मिथुन लग्न की कुंडली होने से आठवें घर में बुध शनि की मकर राशि में आकर बैठता है, जिसके प्रभाव से व्यक्ति की आयु के लिए कोई अशुभ फल नहीं होता। लेकिन, स्वास्थ्य के मामले में इसका फल अच्छा नहीं रहता। ढलती उम्र के बाद कई प्रकार के रोग पैदा होने की संभावना रहती है। कई बार देखने में आया है कि ऐसा व्यक्ति अपने जन्म-स्थान से हटकर किसी दूसरी जगह जाकर रहता है। यहाँ से बुध सातवीं दृष्टि से दूसरे घर को अर्थात् धन स्थान को देखता है जिस कारण धन बहुत प्रयत्न के बाद प्राप्त होता है और ऐसे व्यक्ति के जीवन में परेशानियाँ आती ही रहती हैं महऋषि पाराशर ने कहा है कि यहाँ पर बुध होने से उस व्यक्ति के बंधु नहीं होते और उसे कारावास में जाना पड़ता है। मेरे विचार से यहाँ कारावास के शब्दों को सही संदर्भ में समझना बहुत जरूरी है। बुध वाणी का कारक है। संस्थाओं के बहुत से कार्य भी बुध के प्रभाव में आते हैं, जहाँ लोगों का संपर्क एक-दूसरे से ज्यादा होता है। मोटे तौर पर बुध के प्रभाव वाला व्यक्ति बहुत बातें करने का आदी होता है। वह हमेशा दोस्तों-मित्रों, परिचितों में घिरा रहना चाहता है यानी पूरे तौर पर वह एक सामाजिक प्राणी होता है। लेकिन बुध आठवें घर में होने से वह व्यक्ति को इस गहमागहमी से वंचित रखता है, और यह मानसिक अकेलापन उसे इस तरह का तीखा अहसास दिलाता है जिस तरह आम आदमी कारावास में अकेला रहने से महसूस करता है। बहुत से ग्रंथाकारों ने यहाँ बुध को गुणी तथा ज्ञानी कहा है। आचार्य वशिष्ठ, आचार्य वराहमिहिर तथा गुणाकर के अनुसार यहाँ बैठा बुध व्यक्ति को अपने गुणों के कारण प्रसिद्ध बनाता है। इसी तरह से हमारे दूसरे ग्रंथ 'सारावली' में कल्याण वर्मा लिखते हैं कि ऐसा व्यक्ति कीर्तिवान, दीर्घायु अच्छे कुल वाला, राजा तथा सेनापति के समान प्रभावी होता है। शायद यह बात किसी दूसरे लग्न के बारे में लागू होती हो, किंतु मिथुन लग्न वालों पर ये बात पूरी तरह से लागू नहीं होती। इसमें एक और बात को समझना जरूरी है। इसके लिए हमें बुध की मिथिहासिक कहानी को समझना चाहिए। बृहस्पति की पत्नी तारा और चंद्रमा की मुहब्बत ने उनके रिश्ते को रहस्यमयी बना दिया था और इस रिश्ते से बुध ग्रह का जन्म हुआ था। यह बच्चा, यानी बुध बहुत खूबसूरत था, इसकी आँखों में ज्ञान की झलक थी; इसलिए बृहस्पति और चंद्रमा दोनों ने इसे अपना पुत्र स्वीकार कर लिया। इस तरह बुध का ज्ञानवान होना सही तो है पर आठवें घर में आकर यह बुध ज्ञान की जगह गुप्त विद्या का कारक ज्यादा हो जाता है। यहाँ पर बुध ज्ञान का कारक तो जरूर है पर इस ज्ञान का संबंध गुप्त विद्याओं या विधियों के साथ जुड़ा रहता है जैसे जादू-टोना, काला जादू आदि। खास तरह की तांत्रिक साधना भी इस बुध के प्रभाव से व्यक्ति में तांत्रिक बनने की इच्छा पैदा करती है। इसलिए वाणी का कारक बुध आठवें घर में वाणी का गलत इस्तेमाल करता है। उसकी जुबान पर ज्ञान की देवी सरस्वती नहीं बैठती। कई बार उस पर झूठ की धूल जम जाने का भी डर रहता है।

