रमेश मुस्कुराकर जवाब देता, "अभी मेहनत कर लेने दो। जब बहुत पैसा हो जाएगा, तब आराम से जी लेंगे।"

समय बीतता गया। एक दिन लगातार काम और तनाव की वजह से रमेश की तबीयत अचानक बिगड़ गई। डॉक्टर ने साफ कहा, "अब आपको आराम की ज़रूरत है। परिवार के साथ समय बिताइए, नहीं तो पछताना पड़ेगा।"
लेकिन रमेश ने डॉक्टर की बात भी अनसुनी कर दी। उसे लगा कि अभी बहुत पैसा कमाना बाकी है।
कुछ महीनों बाद एक सुबह वह अपने ऑफिस में ही बेहोश होकर गिर पड़ा। अस्पताल पहुँचने से पहले ही उसकी मृत्यु हो गई।
जब उसकी वसीयत पढ़ी गई तो उसमें करोड़ों की संपत्ति थी, लेकिन उसके अंतिम समय में उसके पास बैठने वाला कोई अपना नहीं था। उसके बच्चे विदेश में थे, रिश्तेदार केवल संपत्ति की चर्चा कर रहे थे, और उसकी पत्नी की आँखों में सिर्फ एक सवाल था—"क्या यही दौलत तुम्हें चाहिए थी?"
