English:
“An Offering to God”
There was a Brahmin who served devotedly at a temple of Lord Krishna. His wife was always irritated by the fact that he prioritized God in everything; whether it was food, clothing, or any other item, he would offer it to the Lord first.
One day, *laddus* (sweet balls) were prepared at home. The Brahmin took the *laddus* and set out to offer them to the Deity. His wife was annoyed by this and remarked, "A stone idol isn't going to come alive and eat the food, yet you rush to the temple with everything. Don't come back this time without actually feeding Him; I want to see how God comes to eat." Stung by his wife's taunts, the Brahmin resolved not to return from the temple until God had eaten the offering.
He went to the temple and sat in deep meditation. Placing the *laddus* before the Lord, he began to pray earnestly. An hour passed, then half the day; neither did God appear, nor did the Brahmin move. A crowd gathered around, watching with curiosity to see what would happen. Flies began to buzz, and the Brahmin kept shooing them away. Attracted by the sweet aroma, a line of ants also arrived; the Brahmin brushed them aside as well. Then, stray dogs from outside the temple, tempted by the smell, started approaching, but the Brahmin chased them off too. Seeing the *laddus* lying there, beggars sitting outside also came forward; when one tried to pick up a *laddu*, the Brahmin slapped him hard. The day waned and evening fell; still, God did not appear, and the Brahmin did not rise. Evening turned into night. People concluded that the Brahmin had gone mad—God was certainly not coming. Gradually, everyone went home. The Brahmin, too, became angry; he picked up the *laddus* and threw them outside. The beggars, dogs, ants, and flies—who had been waiting for this very moment all day—pounced on the sweets. Dejected and cursing God, the Brahmin started walking home. All his years of service had gone to waste; he had received no reward. He went to sleep, listening to his wife's taunts.
That night, God appeared in his dream and said, "I did eat your *laddus*." They were delicious, but it would have been even better if You had fed them to me in the morning itself. I had to assume so many forms just to taste Your *laddus*—a fly, an ant, a dog, a beggar—yet You wouldn't let me take them from Your hand. I had to wait all day long. I did eat the *laddus* in the end, but since I had to pick them up from the ground, they got a bit of dirt on them. Next time You bring them, please feed me properly. The Lord departed. The Brahmin woke up. He realized that the Lord had indeed come to partake of the offering, but he himself had failed to recognize Him. Similarly, we too often fail to understand the signs sent by the Lord.
Ram resides in me, Ram resides in you; Ram dwells within everyone.
Love everyone in this world; no one is a stranger.