अठारहवीं शताब्दी के एक प्रसिद्ध ज्योतिषी श्री काशीनाथ ने अपने 'लग्न चंद्रिका' नामक ग्रंथ में इस बुध की व्याख्या करते हुए लिखा है, कि यहाँ बैठा हुआ बुध व्यक्ति को व्यभिचारी और झूठ बोलने वाला बनाता है। बुध के बारे में यह विचार दूसरे ग्रंथकारों के विचारों के मुकाबले में थोड़ा सा गलत ही लगता है। लेकिन लाल किताब के विचार, काशीनाथ के विचारों से काफी हद तक मिलते-जुलते हैं। यह बात ठीक है कि मिथुन लग्न वालों के लिए आठवें घर में बुध के मित्र शनि की राशि पड़ती है, जिसका बुरा असर नहीं होना चाहिए किंतु, काल-पुरुष कुंडली के अनुसार आठवें घर में मंगल की वृश्चिक राशि आती है। इसलिए यहाँ बुध मंगल के प्रभाव से बहुत दूषित हो जाता है। ज्योतिषी काटवे के अनुसार मंगल-बुध का एक साथ होना व्यक्ति की संगति अर्थात् उसके मित्र वर्ग की बहुत अच्छा न होने की संभावना भी रहती है। इसलिए ऐसा व्यक्ति कई बार गलत संगति के प्रभाव से गलत रास्ते पर जा सकता है और उसमें थोड़ा बहुत झूठ बोलने की आदत भी हो सकती है। इस संदर्भ में मैं अपने अनुभव से ये जिक्र करना जरूरी समझता हूँ, कि वकीलों की कुंडलियों में बुध का आठवें घर में होना या मंगल के साथ आठवें घर में होना उनकी सफलता के लिए अच्छा फल देता है। वकीलों के लिए शायद झूठ को भी सच बनाने की कला उनके पेशे के लिए अच्छा फल ही देगी। इस घर में बैठा हुआ बुध दूसरे घर को अर्थात् वाणी के घर को सातवीं दृष्टि से देखता है इसलिए केवल वकीलों के लिए ही इसका फल अच्छा हो सकता है। लेकिन, जीवन के दूसरे पक्ष के लिए यहाँ बैठा हुआ बुध आमतौर से अच्छा फल नहीं देता।

लाल किताब में आठवें घर के बुध की काफी निंदा की है। सन् 1942 की छपी लाल किताब में आठवें घर के बुध को मुर्दा या मुर्दे पर चढ़ा हुआ फूल कहकर पुकारा गया है। 1952 में छपी बड़ी लाल किताब में बुध को बीमारी, जहमत और लानत का कारक कहा है और साथ ही बुध को तबाही का फंदा, माली नुकसान करने वाला और कोढ़ी कहा गया है। 1942 की ही लाल किताब में आठवें घर के बुध को दीमक कहकर भी पुकारा है। एक सज्जन कई सालों से अपने बारे में मुझसे पूछने आते हैं। उनके आठवें घर में बुध, मंगल और केतु से बहुत दूषित था। पिछले साल उनके वर्ष फल में भी बुध आठवें घर में था जिसके फलस्वरूप हुआ यह कि दो लाख रुपये के नोट उन्होंने अपने घर में बिना किसी से जिक्र किए कहीं छुपा कर रखे हुए थे। कुछ महीनों के बाद जब उन्हें कुछ रुपयों की आवश्यकता पड़ी तो वह अपने छुपाये रुपए निकालने लगे तब देखते क्या हैं, कि वे सब रुपये दीमक लग्ने से मिट्टी हो गए थे।

जैसा कि मैंने अभी जिक्र किया था कि लाल किताब के अनुसार बुध एक फूल है, पर आठवें घर में मुर्दा फूल हो जाता है। सो इस हालत में कीर्ति की सुगंधि फैलने की जगह अफवाहों और तोहमतों की गंध फैल जाएगी। जिंदगी के किसी-न-किसी हिस्से में ऐसे इंसान पर सच्ची या झूठी तोहमत जरूर लगती है। यही बुध अब दूसरे घर में होता है तो कलम की नोक का कारक बन जाता है, जो कलम साहित्य-सृजन का साधन बनती है। पर आठवें घर में बुध मुरझाया हुआ फूल बन जाता है और साहित्यिक या किसी तरह की सृजना की कीर्ति, उस व्यक्ति की मौत के बाद फैलती है।

बुध बुआ, बहन और लड़की का कारक भी होता है, बहुत बड़ा कारक। हमारे अब तक के सारे ज्योतिष ग्रंथों में कारकों को सिर्फ बयान किया गया है, पर हर कारक वस्तु में उस ग्रह का किंतना अंश होगा, इस बात पर जोर नहीं दिया गया। कारकों को ठीक तरह से समझने के लिए यह जानना जरूरी है कि खून के रिश्तेदारों पर उस ग्रह का सौ फीसदी प्रभाव होता है। पशु-पक्षियों में पचास फीसदी, पेड़-पौधों में पच्चीस फीसदी और बिल्कुल बेजान वस्तुओं में, पत्थर-मिट्टी में दस फीसदी होता है। कहने का मतलब है कि यह आठवें घर का बुध बुआ, बहन और लड़की में से किसी एक पर जरूर बुरा प्रभाव डालेगा। यह सौ फीसदी प्रभाव की मिसाल है।

