जब एक तोते की वफ़ादारी के आगे नतमस्तक हो गए देवराज इंद्र! ✨
महाभारत के शांति पर्व में भीष्म पितामह ने युधिष्ठिर को वफ़ादारी और कृतज्ञता की एक अद्भुत कथा सुनाई थी। यह कहानी है एक धर्मात्मा तोते और देवराज इंद्र के संवाद की।
📜 कथा सार:
एक बार एक शिकारी का जहरीला तीर निशाना चूक कर एक हरे-भरे, विशाल वृक्ष में जा लगा। जहर के प्रभाव से वह पेड़ धीरे-धीरे सूखने लगा। उस पेड़ पर रहने वाले सभी पक्षी, जो कल तक उसके फलों का आनंद लेते थे, उसे मरता देख एक-एक कर छोड़ गए।
लेकिन, उस पेड़ के कोटर में रहने वाला एक बूढ़ा, धर्मात्मा तोता वहीं डटा रहा। दाना-पानी के अभाव में वह भी पेड़ के साथ-साथ सूखकर कांटा होता जा रहा था, पर उसने अपना घर नहीं छोड़ा।
यह बात देवराज इंद्र तक पहुंची। एक मरते हुए वृक्ष के लिए अपने प्राण त्यागने वाले इस तोते को देखने वे स्वयं धरती पर आए।
🤔 इंद्र का प्रश्न:
इंद्र ने तोते से कहा, "अरे भाई! यह पेड़ अब सूख चुका है। न इस पर पत्ते हैं, न फल। इसके बचने की कोई उम्मीद नहीं है। जंगल में फलों से लदे अनेकों पेड़ हैं, सुंदर सरोवर हैं। तुम वहां क्यों नहीं चले जाते? यहां व्यर्थ प्राण क्यों दे रहे हो?"
🦜 तोते का मर्मस्पर्शी उत्तर:
तोते ने जो जवाब दिया, उसने देवराज को भी निरुत्तर कर दिया। वह बोला:
"देवराज! मैं इसी पेड़ पर जन्मा, इसी की गोद में पला-ब बढ़ा। इसके मीठे फल खाए और इसने मुझे अनेकों बार दुश्मनों से बचाया। जब इसके अच्छे दिन थे, मैंने इसके साथ सुख भोगे। आज जब इस पर बुरा वक्त आया है, तो मैं अपने स्वार्थ के लिए इसे कैसे त्याग दूं? जिसके साथ सुख भोगे, दुःख में उसका साथ छोड़ देना तो अधर्म है। आप देवता होकर भी मुझे ऐसी स्वार्थी सलाह क्यों दे रहे हैं?"
🌸 वरदान और सीख:

इंद्र ने अमृत वर्षा करके उस सूखे पेड़ को पुनर्जीवित कर दिया। पेड़ फिर से लहलहा उठा।

यह कथा हमें सिखाती है कि सच्चे रिश्ते वही होते हैं जो बुरे वक्त में परखे जाते हैं। जिसने हमारे अच्छे समय में साथ दिया हो, उसका हाथ बुरे समय में कभी नहीं छोड़ना चाहिए। जैसा कि भीष्म ने कहा- "किसी के सुख के साथी बनो न बनो, दुख के साथी जरूर बनो। यही सच्ची धर्मनीति है।"

When Devaraj Indra Bowed Before the Loyalty of a Parrot! ✨
In the Shanti Parva of the Mahabharata, Bhishma Pitamah narrated to Yudhishthira an extraordinary story of loyalty and gratitude. This is the story of a dialogue between a virtuous parrot and Devaraj Indra.
📜 Story Account:
Once, a hunter’s poisoned arrow missed its target and struck a large, lush green tree. Under the effect of the poison, the tree slowly began to dry up. All the birds living on that tree—who until yesterday enjoyed its fruits—left it one by one upon seeing it die.
However, an old, righteous parrot who lived in a hollow of that tree remained firmly there. Due to the lack of food and water, he too was drying up and becoming frail along with the tree, yet he did not abandon his home.
This matter reached Devaraj Indra. To see this parrot who was ready to give up his life for a dying tree, Indra himself came down to the earth.
🤔 Indra’s Question:
“O brother! This tree has now completely dried up. It has neither leaves nor fruits. There is no hope of its survival. The forest has many fruit-laden trees and beautiful lakes. Why don’t you go there? Why are you needlessly giving up your life here?”
🦜 The Parrot’s Heart-Piercing Reply:
The answer given by the parrot left even the king of the gods speechless. He said:
“Devaraj! I was born on this very tree and raised in its lap. I ate its sweet fruits, and many times it protected me from enemies. When its days were good, I shared happiness with it. Today, when it is facing hard times, how can I abandon it for my own selfish interests? To enjoy happiness together and then leave someone in sorrow is unrighteousness. Why are you, even after being a god, giving me such selfish advice?”
🌸 The Boon and the Lesson:
Seeing the parrot’s selfless devotion and sacrifice, Indra was pleased. He said, “Ask—what boon do you want?”

The parrot asked for nothing for himself. He said,
“Lord, please make my beloved sheltering tree green and flourishing again, just as it was before.”
Indra showered nectar upon the dried tree and revived it. The tree once again became lush and green.

This story teaches us that true relationships are those that are tested in difficult times. One should never abandon those who stood by us in our good days when they face bad times. As Bhishma said—
“Whether or not you become a companion in someone’s happiness, you must certainly become a companion in their sorrow. This is true righteous conduct.”
