Astrologer Bhagyaraj Gupta wishes everyone a very happy and blessed Shardiya Navratri.

Navratri, which literally means 'nine nights,' is one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga, the divine mother who represents the cosmic power of creation, preservation, and destruction. The festival is celebrated mainly twice a year: Chaitra Navratri, which marks the beginning of spring, and Sharad Navratri, which signals the arrival of autumn. Sharad Navratri holds special significance as it is linked to the story of Mother Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. The festival culminates on the tenth day as Vijayadashami, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. These nine days are a time for spiritual practice, fasting, and worshipping the nine forms of the Goddess.

• Auspicious Timings for Sharad Navratri 2025**

• According to Astrologer Bhagyaraj Gupt, the auspicious timings for Sharad Navratri are as follows:

• The holy festival of Sharad Navratri will begin on **Monday, September 22, 2025. This year, the festival will last for ten days instead of nine, which is considered highly auspicious as it is believed to be very fruitful. The Chaturthi Tithi (fourth day) will last for two days, September 25 and 26, extending the festival's duration.
•  As per the Panchang (Hindu calendar), the auspicious time for Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana) will start late on September 22 at 1:26 a.m. and will last until 2:57 a.m. on September 23.
• Morning Muhurat:** 6:15 a.m. to 7:46 a.m.
•     Abhijit Muhurat:** 11:55 a.m. to 12:43 p.m.

The festival will conclude on **October 2** with Vijayadashami, which is traditionally celebrated with the burning of an effigy of Ravana.

Significance of the Devi's Mount

Astrologer Bhagyaraj Gupta explains that the Devi’s mount for arrival and departure depends on the day of the week on which Navratri begins. Since Sharad Navratri starts on a **Monday, September 22,** this year, Maa Durga will arrive on a Gaj (elephant). Arriving on an elephant is considered an extremely auspicious sign, symbolizing prosperity, happiness, and good fortune throughout the year. Her departure, however, will be on a human, which holds a different symbolic meaning.

The Origin of Navratri

The mythological basis of Navratri is rooted in the story of Maha Shakti Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura. According to the ancient tale, Mahishasura was an extremely powerful demon born from the union of a sage and a buffalo. Through severe penance, he received a boon from Brahma that no god or man could kill him; his death was possible only at the hands of a woman. Arrogant from this boon, Mahishasura began terrorizing the three worlds. He attacked Swarga (heaven) and defeated the gods, including Lord Vishnu and Shiva.

Dejected by their defeat, all the gods went to Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh for help. Combining their collective energies, these deities created a new, supreme feminine power, who was named Durga. In this process, each god gave Devi their specific weapon. Shiva gave his trishul (trident), Vishnu gave his chakra (discus), Varuna gave his conch shell, and other gods also provided their divine weapons. Himavan gifted her the lion as her mount. This symbolically shows that Goddess Durga is not a separate power but the unified and ultimate form of all divine powers.

Following this, Goddess Durga challenged Mahishasura's demons to battle with her fierce roar. During the nine-day long, intense war, Mahishasura tried to deceive the Goddess by taking on various magical forms, sometimes appearing as a cruel lion and at other times as a giant elephant. Finally, on the ninth day, Devi beheaded Mahishasura with her chakra, leading to the victory of righteousness and the re-establishment of cosmic order.

The Nine Forms of the Goddess

The nine goddesses worshipped during Navratri are not different deities but nine distinct forms of the one great Shakti. These nine forms represent various spiritual stages and qualities of human consciousness, leading us from ignorance towards liberation.

According to astrologer Bhagyaraj Gupta, he also specified which chapter of Durga Saptashati should be recited on which day:

• First Day: One recital - Chapter 1.
• Second Day: Two recitals - Chapters 2 and 3.
• Third Day: One recital - Chapter 4.
• Fourth Day: Four recitals - Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8.
• Fifth Day: Two recitals - Chapters 9 and 10.
• Sixth Day: One recital - Chapter 11.
• Seventh Day: Two recitals - Chapters 12 and 13.

By reciting in this manner, one full cycle of Durga Saptashati is completed. On the eighth day, a havan (fire ritual) should be performed, and on the ninth day, a Purnahuti (final offering) should be done.

Shailputri (Day 1):The daughter of the Himalayas, she is the symbol of divinity at the peak of any experience. She brings stability and prosperity to life.

Brahmacharini (Day 2): This form represents deep penance and pure, untouched energy. Worshipping her automatically grants the devotee Siddhis (spiritual powers).

Chandraghanta (Day 3): This form symbolizes mind-enchanting beauty. She is the source of the beauty present in all beings.

Kushmanda (Day 4): She is considered the bundle of life energy that extends from the subtlest realms to the vastest cosmos. She is formless yet gives birth to all forms.

*Skandamata (Day 5):She is the protector of the entire universe and the mother of all knowledge systems.

Katyayani (Day 6): She represents the energy that emerges from the observing aspect of consciousness, bringing the power of intuition. She is also called the power of the mind. Rukmini worshipped her to get Lord Krishna as her husband.

*Kaalratri (Day 7):She is the symbol of deep, dark energy that holds infinite universes. She provides solace and peace to every soul.

*Mahagauri (Day 8):She is the symbol of beauty, grace, and power, which leads to ultimate freedom and liberation. Worshipping her brings freedom from all sins.

Siddhidatri (Day 9):She is the final form who makes the impossible possible and grants devotees the fruit of their efforts. Worshipping her manifests miracles in life.

According to astrologer Bhagyaraj Gupta, you can strengthen any one of your planets by reciting a specific chapter of the Durga Saptashati, as each chapter has its own special quality. Here’s how:
