कर्म, अहंकार और छिपकली का जन्म | From Ego to Rebirth: The Truth of Karma

एक संत थे, वे भगवत भाव में रहते हुए व भक्ति प्रसाद बांटते हुए गाँव गाँव शहर शहर भ्रमण करते रहते थे । कभी सुबह किसी गाँव तो शाम कहीं और।
कहीं जहाँ वो रुक जाते थे वो भगवत कथा प्रसंग आदि भी कहते थे तथा लोग उनके अमृत वचनो से अपना जीवन धन्य करते थे। एक बार वो एक गाँव में ऐसे ही भगवत कथा-सत्संग कर रहे थे कि दीवार को देखके अचानक ही रोने लगे। लोग कुछ समझ नहीं पाये।
यजमान बहुत धार्मिक थे और संत के प्रति सच्चा आदर भाव रखते थे वे जानते थे कि इन्हे किसी बात का कोई लोभ नहीं है और ये तो सदा ही प्रसन्नचित्त रहते हैं फिर सहसा ही रोये क्यों।
उचित समय देखकर उन्होंने संत से पूछा तो संत कहने लगे कुछ नहीं मित्र कि याद आ गयी थी,मित्र दिख गया था? यजमान और अचरज में पड़े तो संत बताने लगे। वो जो दीवार पर एक छिपकली थी, वो पूर्व जन्म में मेरा मित्र था ।
हम दोनों एक गाँव में थे बचपन में साथ पढ़ते थे।
परन्तु बड़े हुए तो मेरा मन तो अध्यात्म की तरफ होने लगा परन्तु मेरे इस मित्र को सांसारिक सुखों में ही सार समझ में आता था। उस जनम में मेरा ये मित्र बहुत ही महत्वाकांक्षी और हर तरफ अपने नाम का बोलबाला देखना चाहता था।
इसके लिए इसने भगवान के मार्ग को ही सुगम साधन माना । मेरा ये मित्र भगवान की कथा आदि की आड़ में मात्र अनुयायी ही बनाता चला गया तथा बिलकुल भी आध्यात्मिक नहीं था।
वो अध्यात्म की आड़ में हर प्रकार का नशा भी करता था और दुश्चरित्र भी हो गया था। उसके पास इतना धन हो गया था की वो किसी को कुछ नहीं समझता था और साधु संत की निंदा प्रताड़ना करने लगा था।
एक बार मैं इसके पास गया और इसे समझाया कि मित्र जीवन बहुत छोटा है इसमें प्रभु भक्ति को स्थान दो, ज्ञान प्राप्त करो और प्रभु के नाम पर ठगी तो बिलकुल मत करो। परन्तु इसने कुछ भी नहीं सुना उल्टा बहुत अपमान किया मेरा। मैं फिर भी इसे बार बार बताता रहा चेताता रहा परन्तु इसने कुछ नहीं सुना। अधिकतर ही ये मद्धपान किये रहता था और वेश्यागामी भी हो गया था। धीरे धीरे इसके अनुयायी भी इसी कि तरह होते चले गए।
परन्तु कर्मों का परिणाम व्यक्ति को भुगतना ही पड़ता है अतः इस जनम में छिपकली बन गया।
कारण की इसका स्वभाव में ही कृपणता थी, लोभ की प्यास थी।
अहम को हमेशा मन से चिपकाए रखने के कारण भगवान ने इसे छिपकली का जन्म दिया जो दीवार से ही चिपकी रहती है।
भगवत कृपा से इस जन्म में इसे अपने पूर्व जन्म ज्ञात था ताकि ये इस जीवन में एकांत में रहकर भगवत भजन करते हुए प्रभु को प्राप्त करे।
इसने कथा के दौरान मुझसे आग्रह किया की मैं यहाँ कुछ दिन और रुकूँ और कथा करता रहूँ क्यूंकि वो जल्दी ही अपनी यह छिपकली की देह छोड़ने जा रहा है।
मैं इसके इस आग्रह पर करुणावश रोने लगा साथ ही मुझे प्रभु की करुणा भी प्रतीत हुई।
भगवान इतने दयालु हैं कि अपने प्रति किये गए अपराधों को भी भुला कर सभी का उत्थान करते हैं।
अतः व्यक्ति को चाहिए कि वो अपने जीवन को क्षणभंगुर जाने व जीवन के प्रत्येक पल को बहुत सावधानीपूर्वक उपयोग में लाये और भगवान के उन्मुख हो ऐसा कर्म करे।
व्यक्ति को या सदा ही स्मरण रखना चाहिये कि कर्म ही नहीं विचार का भी फल व्यक्ति को भोगना पड़ता है अतः अपने विचारों में भी परमात्मा का समावेश रखे।🕉

There was a saint who lived absorbed in devotion to God. While distributing consecrated food (prasad) and sharing divine love, he used to travel continuously from village to village and city to city. Sometimes he would be in one village in the morning and in another place by evening.
Wherever he stayed, he would narrate episodes from the divine scriptures and discourses on God. People felt their lives blessed by listening to his nectar-like words. Once, while he was conducting such a religious discourse in a village, he suddenly looked at a wall and began to cry. No one could understand why.
The host of the gathering was very religious and held deep respect for the saint. He knew that the saint had no greed for anything and was always cheerful, so he wondered why the saint suddenly started crying.
At an appropriate moment, the host asked the saint about it. The saint replied, “Nothing, my friend… a memory returned. I saw an old friend.”
The host was even more astonished, so the saint explained: “The lizard you see on that wall was my friend in a previous birth.
We lived in the same village and studied together in childhood. As we grew up, my mind turned toward spirituality, but my friend found meaning only in worldly pleasures. In that life, he was extremely ambitious and wanted his name and fame to be celebrated everywhere.
For this, he considered the path of God merely a convenient means. Under the guise of religious storytelling, he kept gathering followers, but he was not spiritual at all. Using spirituality as a cover, he indulged in every kind of intoxication and became immoral. He accumulated so much wealth that he respected no one and began to criticize and harass saints and sages.
Once I went to him and tried to explain: ‘Friend, life is very short. Give place to devotion to God, gain true knowledge, and do not cheat people in God’s name.’ But he did not listen at all; instead, he insulted me greatly. Still, I kept advising and warning him again and again, but he paid no heed. Most of the time he was drunk and had become addicted to immoral pleasures. Gradually, his followers also became just like him.
But one must inevitably face the consequences of one’s actions. Therefore, in this birth, he has become a lizard.
The reason was his inherent miserliness and unquenchable greed. Because he constantly clung to ego in his mind, God gave him the birth of a lizard—one that clings to walls.
By God’s grace, in this birth he has awareness of his previous life, so that he may live in solitude, sing God’s praises, and ultimately attain the Lord. During the discourse, he requested me to stay here for a few more days and continue the narration, because he is soon going to leave this lizard’s body.
Moved by compassion at his request, I began to cry, and at the same time I felt the Lord’s mercy. God is so compassionate that He forgets even the offenses committed against Him and works for the upliftment of all.
Therefore, a person should understand life to be momentary and use every moment of life very carefully, performing actions that turn one toward God.
One should always remember that not only actions, but even thoughts bear consequences. Hence, one should include the Supreme Being in one’s thoughts as well. 🕉