पक्षियों में बुध का कारक तोता है। सो आठवें घर के बुध वाला अगर घर में तोता पाल ले तो उसका बुरा प्रभाव पड़ेगा। तोता रखने से उसने आठवें घर के बुध को और तगड़ा कर दिया। पेड़ों में बुध का कारक केले का पेड़ है। सो घर में केले का पेड़ लगाना बुरा प्रभाव देगा। यह प्रभाव पच्चीस फीसदी होगा। इसी तरह बेजान वस्तुओं में से बुध का कारक पन्ना है। सो उसे पहनने से दस फीसदी बुरा प्रभाव होगा।

आठवें घर के बुध के बुरे प्रभाव को दूर करने के लिए उपाय के तौर पर किसी हिजड़े को सफेद रंग की कमीज और काली जुराबें देनी चाहिए। इसका तर्क यह है कि आठवें घर के कमजोर बुध को सहारा देने के लिए उसके मित्रों की मदद चाहिए। हिजड़ा बुध का कारक है। सफेद कमीज शुक्र की कारक है और काली जुराबें शनि की कारक। यह दोनों ग्रह शुक्र और शनि, बुध के मित्र हैं।

इस घर में बुध के साथ बृहस्पति का होना व्यक्ति को कोई-न-कोई परेशानी लगाए रखता है। स्वास्थ्य के लिए भी इसका प्रभाव अच्छा नहीं पड़ता। कई बार उस व्यक्ति के पिता या ससुर को साँस की बीमारी होने की संभावना भी रहती है। लेकिन यदि दूसरे घर में कोई ग्रह न हो, तो बुध का प्रभाव इतना बुरा नहीं होता।

इस घर में बुध के साथ सूरज होने से सरकारी काम करने वालों को कई अड़चनें आती हैं। बेटी, बहन या बुआ पर भी इसका असर किसी-न-किसी रूप में अशुभ ही रहता है।

अष्टम स्थान में बुध के साथ चंद्र होने पर आदमी के दिमाग में बेबुनियादी वहम लिप्त रहता है। कई दफा दूसरों की मुसीबत भी उसके गले पड़ी रहती है। आठवें घर में बुध के साथ शुक्र होने से आदमी के गृहस्थ सुख या औलाद के सुख में काफी हद तक कमी आ जाती है। लाल किताब में इन दोनों ग्रहों के अष्टम स्थान में होने को कहा है 'रब्ब बनाई ऐसी जोड़ी, एक अंधा तो दूसरा कोढ़ी।' यानी शुक्र और बुध दोनों का ही फल अच्छा नहीं रह पाता।

यहाँ पर बुध के साथ मंगल होने से व्यक्ति कभी-न-कभी बुरी संगति में जरूर पड़ता है। ननिहाल घर पर भी इसका प्रभाव किसी-न-किसी रूप में अशुभ होता है। ऐसा व्यक्ति यदि अपने ननिहाल घर में रहे, तो वह अपने जीवन में उन्नति प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता और जीवन में ठीक ढंग से स्थिरता भी नहीं आती। इसलिए ननिहाल घर से दूर रहना ही उसके लिए अच्छा है।

यहाँ पर बुध के साथ शनि का होना अच्छा फल देता है। मिथुन लग्न वालों के लिए आठवें घर में बुध के मित्र शनि की राशि ही आती है। इसलिए यहाँ शक्तिशाली शनि अपने मित्र बुध की सहायता ही करता है। जायदाद के लिए भी इसका अच्छा प्रभाव पड़ता है।

यहाँ पर बुध के साथ राहु होने से व्यक्ति अपने जीवन में बहुत बार मुश्किलों से गुजरता है। लेकिन, ऐसा व्यक्ति जिन दोस्तों या रिश्तेदारों के संपर्क में रहता है उन पर इसका प्रभाव अच्छा पड़ता है।

आठवें घर में बुध के साथ केतु का होना व्यक्ति के जीवन को किसी-न-किसी चक्कर में डाले रखता है। आर्थिक तौर पर किसी भी प्राप्ति के लिए उसे दूसरों के मुकाबले में बहुत ज्यादा मेहनत करनी पड़ती है। ऐसे व्यक्ति को अपनी औलाद के बारे में भी कई प्रकार की चिंताएँ उत्पन्न होती हैं।

Many classical texts describe Mercury here as virtuous and knowledgeable. According to Acharya Vashishtha, Acharya Varahamihira, and Gunakar, Mercury in this position can bring fame due to the person’s virtues. Similarly, in another classical text ‘Saravali,’ Kalyan Verma writes that such a person may be renowned, long-lived, of good lineage, and influential like a king or a commander. However, these statements may apply to other ascendants; they are not fully applicable to Gemini ascendants.

