How to Please God? Discover the Secret of Loving Devotion.
Hindi:

This story is one of the most touching tales from the Bhaktamal, proving that to God, the innocence and pure love of a devotee are far more precious than lavish offerings or golden crowns.
In the sacred land of Braj, there lived a great saint and scholar known as Vyas Ji (Shri Hariram Vyas). He was an ardent devotee of Radha-Krishna and such an eminent authority on the scriptures that even renowned scholars hesitated to debate with him. He was meticulous about rules, traditions, and religious procedures.
One day, Vyas Ji was adorning Thakur Ji (Lord Krishna). He dressed the Lord in beautiful yellow garments, decorated Him with ornaments, and finally came the time to tie the pag (turban). Taking a silk cloth, he carefully began tying the turban on the Lord's head according to all the scriptural rules.
But then something strange happened. Each time Vyas Ji tucked in the final fold of the turban, it loosened and fell off on its own. He tried a second time, then a third time… Hours passed. Sweat appeared on his forehead. He thought perhaps the cloth was defective or that some impurity had occurred through his hands. He took a fresh piece of cloth and washed his hands with holy Ganga water, but the result remained the same—the turban simply would not stay on Thakur Ji's head.
At that moment, Vyas Ji had an inner spiritual experience (according to some saints, an invisible voice echoed through the temple).
Thakur Ji said:
"Vyas Ji, your turban contains a great deal of 'scripture,' but it lacks innocence and spontaneity. You are tying it with fear and reverence, treating Me only as God. But I desire the affection of one who treats Me as a friend or a beloved child and showers Me with simple love. Outside, on the temple steps, sits one of My cowherd devotees. Today, I shall have My turban tied only by him."
Vyas Ji immediately rushed outside the temple. There he saw a simple cowherd, dressed in old, torn clothes, sitting in a corner and quietly sobbing. He was considered to belong to a lower caste and therefore never dared to enter the temple.
Vyas Ji fell at his feet. The cowherd became frightened and said, "Maharaj! You are such a great scholar. Why are you touching my feet?"
Vyas Ji replied, "Brother, today all my scholarship has failed me. Thakur Ji is waiting for you. Come, today you alone will tie His turban."
With trembling steps, the cowherd entered the sanctum. He knew no mantras and was unaware of any rituals. He simply lifted his cotton towel and, with the carefree affection of one friend dressing another, wrapped it around Thakur Ji's head.
To everyone's amazement, the turban not only stayed in place but looked so beautiful that Vyas Ji stood speechless. There was a smile on Thakur Ji's face unlike any Vyas Ji had ever seen before.
Vyas Ji then understood a profound truth:
God is won not by scholarship, but by love.
From that day onward, he set aside all pride in his learning and surrendered completely at the feet of Thakur Ji, seeking only the refuge of pure love. 🙏🚩
