बहुत समय पहले की बात है। एक छोटे से राज्य में वीरेंद्र नाम का एक युवक रहता था। वह एक साधारण किसान का पुत्र था। उसके पिता चाहते थे कि वह खेती करे, लेकिन वीरेंद्र का सपना था कि वह राज्य का सबसे श्रेष्ठ धनुर्धर बने और अपनी प्रतिभा से लोगों की सेवा करे।
उस समय राज्य में एक प्रसिद्ध गुरुकुल था, जहाँ केवल राजपरिवार और बड़े घरानों के बच्चों को ही शिक्षा मिलती थी। जब वीरेंद्र ने वहाँ प्रवेश लेने की इच्छा जताई, तो लोगों ने उसका मज़ाक उड़ाया।
एक दिन गाँव के कुछ लोग हँसते हुए बोले, "अरे वीरेंद्र! तुम्हारे जैसे गरीब किसान के बेटे का धनुर्धर बनने का सपना वैसा ही है जैसे कोई चिड़िया आकाश को अपने पंखों में बाँधना चाहे।"
उनकी बातें सुनकर वीरेंद्र का मन दुखी हुआ, लेकिन उसने हार नहीं मानी। उसने मन ही मन निश्चय किया कि चाहे कितनी भी कठिनाइयाँ आएँ, वह अपने लक्ष्य से पीछे नहीं हटेगा।
गुरुकुल में प्रवेश न मिलने पर उसने जंगल को ही अपना गुरुकुल बना लिया। वह प्रतिदिन सूर्योदय से पहले उठता, लकड़ी से बने धनुष-बाण से अभ्यास करता और घंटों तक अपने लक्ष्य पर निशाना साधता। कभी बारिश होती, कभी तेज़ धूप पड़ती, लेकिन उसके हौसलों की आग कभी ठंडी नहीं हुई।
कई वर्षों तक लगातार अभ्यास करने के बाद उसकी धनुर्विद्या इतनी अद्भुत हो गई कि दूर-दूर तक उसकी चर्चा होने लगी।
उसी समय राज्य पर पड़ोसी राजा ने आक्रमण कर दिया। युद्ध के दौरान शत्रु सेना ने पहाड़ी पर कब्ज़ा कर लिया, जहाँ से वे राज्य की सेना पर लगातार प्रहार कर रहे थे। राज्य के बड़े-बड़े योद्धा भी उन्हें रोकने में असफल हो रहे थे।
राजा बहुत चिंतित थे। तभी किसी सैनिक ने वीरेंद्र का नाम सुझाया। राजा ने उसे बुलवाया।
वीरेंद्र ने बिना किसी डर के युद्धभूमि में कदम रखा। उसने अपनी एकाग्रता और अद्भुत धनुर्विद्या से शत्रु सेना के प्रमुख योद्धाओं को परास्त कर दिया। उसके निशाने इतने सटीक थे कि शत्रु सेना घबराकर पीछे हटने लगी।
कुछ ही समय में युद्ध समाप्त हो गया और राज्य को विजय प्राप्त हुई।
राजा ने प्रसन्न होकर वीरेंद्र को सम्मानित किया और पूछा, "तुमने यह अद्भुत कौशल कहाँ से सीखा?"
वीरेंद्र मुस्कुराकर बोला, "महाराज, जब दुनिया ने मेरे सपनों पर हँसी उड़ाई, तब मैंने हार मानने के बजाय अपने हौसलों को गुरु बना लिया।"
उसकी बात सुनकर सभा में उपस्थित सभी लोग भावुक हो गए। वही लोग, जो कभी उसका उपहास उड़ाते थे, आज उसकी प्रशंसा कर रहे थे।
उस दिन वीरेंद्र ने सबको एक अमूल्य शिक्षा दी—
"हार की बात मत करो। कठिन रास्तों से मत डरो। यदि लक्ष्य पर नज़र और मन में विश्वास हो, तो एक दिन मंज़िल स्वयं कहती है— अब और इम्तिहान मत कर।"
शिक्षा:
सफलता उन्हें ही मिलती है जो परिस्थितियों से नहीं, अपने हौसलों से लड़ते हैं। पंख नहीं, बल्कि दृढ़ संकल्प और अथक परिश्रम ही इंसान को ऊँची उड़ान देते हैं।

At the same time the neighboring king attacked the kingdom. During the war, the enemy army captured the hill, from where they were continuously attacking the state army. Even the big warriors of the state were failing to stop them.
The king was very worried. Then some soldier suggested the name of Virendra. The king called him.
Virendra stepped into the battlefield without any fear. With his concentration and amazing archery, he defeated the major warriors of the enemy army. His shots were so accurate that the enemy army got scared and started retreating.
Within no time the war ended and the kingdom was conquered.
The king was pleased and honored Virendra and asked, "Where did you learn this wonderful skill?"
Virendra smiled and said, "Maharaj, when the world laughed at my dreams, instead of accepting defeat, I made my courage my teacher."
Everyone present in the meeting became emotional after listening to him. The same people who once ridiculed him were praising him today.
That day Virendra gave an invaluable lesson to everyone-
"Don't talk about defeat. Don't be afraid of difficult paths. If you have an eye on the goal and faith in your mind, then one day the destination itself will say - don't test me anymore."
