं। लेकिन, यदि यहाँ पर बुध के साथ मंगल हो तब ऐसा होना संभव है। ज्योतिषी काटवे के अनुसार बुध हमारा संगति देव है, यानी बुध उन लोगों का कारक है, जिनके संपर्क में हम आते हैं। मंगल और बुध दोनों के साथ होने से उस व्यक्ति के जीवन में, विशेषकर पैंतीस वर्ष की आयु से पहले के जीवन में कभी-कभी ऐसा जरूर होता है कि वह अच्छी संगति से दूर रहकर ऐसे लोगों के संपर्क में आता है जिनके कारण उसका समय नष्ट होता है और समय नष्ट होने के कारण वह अपने जीवन के कुछ सुनहरी मौकों को हाथ से खो सकता है अथवा जीवन में जो अच्छी प्राप्ति की संभावना हो वह कम हो जाती है। सिर्फ मंगल के साथ बुध का होना आदमी को किसी-न-किसी समय में कुमार्ग पर डाल सकता है। किसी और ग्रह की दृष्टि से संयोग से ऐसा होना देखने में कम आया है।

कुछ आधुनिक ज्योतिषियों का विचार है कि यहाँ बुध होने से व्यक्ति भाषाशास्त्र में बहुत प्रवीण हो सकता है। इसी तरह उसकी बुद्धि में शोधपूर्ण कार्य करने की क्षमता भी काफी होती है। नई चीजों को नई दृष्टि से देखने के फलस्वरूप उसमें अनेक प्रकार की सृजनात्मकता की संभावना बढ़ जाती है। यदि यहाँ बुध के साथ मंगल और केतु क्षेत्रों का संबंध हो, तो वह व्यक्ति अपने जीवन में बहुत समय तक पागलों की तरह भटकता रहता है और अपने विचारों को ठीक ढंग से रूप न दे पाने के कारण उसकी सफलता में कमी रह जाती है।

मिथुन लग्न वालों के लिए यह भी कहा जाता है, कि नवम घर में बुध होने से व्यक्ति की शादी के बाद उसका भाग्य उदय होता है तथा उसके जीवन में पहले के मुकाबले ज्यादा स्थिरता आती है। ऐसे व्यक्ति के लिए किसी समाचार-पत्र का संपादक या प्रकाशन के कार्य में रुचि रखना, किसी प्रकार का लेखन-कार्य करना, स्कूल या कॉलेज में शिक्षक होना भी अच्छे फल देते हैं। वास्तव में कहने का मतलब है कि ऐसे व्यक्ति को विद्या को बढ़ाते रहना उसके स्वभाव का एक हिस्सा बन जाता है। आज के युग के कार्यों में ऐसे व्यक्ति के लिए कंप्यूटर से संबंधित कार्यों में भी सफलता का काफी मौका आ सकता है।

लाल किताब में इस घर के बुध को कोढ़ी या राजा कहकर पुकारा है। बहुत से लोगों को इसकी ठीक परिभाषा जरा मुश्किल हो जाती है। वास्तव में, बुध एक कोढ़ी की तरह अपना प्रभाव उस समय देगा जब नौवें घर का मालिक भी नौवें घर में आ जाए। जैसे मिथुन लग्न वालों के लिए शनि भी नौवें घर में बुध के साथ बैठ जाए या लाल किताब के अनुसार काल-पुरुष कुंडली के हिसाब से बृहस्पति भी नौवें घर में बैठ जाए तो बुध एक कोड़ी की तरह अपना अशुभ प्रमाण देगा। लेकिन इसका मतलब यह नहीं कि यहाँ बैठा हुआ बुध किसी भी दूसरे ग्रह के साथ होने से बुरा ही फल दे। यहाँ पर बुध होने के लिए बेशक व्यक्ति को अपनी कमाई के लिए बहुत जद्दोजहद करनी पड़े, किंतु वह अपने परिवार तथा कबीले के दूसरे लोगों का पालन जरूर करता है। यहाँ पर बुध की हालत को ठीक ढंग से समझने के लिए एक और फरमान में जिक्र आता है कि यदि भाव नंबर ग्यारह में कोई ग्रह हो तो बुध का असर शुभ रहता है। यदि ग्यारह नंबर भाव खाली हो तो लाल किताब में ऐसे बुध को बेतुका और बेशर्म लड़की कहकर पुकारा है जिसके कारण उस व्यक्ति के जीवन में अच्छा फल नहीं मिलता। कई दफा ऐसी हालत में जीवन के किसी-न-किसी स्तर पर उस व्यक्ति की कोई बदनामी होने का डर भी रहता है या किसी प्रकार की तोहमत लगने की संभावना भी होती है। यदि यहाँ बुध हो और वह व्यक्ति किसी साधु आदि का दिया हुआ ताबीज पहने या अपने घर में रखे तब बुध का बुरा प्रभाव आरंभ होता है और वह व्यक्ति को किसी-न-किसी चक्कर में डाल देता है।

