आज मैं तुम्हें समाधि और मृत्यु के बीच का स्पष्ट अंतर कम शब्दों में बता देता हूँ—ध्यान से समझने का प्रयास करना।
साधारण दृष्टि में श्वास केवल हवा का आना-जाना है, लेकिन योग और अध्यात्म में श्वास ही ‘प्राण’ का वाहन है। इस आवागमन के रुकने के दो अलग-अलग अर्थ होते हैं, जो मनुष्य की नियति को पूरी तरह बदल देते हैं।
1. मृत्यु: जब द्वार बंद हो जाए
जब शरीर की शक्ति क्षीण हो जाती है और श्वास बाहर की ओर प्रवाहित होकर पुनः भीतर की ओर नहीं लौट पाती, तो उसे मृत्यु कहा जाता है।
यह एक अनिवार्य घटना है, जो प्रकृति के नियम के अधीन है।
यहाँ जीव विवश होता है; शरीर थक चुका होता है और प्राण इस पुराने घर को छोड़कर बाहर निकल जाते हैं।
यह ‘छूट जाना’ है, जहाँ चेतना का भौतिक शरीर से संबंध पूरी तरह टूट जाता है।
2. समाधि: जब गति विश्राम बन जाए
इसके विपरीत, जब वही श्वास बाहर जाने के बजाय भीतर ही ठहर जाए और अपने केंद्र पर पूर्ण विश्राम पा ले, तो वह समाधि है।
यह विवशता नहीं, बल्कि पूर्णतः स्वैच्छिक और सजग अवस्था होती है।
समाधि में श्वास का रुकना मृत्यु नहीं, बल्कि ‘कुम्भक’ की वह पराकाष्ठा है जहाँ मन पूर्ण रूप से शांत हो जाता है।
यहाँ प्राण बाहर नहीं भटकते, बल्कि आत्मा के महासागर में विलीन हो जाते हैं। इसे ही ‘जीवित रहते हुए भी मुक्त हो जाना’ कहा जाता है।
स्थिति | श्वास की दिशा | अवस्था | परिणाम
मृत्यु → बाहर की ओर (बहिर्मुखी) → विवशता और अंत → पुनर्जन्म का चक्र और आवागमन
समाधि → भीतर की ओर (अंतर्मुखी) → परम शांति और ठहराव → समस्त चक्रों से सदा-सदा के लिए मुक्ति
सार:
मृत्यु शरीर का अंत है, जबकि समाधि अहंकार का अंत है। मृत्यु में हम ‘छीन’ लिए जाते हैं, लेकिन समाधि में हम ‘स्वयं को पा’ लेते हैं। जब श्वास बाहर निकलकर वापस नहीं लौटती तो शरीर शांत हो जाता है, लेकिन जब श्वास भीतर ही ठहर जाती है तो पूरा संसार शांत हो जाता है।

In an ordinary view, breathing is just the movement of air in and out. But in yoga and spirituality, breath is the vehicle of prana (life force). When this movement stops, it can have two very different meanings, completely changing a person’s destiny.
1. Death: When the door closes
When the body becomes weak and the breath flows outward but does not return inward, it is called death.
It is an inevitable event governed by the laws of nature.
Here, the individual is helpless; the body is exhausted, and the life force leaves this old “home.”
It is a “separation,” where consciousness disconnects from the physical body.
2. Samadhi: When movement becomes stillness
In contrast, when the same breath, instead of moving outward, settles within and comes to complete rest at its center, it is called Samadhi.
This is not helplessness, but a voluntary and aware state.
In Samadhi, the stopping of breath is not death, but the highest state of kumbhaka, where the mind becomes completely still.
Here, the life force does not wander outward but merges into the ocean of the soul. This is called being liberated while still alive.
Summary:
Death is the end of the body, while Samadhi is the end of the ego. In death, something is taken away from us, but in Samadhi, we realize our true self. When breath goes out and does not return, the body becomes still—but when breath settles within, the entire world becomes still.
