हिंदू धर्म में सप्तर्षि (सप्त ऋषि) सात महान ऋषियों को कहा जाता है, जो वेदों के द्रष्टा, ज्ञान के संरक्षक और ब्रह्मांड के मार्गदर्शक माने जाते हैं। ये ब्रह्मा जी के मानस पुत्र हैं और हर मन्वंतर (एक cosmic युग) में बदलते रहते हैं। हम वर्तमान में वैवस्वत मन्वंतर (सातवाँ मन्वंतर) में हैं, जिसमें सप्तर्षियों के
नाम निम्नलिखित हैं:-
कश्यप:-
सृष्टि के विस्तार में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका। देवता, दानव, नाग आदि उनके वंशज माने जाते हैं। वे मरीचि के पुत्र और कई पत्नियों (जैसे अदिति, दिति) से जुड़े हैं।
अत्रि: -
अनुसूया के पति। चंद्रमा, दत्तात्रेय और दुर्वासा उनके पुत्र हैं। वे वैदिक मंत्रों के प्रमुख द्रष्टा हैं।
वशिष्ठ :-
रामायण में दशरथ के कुलगुरु। अरुंधति उनके पत्नी हैं। कामधेनु गाय के स्वामी और योग वशिष्ठ ग्रंथ के रचयिता।
विश्वामित्र :-
पहले राजा थे, तपस्या से ब्रह्मर्षि बने। गायत्री मंत्र के द्रष्टा। राम को अस्त्र-शस्त्र दिए।

गौतम :-
अहल्या के पति। गोदावरी नदी के उद्गम से जुड़े। वे क्रोध और क्षमा की कथाओं में प्रसिद्ध हैं।
जमदग्नि: -
परशुराम के पिता। क्षत्रियों का संहार करने वाले परशुराम उनके पुत्र हैं।
भारद्वाज: -
बृहस्पति के पुत्र। आयुर्वेद और धनुर्वेद में योगदान। द्रोणाचार्य उनके वंशज हैं।
ये ऋषि धर्म, ज्ञान और तपस्या के प्रतीक हैं। पुराणों (जैसे विष्णु पुराण, भागवत पुराण) और महाभारत में इनका वर्णन मिलता है।
सप्तर्षि मंडल
आकाश में सप्तर्षि मंडल उत्तरी गोलार्ध में दिखने वाला तारामंडल है, जो बिग डिपर (Ursa Major) कहलाता है। हिंदू मान्यता में ये सात तारे सप्तर्षियों का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं, और इनकी स्थिति से दिशा ज्ञान होता है (ध्रुव तारे की ओर इशारा करते हैं)।

Who are the Saptarishis?
In Hinduism, the Saptarishis (Seven Great Sages) are revered as seven exalted sages who are regarded as the seers of the Vedas, guardians of divine knowledge, and guides of the cosmos. They are considered the mind-born sons of Lord Brahma and change in every Manvantara (a cosmic age). We are currently living in the Vaivasvata Manvantara (the seventh Manvantara), in which the names of the Saptarishis are as follows:
Kashyapa:
He played a crucial role in the expansion of creation. Devas, Danavas, Nagas, and many other beings are considered his descendants. He was the son of Marichi and had several wives such as Aditi and Diti.
Atri:
Husband of Anasuya. His sons include Chandra (the Moon), Dattatreya, and Durvasa. He is one of the principal seers of Vedic mantras.
Vashishtha:
The family priest (Kulaguru) of King Dasharatha in the Ramayana. His wife is Arundhati. He was the owner of the divine cow Kamadhenu and the composer of the philosophical text Yoga Vashishtha.
Vishwamitra:
Originally a king, he attained the status of a Brahmarishi through intense penance. He is the seer of the Gayatri Mantra and was the mentor who bestowed divine weapons upon Lord Rama.

Gautama:
Husband of Ahalya. He is associated with the origin of the Godavari River and is well known in stories related to anger and forgiveness.
Jamadagni:
Father of Lord Parashurama. His son Parashurama is famed for annihilating corrupt Kshatriyas.
Bharadwaja:
Son of Brihaspati. He made significant contributions to Ayurveda and Dhanurveda (the science of warfare). Dronacharya was his descendant.
These sages are symbols of dharma, knowledge, and austerity, and their stories are found in the Puranas (such as the Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana) as well as the Mahabharata.
Saptarishi Mandala (The Constellation of the Seven Sages)
In the night sky, the Saptarishi Mandala is a prominent constellation visible in the Northern Hemisphere, known as the Big Dipper (Ursa Major). In Hindu belief, the seven stars represent the Saptarishis, and their alignment helps in determining directions, as they point toward the Pole Star (Dhruva Tara).
These celestial formations depict the Saptarishi Mandala, where the seven stars are imagined as the seven sages. The stars of Vashishtha and Arundhati appear close together, symbolizing the ideal bond of marital love and harmony.
