कामिका एकादशी का वर्णन प्राचीन धार्मिक कथाओं में भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णु की महिमा और व्रत के पुण्यफल के रूप में मिलता है। इस व्रत की कथा भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर को सुनाई थी। यह कथा बताती है कि सच्चे मन से किया गया पश्चाताप और भगवान की भक्ति मनुष्य के जीवन को बदल सकती है।
🌺 एक क्रोधी ज़मींदार की कहानी
बहुत समय पहले एक समृद्ध गाँव में एक शक्तिशाली, लेकिन अत्यंत क्रोधी स्वभाव का ज़मींदार रहता था। एक दिन किसी बात को लेकर उसका गाँव के एक ब्राह्मण से विवाद हो गया। बात इतनी बढ़ गई कि क्रोध में आकर ज़मींदार ने उस ब्राह्मण के साथ मारपीट कर दी और दुर्भाग्य से उसकी मृत्यु हो गई।
जैसे ही ज़मींदार को अपनी भूल का एहसास हुआ, उसका हृदय पश्चाताप से भर उठा। वह ब्राह्मण का अंतिम संस्कार करके उसकी आत्मा की शांति के लिए प्रायश्चित करना चाहता था, लेकिन गाँव के ब्राह्मणों ने उसका बहिष्कार कर दिया। वे उसके हाथों से अंतिम संस्कार करवाने के लिए तैयार नहीं हुए।
अब ज़मींदार अपराधबोध से टूट चुका था। उसे अपने किए कर्म का अत्यंत दुख था और वह ब्रह्महत्या के पाप से मुक्ति पाने का मार्ग खोजने लगा।
🙏 ऋषि की शरण में पहुँचा ज़मींदार
एक दिन वह एक महान ऋषि की कुटिया में पहुँचा। आँखों में आँसू लिए वह ऋषि के चरणों में गिर पड़ा और बोला—
"हे मुनिवर! मुझसे बहुत बड़ा अपराध हो गया है। मेरे हाथों एक ब्राह्मण की मृत्यु हो गई। मैं इस पाप से अत्यंत दुखी हूँ। कृपा करके मुझे ऐसा मार्ग बताइए, जिससे मैं इस अपराध का प्रायश्चित कर सकूँ।"
ऋषि ने उसकी व्यथा सुनी और करुणा से बोले—
"हे ज़मींदार! यदि तुम्हारे हृदय में सच्चा पश्चाताप है, तो भगवान श्रीहरि की शरण ग्रहण करो। श्रावण मास के कृष्ण पक्ष में आने वाली कामिका एकादशी का श्रद्धापूर्वक व्रत करो। भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करो, तुलसी दल अर्पित करो और रात्रि में हरि-स्मरण करते हुए जागरण करो। यह व्रत तुम्हारे पापों के प्रायश्चित का मार्ग बनेगा।"
🌿 कामिका एकादशी का व्रत
ऋषि की आज्ञा पाकर ज़मींदार ने कामिका एकादशी के दिन पूरी श्रद्धा के साथ व्रत रखा।
उसने भगवान विष्णु की पूजा की। भगवान को धूप, दीप, फल और विशेष रूप से तुलसी दल अर्पित किए। दिनभर वह भगवान के नाम का स्मरण करता रहा और रात में जागकर श्रीहरि की भक्ति में लीन रहा।
उसके मन में अब कोई अहंकार नहीं था। केवल पश्चाताप, भक्ति और भगवान से क्षमा की प्रार्थना थी।
🌟 प्रकट हुए भगवान श्रीहरि
रात्रि के अंतिम प्रहर में जब ज़मींदार भगवान विष्णु का ध्यान कर रहा था, तभी उसके सामने दिव्य प्रकाश प्रकट हुआ।
उस दिव्य प्रकाश के बीच स्वयं भगवान श्रीहरि विष्णु ने उसे दर्शन दिए।
भगवान ने कहा—
"हे भक्त! तुम्हारे हृदय में अपने कर्म के प्रति सच्चा पश्चाताप है। तुमने श्रद्धा और भक्ति के साथ कामिका एकादशी का व्रत किया है। भगवान की शरण में सच्चे मन से आने वाले भक्त पर उनकी कृपा अवश्य होती है।"
भगवान के दर्शन से ज़मींदार का हृदय शांति से भर गया। उसने अपने जीवन को भगवान की भक्ति और सदाचार के मार्ग पर चलाने का संकल्प लिया।
🌸 कामिका एकादशी की महिमा
मान्यता है कि कामिका एकादशी का व्रत श्रद्धा से करने और इसकी कथा सुनने से मनुष्य को अपने पापों से मुक्ति पाने का मार्ग मिलता है।

धार्मिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, कामिका एकादशी पर भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करने से महान तीर्थों में स्नान करने के समान पुण्य प्राप्त होता है।

Lord Krishna himself narrated the story of this fast to Dharmaraj Yudhishthira. The tale illustrates how sincere repentance and devotion to the Divine can transform a person's life.
