येथे कारे उभा श्रीरामा । मनमोहन मेघश्यामा ॥
काय केली सीतामाई । येथे राही रखुमाई ॥
काय केली अयोध्यापुरी । येथे वसविली पंढरी ॥
काय केली शरयू गंगा । येथे आणिली चंद्रभागा ॥
धनुष्यबाण काय केले। कर कटावरी ठेविले ॥
काय केले वानरदल । येथे मिळविले गोपाळ ॥
रामीरामदासी भाव । तैसा होय पंढरिराव ॥
समर्थगुरु श्री रामदास स्वामी का जन्म औरंगाबाद जिले के जांब नामक स्थान पर हुआ। इनके बचपन का नाम नारायण था वे बहुत शरारती थे। गांव के लोग रोज उनकी शिकायत उनकी माता से करते थे।
एक दिन माता राणुबाई ने नारायण से कहा, 'तुम दिनभर शरारत करते हो, कुछ काम किया करो। यह बात नारायण के मन में घर कर गई। दो-तीन दिन बाद यह बालक अपनी शरारत छोड़कर एक कमरे में ध्यानमग्न बैठ गया। दिनभर में नारायण नहीं दिखा तो माता ने बड़े बेटे से पूछा कि नारायण कहां है।
उसने भी कहा, 'मैंने उसे नहीं देखा।' दोनों को चिंता हुई और उन्हें ढूंढने निकले पर, उनका कोई पता नहीं चला। शाम के वक्त माता ने कमरे में उन्हें ध्यानस्थ देखा तो उनसे पूछा, 'नारायण, तुम यहां क्या कर रहे हो?' तब नारायण ने जवाब दिया, 'मैं पूरे विश्व की चिंता कर रहा हूं।'
इस घटना के बाद नारायण की दिनचर्या बदल गई। उन्होंने समाज के युवा वर्ग को यह समझाया कि स्वस्थ एवं सुगठित शरीर के द्वारा ही राष्ट्र की उन्नति संभव है। इसलिए उन्होंने व्यायाम एवं कसरत करने की सलाह दी एवं शक्ति के उपासक हनुमानजी की मूर्ति की स्थापना की। समस्त भारत का उन्होंने पद-भ्रमण किया। जगह-जगह पर हनुमानजी की मूर्ति स्थापित की, जगह-जगह मठ एवं मठाधीश बनाए ताकि पूरे राष्ट्र में नव-चेतना का निर्माण हो।
बचपन में ही उन्हें साक्षात प्रभु रामचंद्रजी के दर्शन हुए थे। इसलिए वे अपने आपको रामदास कहलाते थे। उस समय महाराष्ट्र में मराठों का शासन था। शिवाजी महाराज रामदासजी के कार्य से बहुत प्रभावित हुए तथा जब इनका मिलन हुआ तब शिवाजी महाराज ने अपना राज्य रामदासजी की झोली में डाल दिया। समर्थ गुरु रामदास रामदास छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज के गुरु थे। शिवाजी महाराज ने उन्हीं से अध्यात्म व हिन्दू राष्ट्र की प्रेरणा प्राप्त की।

रामदासजी ने महाराज से कहा, 'यह राज्य न तुम्हारा है न मेरा। यह राज्य भगवान का है, हम सिर्फ न्यासी हैं।' शिवाजी समय-समय पर उनसे सलाह-मशविरा किया करते थे। रामदास स्वामी ने बहुत से ग्रंथ लिखे। इसमें 'दासबोध' प्रमुख है। इसी प्रकार उन्होंने हमारे मन को भी संस्कारित किया 'मनाचे श्लोक' द्वारा।
समर्थ गुरु रामदास स्वामी ने फाल्गुन कृष्ण नवमी को समाधि ली थी। इसीलिए नवमी तिथि को देश भर में उनके अनुयायी 'दास नवमी' उत्सव के रूप में मनाते है। अपने जीवन का अंतिम समय उन्होंने सातारा के पास परळी के किले पर व्यतीत किया। इस किले का नाम सज्जनगढ़ पड़ा। वहीं उनकी समाधि स्थित है

They now rest upon the hands.
What happened to the army of monkeys?
Here they became the devotees (Gopalas).
Such is the devotion of Ramdas to Rama,
So does Pandharinath (Vithoba) manifest Himself.
Life and Teachings of Samarth Guru Ramdas Swami
Samarth Guru Shri Ramdas Swami was born at a place called Jamb in the Aurangabad district. His childhood name was Narayan, and he was extremely mischievous. The villagers would often complain to his mother about his behavior.
One day, his mother Ranubai said to him,
“You spend the whole day creating mischief. Do something meaningful.”
These words deeply affected young Narayan. A few days later, he suddenly stopped his playful behavior and sat absorbed in deep meditation in a room. When Narayan was not seen throughout the day, his mother asked her elder son where he was.
He replied, “I have not seen him either.”
Both became worried and began searching for him. In the evening, they found Narayan sitting in deep meditation in a room. His mother asked,
“Narayan, what are you doing here?”Narayan replied,“I am worrying about the entire world.”
From that moment onward, Narayan’s daily life completely changed. He taught the youth of society that the progress of a nation is possible only through a healthy and well-built body. Therefore, he encouraged physical exercise and strength training and established idols of Lord Hanuman, the deity of strength and devotion.
He traveled across the length and breadth of India, establishing Hanuman temples, monasteries, and appointing spiritual heads, so that a new spiritual and national consciousness could arise throughout the land.
From childhood itself, he had divine visions of Lord Ramchandra, and hence he came to be known as Ramdas (servant of Rama).
At that time, Maharashtra was under Maratha rule. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was deeply impressed by Ramdas Swami’s work. When they met, Shivaji Maharaj symbolically placed his entire kingdom at Ramdas Swami’s feet.
Samarth Guru Ramdas Swami was the spiritual guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shivaji Maharaj received inspiration for spirituality and the vision of a Hindu nation from him.
Ramdas Swami told Shivaji Maharaj,
“This kingdom belongs neither to you nor to me. It belongs to God. We are merely its trustees.”
Shivaji Maharaj regularly sought his guidance and counsel.
Ramdas Swami authored several important spiritual texts, among which “Dasbodh” is the most renowned. He also refined and uplifted the human mind through “Manache Shlok” (Verses to the Mind).
Samarth Guru Ramdas Swami attained Samadhi on Phalgun Krishna Navami. Therefore, his followers across the country observe this day as “Das Navami”.
He spent the final phase of his life at Parali Fort, near Satara. This fort later came to be known as Sajjangad, where his Samadhi is located.