यदि इस घर में बैठा हुआ बुध अशुभ प्रभाव देने लगे तो उसके अशुभ असर को दूर करने के लिए लोहे की गोल चीज या गोली पर लाल रंग करके अपने पास रखने से बुध का जहर दूर हो सकता है। इसके अलावा यहाँ के अशुभ बुध के लिए नाकछेदन करवाना भी अच्छा उपाय है। कुछ हालातों में यदि बुध का बुरा प्रभाव आदमी की बुद्धि पर, बहन पर, बुआ या लड़की पर पड़ रहा हो तो ऐसी हालत में किसी मिट्टी के बर्तन में खुम्ब डालकर किसी धर्मस्थान मंदिर आदि में देने से बुध का बुरा असर दूर हो जाएगा और इससे उसके कामकाज पर भी अच्छा प्रभाव पड़ना आरंभ होगा।

नवम घर में यदि बुध के साथ बृहस्पति हो तो बुध वास्तव में ही एक कोढ़ी की तरह अपना असर देगा। इससे पिता के सोने को कोढ़ लग जाएगा अर्थात् पिता की दशा के लिए इसका फल अशुभ हो जाएगा।

यहाँ पर बुध के साथ सूर्य का होना अच्छा फल ही देता है। यहाँ पर दोनों ग्रहों के एक साथ होने से आदमी के कामकाज तथा विद्या-प्राप्ति के क्षेत्र में अच्छा प्रभाव पड़ता है। आमतौर पर उसके जीवन का चौबीसवाँ साल और चौंतीसवाँ साल किसी-न-किसी रूप में खुशी का या उन्नति का होता है।

बुध और चंद्र का इस घर में इकट्ठा होना अच्छा फल ही देता है। लड़‌कियों की कुंडली में उस लड़की का अपनी माता के साथ विशेष प्रेम रहता है तथा माँ की ओर से जीवन में अच्छा योगदान भी मिलता है।

यहाँ पर बुध के साथ शुक्र व्यापार आदि के लिए शुभ ही समझा गया है। कई बार ऐसे आदमी कुछ देर नौकरी करने के बाद अपना काम आरंभ करते हैं और उसमें सफल होने की संभावना रहती है। यदि शुक्र, बुध यहाँ होते हुए उस आदमी की चौंतीस साल की आयु में किसी लड़की का जन्म हो तो वह व्यक्ति के लिए अशुभफल देता है। 

इस घर में बुध के साथ मंगल का होना अच्छा नहीं है। ऐसी हालत में कई दफा पढ़ाई में रुकावटें आती हैं और जीवन में कभी-कभी आदमी बुरी संगति या गलत प्रकार की संगति के प्रभाव से अपना कीमती समय नष्ट कर लेता है।

यहाँ पर बुध और शनि होने की हालत में चौंतीस साल की आयु तक अच्छा असर नहीं रहता। जिसके कारण व्यक्ति की आर्थिक दशा या व्यवसाय में स्थिरता आने में मुश्किल आती है। लेकिन चौंतीस या पैंतीस साल की आयु के बाद ये प्रभाव खत्म हो जाता है।

नौवें घर में बुध के साथ राहु का होना पिता के लिए अच्छा फल नहीं देता। क्योंकि, काल-पुरुष कुंडली के अनुसार नौंवा घर बृहस्पति तथा पिता का पक्का घर है। इसलिए बुध और राहु पिता के लिए अच्छा फल नहीं देते। कई बार इसका अशुभ असर बहन या बुआ पर भी पड़ता है।

