एक छोटे से गाँव में रमेश नाम का युवक रहता था। वह बहुत महत्वाकांक्षी था। उसकी इच्छा थी कि कम समय में बहुत बड़ा आदमी बन जाए। इसी लालच में वह हर काम एक साथ करने की कोशिश करता। कभी खेती, कभी व्यापार, कभी शेयर बाज़ार तो कभी नए-नए बिज़नेस। लेकिन किसी भी काम में धैर्य और अनुशासन नहीं रखता था।
उसके पिता हमेशा समझाते, "बेटा, हर काम की एक सीमा होती है। जो व्यक्ति अपनी क्षमता और मर्यादा पहचानकर चलता है, वही सफल होता है।"
लेकिन रमेश को लगता था कि बड़े सपने देखने वालों के लिए कोई सीमा नहीं होती। उसने पिता की बात अनसुनी कर दी।
एक दिन वह दूसरे शहर जा रहा था। रास्ते में शाम हो गई। उसने एक वृद्धा के छोटे से ढाबे पर रात बिताने का निर्णय लिया। वृद्धा ने भोजन कराया और आराम करने के लिए चारपाई दिखाई।
रमेश ने पूछा, "माँजी, चारपाई पर सोने का कितना किराया है?"
वृद्धा मुस्कुराकर बोली, "सिर्फ दस रुपये।"
रमेश ने सोचा, "चारपाई पर क्यों सोऊँ? नीचे ज़मीन पर चादर बिछा लूँगा। पैसे भी बच जाएंगे।"
उसने पूछा, "अगर मैं ज़मीन पर सो जाऊँ तो?"
वृद्धा ने शांत स्वर में कहा, "तब बीस रुपये लगेंगे।"
रमेश हैरान रह गया। उसने पूछा, "यह कैसी बात हुई? चारपाई सस्ती और ज़मीन महँगी?"
वृद्धा ने मुस्कुराकर उत्तर दिया, "बेटा, चारपाई की अपनी सीमा है। उस पर सोने वाला उतनी ही जगह घेरता है। लेकिन ज़मीन पर सोने वाला कभी इधर फैलता है, कभी उधर। उसकी कोई सीमा नहीं रहती। जीवन भी ऐसा ही है। जो अपनी इच्छाओं, खर्चों और व्यवहार को सीमित रखता है, वही सुखी रहता है। जिसकी इच्छाएँ असीम हो जाती हैं, उसकी परेशानियाँ भी असीम हो जाती हैं।"
वृद्धा की बात रमेश के दिल में उतर गई। उसे अपने पिता की सीख याद आ गई। उसने समझ लिया कि उसकी असफलता का कारण मेहनत की कमी नहीं, बल्कि अनुशासन और सीमाओं की अनदेखी थी।
घर लौटने के बाद उसने एक ही काम पर ध्यान दिया। मेहनत, धैर्य और अनुशासन के साथ खेती शुरू की। धीरे-धीरे उसकी फसल अच्छी होने लगी। कुछ वर्षों में वही रमेश पूरे इलाके का सफल किसान बन गया। अब वह हर युवा से केवल एक ही बात कहता था—
"सपने जरूर देखो, लेकिन उन्हें पूरा करने के लिए अपनी सीमाओं, क्षमता और धैर्य को कभी मत भूलो।"
सीख

A young man named Ramesh lived in a small village. He was very ambitious and desired to become a great success in a short span of time. Driven by this greed, he would try to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously—farming, trading, the stock market, and various new business ventures—yet he lacked patience and discipline in all of them.
His father would often advise him, "Son, every endeavor has its limits. Only the person who recognizes their own capacity and boundaries achieves true success."
However, Ramesh believed that there were no limits for those who dreamed big, and he ignored his father's words.
One day, while traveling to another city, evening fell upon him. He decided to spend the night at a small roadside eatery run by an elderly woman. She served him a meal and showed him a *charpai* (woven cot) where he could rest.
Ramesh asked, "Mother, what is the rent for sleeping on the cot?"
The elderly woman smiled and said, "Just ten rupees."
Ramesh thought to himself, "Why should I sleep on the cot? I can simply spread a sheet on the ground. That way, I’ll save some money."
He asked, "What if I sleep on the ground instead?"
The elderly woman replied calmly, "Then it will cost twenty rupees."
Ramesh was astonished. He asked, "How does that make sense? The cot is cheaper, yet the ground is more expensive?"
The elderly woman smiled and answered, "Son, a cot has its own limits; the person sleeping on it occupies only a fixed amount of space. But someone sleeping on the ground might spread out this way and that—there are no boundaries. Life is much the same. Those who keep their desires, expenses, and behavior within limits remain happy. For those whose desires become boundless, their troubles become boundless too."
Her words struck a chord with Ramesh. He recalled his father's advice and realized that the reason for his failure was not a lack of hard work, but his disregard for discipline and boundaries. Upon returning home, he focused on a single pursuit: farming, which he undertook with hard work, patience, and discipline. Gradually, his crops began to flourish. Within a few years, Ramesh had become a successful farmer in the entire region. Now, he would tell every young person just one thing—
"Do dream, but never lose sight of your limitations, capabilities, and patience while striving to realize them."
**Lesson**
In life, propriety, discipline, and contentment are the greatest assets.
Only the person who respects their own limitations attains true success and lasting happiness.
