एक गाँव में एक परिश्रमी किसान रहता था।उसके खेत में पानी की भारी कमी थी, जिससे उसकी फसल बार-बार खराब हो जाती थी. एक दिन उसने ठान लिया कि अब वह अपने खेत में कुआँ खुदवाकर ही रहेगा, ताकि इस समस्या से हमेशा के लिए छुटकारा मिल सके।
वह एक मजदूर के पास गया और कुआँ खुदवाने का काम शुरू करवाया. मजदूर ने कुछ दिन मेहनत की, लेकिन थोड़ी खुदाई के बाद ही काम अधूरा छोड़कर चला गया।
किसान चिंतित हो उठा. उसने दूसरे मजदूर को बुलाया, लेकिन इस बार उसने सोचा, “नए मजदूर को आधा खुदा हुआ कुआँ क्यों दूँ? उसे तो उतने ही पैसे मिलने हैं, इसलिए बेहतर है कि वह नए सिरे से खुदाई शुरू करे।”
इसी सोच के कारण हर बार नया गड्ढा शुरू होता, थोड़ी खुदाई होती और फिर काम अधूरा छूट जाता. कुछ ही समय में खेत में कई अधूरे गड्ढे बन गए, लेकिन एक भी कुआँ तैयार नहीं हुआ।
आखिरकार किसान थक-हारकर बैठ गया और सोचने लगा कि आखिर उससे कहाँ गलती हो रही है. तभी वहाँ से गुजर रहे एक बुजुर्ग ने उसे उदास देखा और उसके पास आकर उसकी परेशानी का कारण पूछा।
किसान ने अपनी पूरी व्यथा उन्हें सुनाई. बुजुर्ग मुस्कुराए और शांत स्वर में बोले, “तुम हर बार नई शुरुआत कर देते हो, लेकिन किसी एक काम को पूरा करने का धैर्य नहीं रखते. यदि तुम एक ही जगह पर लगातार मेहनत करते, तो अब तक पानी निकल चुका होता।
यह बात किसान के दिल को छू गई. उसे अपनी गलती का एहसास हो गया. उसने उसी क्षण निश्चय किया कि अब वह किसी पर निर्भर नहीं रहेगा और एक ही स्थान पर पूरी लगन से मेहनत करेगा।
अगले ही दिन से उसने खुद कुआँ खोदना शुरू कर दिया. वह बिना रुके, बिना हारे लगातार मेहनत करता रहा. कुछ ही दिनों में उसकी मेहनत रंग लाई और आखिरकार उसे पानी मिल गया।
अब उसका खेत हरा-भरा हो गया और उसकी जिंदगी खुशियों से भर गई।

A hardworking farmer lived in a village. His field suffered from a severe water shortage, causing his crops to fail repeatedly. One day, he resolved to have a well dug in his field so he could be rid of this problem once and for all.
He hired a laborer and began the work of digging the well. The laborer worked hard for a few days but left the job unfinished after digging only a little.
The farmer became worried. He called another laborer, but this time he thought, "Why should I give the new laborer a partially dug well? He is going to get paid the same amount anyway, so it is better if he starts digging from scratch."
Because of this mindset, a new pit would be started each time; there would be some digging, and then the work would be left incomplete. Before long, the field was dotted with several unfinished pits, yet not a single well was ready.
Finally, the farmer sat down in despair, wondering where he was going wrong. Just then, an elderly man passing by noticed his dejection, approached him, and asked the reason for his distress.
The farmer shared his entire plight with him. The elderly man smiled and said in a calm voice, "You keep making fresh starts every time, but you lack the patience to see a single task through to completion. Had you persisted in your efforts at just one spot, you would have found water by now."
These words touched the farmer's heart. He realized his mistake. Right then, he resolved not to depend on anyone else and to work diligently at a single location.
The very next day, he began digging the well himself. He worked tirelessly and persistently, never giving up. Within a few days, his hard work paid off, and he finally struck water.
His fields turned lush and green, and his life was filled with happiness.
Moral:
Friends! Success comes not from constantly making new starts, but from completing a single task with consistency and patience. Excessive dependence on others and a lack of follow-through steer us away from our goals.
