ब्रह्मा जी की पूजा, व्रत, यज्ञ आदि क्यों नहीं होते ?

ब्रह्मा जी के सृष्टि की रचना के कृत्य में सबसे पहले, ब्रह्मा जी के मन से चार कुमार प्रकट हुए, जो पाँच वर्ष की अवस्था के जान पड़ते थे और ब्रह्मतेज से प्रज्वलित हो रहे थे। प्रथम थे सनक, दूसरे सनंदन, तीसरे सनातन और चौथे सनतकुमार। इसके बाद ब्रह्मा जी के मुख से स्वर्ण के समान कांतिमय कुमार , क्षत्रियों के बीज स्वरूप स्वयंभू मनु और उनकी पत्नी शतरूपा उत्पन्न हुए।
पुत्रों की उत्पत्ति के पश्चात ब्रह्मा जी ने उनसे सृष्टि के रचना करने को कहा परंतु ब्रह्मा पुत्र अत्यंत भागवत परायण होने के कारण तपस्या करने चले गए। इससे जगतपति ब्रह्मा को बड़ा क्रोध आया और कोपसक्त ब्रह्मदेव ब्रह्मतेज में जलने लगे। इसी समय उनके मस्तक से ग्यारह रूद्र प्रकट हुए।
सृष्टि के रचना के लिए ब्रह्मा के दाएँ कान से पुलत्स्य, बाएँ कान से पुलह, दाहिने नेत्र से अत्रि, वाम नेत्र से कृतु, नासिका छिद्र से मकुख से अंगिरा एवं रुचि, वाम हाथ से भृगु, दाएँ हाथ से दक्ष, छाया के कर्दम, नाभि से पंचशिख , वक्षस्थल से वोढू, कंठ से नारद स्कन्द से मारिचि, गले से अपन्तरतमा, रसना से वाशिसठ, अधरोष्ठ से प्रचेता, वामकुक्षिसे हंस और दक्षिणकुक्षि से यति प्रकट हुए। ब्रह्मा ने अपने इन पुत्रों को सृष्टि की रचना करने की आज्ञा दी।
इसपर नारद ने कहा, जगतपते पहले आप सनक, स्कंदन, संतकुआर आदि ज्येष्ठ पुत्रों को बुला कर उनका विवाह कीजिए और उसके पश्चात हम लोगों से ऐसा करने को कहिए । जब हमारे ज्येष्ठ भ्राता तपस्या कर रहे हैं, तो आप हमको क्यों संसार के बंधन में डाल रहे हैं? आपने कुछ पुत्रों को तो अमृत से भी बढ़कर तपस्या का कार्य दिया है और हमें आप विष से भी विषम भोग दे रहे हैं। परमात्मा की भक्ति को छोड़ कर कौन मूर्ख विनाशकारी विषयों में मन लगाएगा।
नारद जी की बात सुनकर ब्रह्मा जी रोष से भर उठे । उनका मुख लाल हो गया और सारे अंग काँपने लगे ।
फिर अत्यंत रूष्ट हो कर ब्रह्मा जी ने नारद को श्राप दिया और बोले, हे नारद! मेरे श्राप से तुम्हारे ज्ञान का लोप हो जाएगा। तुम कामनियों के क्रीड़ा मृग बन जाओगे।
शृंगार शास्त्र के ज्ञाता शृंगार रसास्वादन के अत्यंत लोलुप लोगों के गुरु हो जाओगे उस समय 'उपबहर्ण' नाम से तुम्हारी प्रसिद्धि होगी। उसके पश्चात पुनः जनम में दासिपुत्र हो कर वैष्णो भक्ति से भगवान की कृपा पाकर पुनः मेरे पुत्र बनोगे। उस समय मैं तुम्हें दिव्य और पुरातन ज्ञान प्रदान करूँगा। परंतु इस समय तुम मेरी आँखों से ओझल हो जाओ और मृत्यु लोक में गिरो।
नारद बोले तात! आप अपने क्रोध को रोकिए आप तपस्वियों के स्वामी हैं । जगत सृष्टा हैं। आपका यह क्रोध मुझ पर अकारण ही हुआ है। विद्वान पुरुष को चाहिए की वह अपने कुमार्गगामी पुत्र को दंड दे अथवा उसका त्याग कर दे । परंतु आप पंडित होकर अपने तपस्वी पुत्र को कैसे श्राप दे सकते हैं? जगतसृष्टा का ही पुत्र क्यों ना हो, यदि भगवान श्रीहरी के चरणो में उसकी भक्ति नहीं है तो वह भारतभूमि में अधमो से भी बढ़कर अधम है। आपने बिना किसी अपराध के ही आपने मुझे श्राप दिया है बदले में यदि मैं भी श्राप दूँ तो कदापि अनुचित नहीं होगा।
यह कह कर नारद जी बोले - मेरे श्राप से सम्पूर्ण लोकों में आपके कवच, स्त्रोत और पूजा सहित आपके सभी मन्त्रों का निश्चय ही लोप हो जाएगा। जबतक तीन कल्प ना बीत जाएँ, तब तक तीनों लोकों में आप अपूज्य बने रहें ।
इस समय आपका यज्ञ भाग बंद हो जाएगा। व्रत आदि में भी आपका पूजन नहीं होगा। आप केवल देवताओं के पूजनीय बने रहेंगे। तीन कल्प बीत जाने पर आप पूजनियों के भी पूजनीय होंगे।
इस प्रकार नारद जी के श्राप से ब्रह्मा जी के पूजा स्त्रोत का लोप हो गया तथा ब्रह्मा जी की पूजा, व्रत, यज्ञ आदि पर विराम लग गया।

Why Are Lord Brahma Not Worshipped Through Regular Rituals, Fasts, and Yajnas?
According to the Puranas, there is a well-known story that explains why Lord Brahma is rarely worshipped and why regular vows (vratas), yajnas, and rituals dedicated to Him are uncommon.
The Creation of Brahma's Sons
At the beginning of creation, Lord Brahma first manifested the Four Kumaras from His mind. They appeared as radiant five-year-old boys, glowing with divine brilliance. They were:
- Sanaka
- Sanandana
- Sanatana
- Sanatkumara
After them, from Brahma's mouth were born the luminous Svayambhuva Manu, regarded as the progenitor of mankind, and his wife Shatarupa.
The Four Kumaras Refuse to Create
After creating His sons, Brahma instructed them to help expand creation. However, the Four Kumaras were deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu and chose a life of renunciation and penance instead of worldly life.
The Birth of Other Prajapatis and Sages
To continue creation, Brahma produced many great sages and progenitors (Prajapatis) from different parts of His body:
- Pulastya from His right ear
- Pulaha from His left ear
- Atri from His right eye
- Kratu from His left eye
- Angiras and Ruchi from His mouth
- Bhrigu from His left hand
- Daksha from His right hand
- Kardama from His shadow
- Panchashikha from His navel
- Vodhū (as mentioned in the text) from His chest
- Narada from His throat
- Marichi from His shoulder
- Apantaratama from His neck
- Vashistha from His tongue
- Pracheta from His lower lip
- Hamsa from His left side
- Yati from His right side
Brahma commanded all of them to participate in the work of creation.
Narada Questions Brahma
Narada respectfully said:
"O Lord of the Universe, first call your elder sons—Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana, and Sanatkumara—and arrange their marriages. Only then ask us to marry and expand creation. They have been allowed to pursue penance, while we are being bound to worldly life. You have given some of your sons the nectar of spiritual austerity, but are asking us to accept worldly pleasures, which are more poisonous than poison itself. Who would abandon devotion to the Supreme Lord for temporary worldly attachments?"
Brahma Curses Narada
Hearing Narada's words, Brahma became furious. His face turned red, and His body trembled with anger. He then cursed Narada:
"Because of My curse, your divine knowledge will disappear. You will become captivated by women and become an expert in the arts of romance. You will be famous by the name Upabarhana. Later, you will be born as the son of a maidservant. Through devotion to Lord Vishnu, you will once again earn My grace and be reborn as My son. At that time, I shall bestow upon you the ancient divine knowledge again. But for now, leave My sight and fall into the mortal world."
Narada's Response and Counter-Curse
Narada calmly replied:
"Father, please control your anger. You are the creator of the universe and the master of ascetics. Your anger toward me is without cause. A wise father should either correct or abandon a son who has gone astray—but how can you curse a son who seeks the path of penance? Even if someone is born as the son of the creator himself, without devotion to Lord Hari he is lower than the lowest. Since you have cursed me without any fault, it would not be improper for me to curse you in return."
Narada then pronounced his curse:
"By my curse, your hymns, protective chants, worship, and sacred mantras shall disappear from all the worlds. For three Kalpas, you shall remain unworthy of worship throughout the three worlds.
You shall no longer receive offerings in yajnas, nor shall people worship you through vows and religious observances. Only the gods shall continue to honor you. After three Kalpas, you will once again become worthy of worship."
The Result of Narada's Curse
According to this Puranic tradition, Narada's curse caused the disappearance of Lord Brahma's widespread worship, hymns, and rituals. As a result:
- Regular worship of Brahma became rare.
- Vratas (religious fasts) dedicated to Him ceased.
- Yajnas generally no longer included a special share for Him.
- Only a few temples remained dedicated to Lord Brahma.
This story is one of the traditional Puranic explanations for why Lord Brahma, despite being the creator in the Hindu Trinity, is not commonly worshipped in the same way as Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva. Different Puranas present additional explanations, including other legends involving curses by Goddess Saraswati or Lord Shiva.