यहाँ पर बुध के साथ केतु का होना आदमी के जीवन में स्थिरता नहीं आने देता। उसके जीवन में कई बार या बार-बार मुश्किलों का समय आता है और जीवन में भाग-दौड़ लगभग हमेशा ही लगी रहती है।

If we observe carefully, almost all our ancient scriptures have greatly praised Mercury placed in the house of fortune (ninth house). Acharya Varahamihira states that if Mercury is in the ninth house, it gives good results regarding children and wealth. Similarly, Acharya Vashishta says that Mercury here makes a person especially interested in religious activities. My own view is that such a person may not always be deeply religious or highly spiritual. The reason is that according to the Kalpurush chart, Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter (the significator of religion), falls in the ninth house, and Mercury is an enemy of Jupiter. Therefore, profound depth in religion may not be present. However, the person does show worldly interest in religious matters. I would not call this hypocrisy, but there may be some deficiency in deep inner spiritual faith.

In the Brihat Yavana Jataka, it is mentioned that if Mercury is in this house, the person’s mother may die in the 29th year. This idea does not seem correct because the ninth house has no special connection with the mother. Also, Mercury has no specific relation with the 29th year; its full influence generally manifests around the 34th or 35th year of life. The same text further mentions that fortune rises in the 32nd year. However, according to Lal Kitab, the 32nd year actually falls under the influence of Mars, since Mars influences life from age 28 to 33. Therefore, progress due to Mercury here is more likely around the 34th or 35th year, not the 32nd.

Ancient authors have said that if Mercury here is associated with malefic planets, the person may go astray, meaning he may follow wrong paths. However, if Mercury is joined with or aspected by benefic planets, this is not likely. But if Mercury is conjunct Mars, such a possibility exists. According to astrologer Katwe, Mercury represents association and company — it signifies the people we come into contact with. When Mercury and Mars are together, especially before the age of 35, the person may at times fall into bad company, waste time, and lose valuable opportunities, reducing the chances of success. Mercury combined only with Mars can sometimes lead a person toward the wrong path; such effects are rarely seen due to the aspect of other planets.

Some modern astrologers believe that Mercury here can make a person highly proficient in linguistics. The person may also have strong research abilities. Because of the ability to view things from new perspectives, creative potential increases. However, if Mercury is connected with Mars and Ketu, the person may wander for a long time like a restless mind and may not be able to shape ideas properly, resulting in reduced success.

For Gemini ascendants, it is also said that Mercury in the ninth house brings rise in fortune after marriage and greater stability compared to earlier life. Careers such as newspaper editor, publishing, writing, school or college teaching give good results. In essence, continuous learning becomes part of such a person’s nature. In modern times, success can also come through computer-related work.

In Lal Kitab, Mercury in this house is described as either a “leper” or a “king.” Many people find this difficult to interpret. Mercury behaves negatively like a “leper” when the lord of the ninth house also sits in the ninth house — for Gemini ascendant, if Saturn sits with Mercury there. According to the Kalpurush chart, if Jupiter occupies the ninth house with Mercury, Mercury gives negative results like a “leper.” However, this does not mean Mercury always gives bad results with other planets. Though the person may struggle to earn income, he still supports his family and relatives.

Another rule states that if there is any planet in the eleventh house, Mercury gives good results. If the eleventh house is empty, Lal Kitab describes such Mercury as “irrational and shameless,” resulting in poor outcomes. Sometimes this may lead to defamation or accusations at some stage of life. If Mercury is placed here and the person wears or keeps a talisman given by a saint, Mercury’s negative effects may begin and entangle the person in complications.

If Mercury in this house begins to give bad effects, keeping a round iron object painted red can reduce its negative influence. Nose piercing is also considered a remedy. In some cases, if Mercury adversely affects intellect, sister, aunt, or daughter, placing mushrooms in an earthen pot and donating it at a religious place can reduce the bad effects and improve work matters.

If Mercury is with Jupiter in the ninth house, it truly acts negatively like a “leper,” affecting the father’s prosperity and condition.

Mercury with Sun here gives good results. Together, they positively influence career and education. The 24th and 34th years of life often bring happiness or progress.

Mercury with Moon here also gives good results. In a female horoscope, the girl shares special affection with her mother and receives strong support from her.