🌺 The Story of an Irascible Landlord
Long ago, in a prosperous village, there lived a powerful landlord known for his extremely short temper. One day, a dispute arose between him and a village Brahmin. The conflict escalated to such an extent that, in a fit of rage, the landlord assaulted the Brahmin, and tragically, the man died.
As soon as the landlord realized his grave error, his heart was filled with remorse. He wished to perform the last rites and seek atonement for the peace of the Brahmin's soul, but the village Brahmins ostracized him. They refused to allow the final rites to be performed by his hands.
The landlord was shattered by guilt. Deeply pained by his actions, he began searching for a way to be absolved of the sin of *Brahma-hatya* (the killing of a Brahmin).
🙏 The Landlord Seeks Refuge with a Sage
ne day, he arrived at the hermitage of a great sage. With tears in his eyes, he fell at the sage's feet and said—
"O Great Sage! I have committed a terrible crime. A Brahmin has died at my hands. I am deeply tormented by this sin. Please show me a path by which I may atone for this transgression." The sage listened to his anguish and spoke with compassion—
"O Landlord! If there is true repentance in your heart, then seek refuge in Lord Shri Hari. Observe the fast of Kamika Ekadashi—which falls during the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) of the month of Shravana—with devotion. Worship Lord Vishnu, offer Tulsi leaves, and keep a vigil at night while remembering Hari. This fast will pave the way for atonement for your sins."
🌿 The Kamika Ekadashi Fast
Following the sage's instruction, the landlord observed the Kamika Ekadashi fast with utmost devotion.
He worshipped Lord Vishnu, offering incense, lamps, fruits, and—most importantly—Tulsi leaves. Throughout the day, he chanted the Lord's name, and at night, he stayed awake, immersed in devotion to Shri Hari.
There was no longer any arrogance in his heart; there was only repentance, devotion, and a prayer for forgiveness from the Lord.
🌟 Lord Shri Hari Appears
In the final watch of the night, while the landlord was meditating on Lord Vishnu, a divine light appeared before him.
Amidst that divine light, Lord Shri Hari Vishnu Himself appeared and granted him a vision.
The Lord said—
"O Devotee! Your heart holds true repentance for your actions. You have observed the Kamika Ekadashi fast with faith and devotion. The Lord’s grace is surely bestowed upon the devotee who comes to Him with a sincere heart."
The vision of the Lord filled the landlord's heart with peace. He resolved to lead his life on the path of devotion to God and righteous conduct.
🌸 The Glory of Kamika Ekadashi
It is believed that observing the Kamika Ekadashi fast with devotion and listening to its story provides a path for a person to be liberated from their sins.
🔱 Liberation from Sins:
This fast is considered an excellent means of devotion to Lord Vishnu, self-restraint, and atonement.
🌊 Merit of Holy Pilgrimage Baths:
According to religious beliefs, worshipping Lord Vishnu on Kamika Ekadashi yields merit equivalent to bathing in great holy pilgrimage sites. 🌿 The Glory of Tulsi:
