बहुत समय पहले की बात है। प्राचीन भारत में धर्मपाल नाम का एक राजा राज्य करता था। वह पराक्रमी तो था, लेकिन उसे अपने धन, बल और वैभव का बहुत अहंकार था। वह सोचता था कि संसार में उससे बड़ा कोई नहीं है। उसकी प्रजा उससे डरती थी, पर प्रेम नहीं करती थी।
एक दिन राजा के दरबार में एक वृद्ध साधु आए। उन्होंने राजा से कहा, "राजन! मनुष्य को कभी अहंकार नहीं करना चाहिए। समय और कर्म सबसे बड़े होते हैं।"
राजा हँस पड़ा और बोला, "मेरे पास असीम धन है, विशाल सेना है और शक्तिशाली मित्र हैं। मेरा कोई क्या बिगाड़ सकता है?"
साधु मुस्कुराए और बोले, "जब शनिदेव की दृष्टि पड़ती है, तब राजा भी रंक बन जाता है और रंक भी राजा बन सकता है।"
राजा ने उनकी बात का उपहास उड़ाया और उन्हें दरबार से बाहर निकलवा दिया।
कुछ दिनों बाद शनिदेव की साढ़ेसाती का प्रभाव राजा पर आरंभ हुआ। धीरे-धीरे उसके जीवन में कठिनाइयाँ आने लगीं। पहले राज्य में अकाल पड़ा, फिर पड़ोसी राजा ने आक्रमण कर दिया। युद्ध में उसकी सेना पराजित हो गई। उसके विश्वसनीय मंत्री भी उसे छोड़कर चले गए।
राजा को अपना राजमहल छोड़कर जंगलों में भटकना पड़ा। जो लोग कभी उसके सामने सिर झुकाते थे, वही अब उसे पहचानने से भी इंकार कर देते थे।
भूख और प्यास से व्याकुल राजा एक गाँव पहुँचा। वहाँ उसने मजदूरी करके अपना पेट भरना शुरू किया। पहली बार उसे समझ आया कि सामान्य लोगों का जीवन कितना कठिन होता है।
एक दिन वह एक मंदिर के बाहर बैठा था। तभी उसे वही वृद्ध साधु दिखाई दिए। राजा उनके चरणों में गिर पड़ा और बोला, "गुरुदेव! मैंने अहंकार में आपकी बात नहीं मानी। आज मैं सब कुछ खो चुका हूँ।"
साधु ने कहा, "राजन, शनिदेव किसी के शत्रु नहीं हैं। वे तो कर्मों का न्याय करने वाले देवता हैं। उनका उद्देश्य दंड देना नहीं, बल्कि मनुष्य को सही मार्ग दिखाना है।"
राजा की आँखों से आँसू बहने लगे। उसने अपने जीवन की गलतियों पर पश्चाताप किया और प्रण लिया कि यदि उसे फिर अवसर मिला तो वह प्रजा की सेवा करेगा।
कुछ समय बाद शनिदेव की कृपा हुई। धीरे-धीरे परिस्थितियाँ बदलने लगीं। राजा को अपने पुराने सहयोगी मिले, सेना का पुनर्गठन हुआ और उसने अपना राज्य वापस प्राप्त कर लिया।
लेकिन अब वह पहले जैसा अहंकारी राजा नहीं था। वह विनम्र, दयालु और न्यायप्रिय बन चुका था। उसने गरीबों की सहायता की, धर्म का पालन किया और प्रजा के सुख-दुःख को अपना समझा।
उसके राज्य में फिर से समृद्धि लौट आई। लोग अब उससे डरते नहीं थे, बल्कि उसका सम्मान करते थे।
शिक्षा
शनिदेव कष्ट देने के लिए नहीं, बल्कि मनुष्य को उसके कर्मों का फल देकर सही मार्ग पर चलाने के लिए आते हैं। अहंकार पतन का कारण बनता है, जबकि विनम्रता, परिश्रम और सद्कर्म जीवन को ऊँचा उठाते हैं। जो व्यक्ति अपने कर्म सुधार लेता है, उस पर शनिदेव की कृपा अवश्य होती है।

Long ago, in ancient India, a king named Dharmapal ruled over his kingdom. Although he was mighty, he was consumed by arrogance regarding his wealth, strength, and grandeur. He believed there was no one greater than himself in the world. His subjects feared him but did not love him.
One day, an elderly sage arrived at the king's court. He said to the king, "O King! A human being should never be arrogant. Time and one's deeds are supreme."
The sage smiled and replied, "When the gaze of Lord Shani falls upon someone, even a king can become a pauper, and a pauper can become a king."
The king mocked the sage's words and had him thrown out of the court.
A few days later, the influence of *Shani-Sade-Sati* (a challenging seven-and-a-half-year astrological phase associated with Lord Shani) began to affect the king. Gradually, hardships entered his life. First, a famine struck the kingdom, and then a neighboring king invaded. His army was defeated in battle, and even his trusted ministers abandoned him.
The king was forced to leave his palace and wander through the forests. People who once bowed their heads before him now refused to even recognize him.
Tormented by hunger and thirst, the king reached a village. There, he began working as a laborer to sustain himself. For the first time, he realized how difficult the lives of ordinary people truly are.
One day, while sitting outside a temple, he spotted the same elderly sage. The king fell at his feet and said, "Gurudev! Blinded by arrogance, I did not heed your words. Today, I have lost everything."
The sage said, "O King, Lord Shani is no one's enemy. He is the deity who dispenses justice based on one's deeds. His purpose is not to punish, but to guide humanity onto the right path."
Tears began to flow from the king's eyes. He repented for the mistakes of his past and vowed that if given another chance, he would serve his subjects.
After some time, Lord Shani’s grace shone upon him. Gradually, circumstances began to change. The king reunited with his old allies, reorganized his army, and regained his kingdom.
However, he was no longer the arrogant king he once was; he had become humble, compassionate, and just. He helped the poor, upheld righteousness, and treated the joys and sorrows of his subjects as his own.
Prosperity returned to his kingdom. People no longer feared him; instead, they respected him.