To understand this fully, one must consider Mercury’s mythological story. Jupiter’s wife Tara and the Moon’s love made their relationship mysterious, from which Mercury was born. This child, Mercury, was very beautiful, with eyes that reflected wisdom. Both Jupiter and the Moon accepted Mercury as their son. Therefore, Mercury is naturally intelligent, but when positioned in the eighth house, he becomes more a significator of hidden knowledge rather than open learning. Mercury’s knowledge in this house often relates to secret arts, mystical practices, or occult sciences like black magic. This position can also induce an interest in tantric practices. Consequently, Mercury, the significator of speech, may misuse words in this house. His speech may not be guided by Goddess Saraswati (the goddess of knowledge), and sometimes there is a risk of falsehoods accumulating in his speech.

In the 18th century, the famous astrologer Shri Kashinath, in his book ‘Lagna Chandrika,’ described Mercury in this house as making a person adulterous and deceitful. These views differ slightly from other classical authors but largely align with the Lal Kitab’s perspective. For Gemini ascendants, Mercury’s eighth-house placement in Saturn’s friendly sign should not have a bad effect, yet according to the Kal-Purusha Kundali, Mars occupies Scorpio in the eighth house, which contaminates Mercury. Astrologer Katve mentions that Mercury and Mars together in this position may negatively affect a person’s social circle, sometimes leading them astray and fostering a tendency to lie.

From my experience, Mercury in the eighth house, or along with Mars, is favorable for lawyers. For them, the ability to turn falsehoods into truth can be beneficial professionally. Mercury in this house looks at the second house (speech) from the seventh aspect, so only for lawyers does it give good results. Otherwise, this Mercury is generally unfavorable in life. The Lal Kitab strongly criticizes Mercury in the eighth house. In the 1942 edition, Mercury is called a “dead flower” (a flower on a corpse). In the 1952 edition, Mercury is described as a cause of disease, trouble, and curse, as well as destruction, loss caused by a gardener, and leprosy. In 1942, Mercury in the eighth house is also called a “termite.”

I have had a gentleman consulting me whose Mercury, Mars, and Ketu in the eighth house were highly afflicted. Last year, during his yearly period, Mercury was again in the eighth house. As a result, 200,000 rupees he had hidden in his house gradually got destroyed by termites. As mentioned earlier, Lal Kitab says Mercury is a flower, but in the eighth house it becomes a dead flower. Instead of spreading the fragrance of fame, it spreads rumors and accusations. At some point in life, such a person inevitably faces true or false allegations.

When Mercury moves to the second house, it becomes the significator of the pen, enabling literary and creative pursuits, but in the eighth house, it is a withered flower, and fame from creative work emerges only after death. Mercury also signifies paternal aunts, sisters, and daughters. Classical texts describe planetary significators without specifying the degree of influence. For relatives by blood, Mercury exerts 100% influence; for animals and birds, 50%; for trees, 25%; and for inanimate objects like stones or soil, 10%. Therefore, Mercury in the eighth house negatively affects one of the aunts, sisters, or daughters. For birds, Mercury signifies parrots; having a parrot in the house strengthens Mercury’s malefic effect. In trees, Mercury signifies the banana tree, so planting one at home is harmful (25% effect). Inanimate objects like emeralds carry a 10% effect.

To reduce Mercury’s malefic effects in the eighth house, Lal Kitab recommends giving a hijra (transgender person) a white shirt and black socks. The rationale is that Mercury requires support from friends; hijras represent Mercury, white clothing represents Venus, and black socks represent Saturn — all friends of Mercury. When Mercury is with Jupiter in this house, the person faces difficulties. Health may be adversely affected, sometimes even affecting the father or father-in-law’s respiratory system. If the Sun is with Mercury here, government officials face obstacles. Daughters, sisters, or aunts are also affected adversely. Mercury with the Moon brings baseless worries and mental stress; often the misfortunes of others fall on the person. Mercury with Venus here reduces domestic happiness and satisfaction from children. Lal Kitab says of Mercury with Venus: “A pair made by God — one blind, the other leprous,” meaning neither planet gives good results. Mercury with Mars may lead to bad company. Mercury also adversely affects the maternal home; if the person stays there, progress and stability in life are unlikely. Mercury with Saturn, a friendly planet in Gemini ascendants’ eighth house, gives good results, including benefits in property matters. Mercury with Rahu brings repeated difficulties, but contact with friends or relatives can be beneficial. Mercury with Ketu keeps the person involved in cycles of difficulty, and financial gains require more effort compared to others. Such a person may also have many concerns regarding their children.
