🕉️ आदि गुरु शंकराचार्य की करुणा और मां लक्ष्मी की कृपा की उस अद्भुत कहानी की, जिसने दुनिया को 'कनकधारा स्तोत्र' दिया।

​एक बार आदि शंकराचार्य भिक्षा मांगते हुए एक बेहद गरीब ब्राह्मण महिला की कुटिया पर पहुंचे। महिला के पास देने के लिए अन्न का एक दाना भी नहीं था। वह बहुत दुखी हुई और उसने मन की तड़प के साथ अपने घर में बचा हुआ एकमात्र सूखा आंवला शंकराचार्य की झोली में डाल दिया।

​उसकी निस्वार्थ दानशीलता देखकर शंकराचार्य का हृदय भर आया। उन्होंने उसी समय मां लक्ष्मी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए एक स्तुति गाई। देवी लक्ष्मी प्रकट हुईं और कहा— "इस स्त्री के प्रारब्ध (कर्म) में धन नहीं है।"

​तब शंकराचार्य ने तर्क दिया कि— "मां, इसने आज अपना सर्वस्व (वो सूखा आंवला) मुझे दे दिया है, क्या यह पुण्य इसके पिछले पापों को काटने के लिए काफी नहीं?"

🕉️​शंकराचार्य की बात सुन मां लक्ष्मी प्रसन्न हुईं और उस गरीब कुटिया में सोने के आंवलों की वर्षा कर दी। वही स्तुति आज 'कनकधारा स्तोत्र' के नाम से जानी जाती है।

​यह स्तोत्र संस्कृत के २१ श्लोकों का संग्रह है। इसका पहला और सबसे प्रसिद्ध श्लोक इस प्रकार है

अंगहरे पुलकभूषण माश्रयन्ती भृगांगनैव मुकुलाभरणं तमालम।

अंगीकृताखिल विभूतिरपांगलीला मांगल्यदास्तु मम मंगलदेवताया:।।1।।

मुग्ध्या मुहुर्विदधती वदनै मुरारै: प्रेमत्रपाप्रणिहितानि गतागतानि।

माला दृशोर्मधुकर विमहोत्पले या सा मै श्रियं दिशतु सागर सम्भवाया:।।2।।

विश्वामरेन्द्रपदविभ्रमदानदक्षमानन्द हेतु रधिकं मधुविद्विषोपि।

बाह्यन्तरे मधुजित: श्रितकौस्तुभै या हारावलीव हरि‍नीलमयी विभाति।

कामप्रदा भगवतो पि कटाक्षमाला कल्याण भावहतु मे कमलालयाया:।।5।।

कालाम्बुदालिललितोरसि कैटभारेर्धाराधरे स्फुरति या तडिदंगनेव्।

मातु: समस्त जगतां महनीय मूर्तिभद्राणि मे दिशतु भार्गवनन्दनाया:।।6।।

प्राप्तं पदं प्रथमत: किल यत्प्रभावान्मांगल्य भाजि: मधुमायनि मन्मथेन।

मध्यापतेत दिह मन्थर मीक्षणार्द्ध मन्दालसं च मकरालयकन्यकाया:।।7।।

दद्याद दयानुपवनो द्रविणाम्बुधाराम स्मिभकिंचन विहंग शिशौ विषण्ण।

दुष्कर्मधर्ममपनीय चिराय दूरं नारायण प्रणयिनी नयनाम्बुवाह:।।8।।

इष्टा विशिष्टमतयो पि यथा ययार्द्रदृष्टया त्रिविष्टपपदं सुलभं लभंते।

दृष्टि: प्रहूष्टकमलोदर दीप्ति रिष्टां पुष्टि कृषीष्ट मम पुष्कर विष्टराया:।।9।।

गीर्देवतैति गरुड़ध्वज भामिनीति शाकम्भरीति शशिशेखर वल्लभेति।

सृष्टि स्थिति प्रलय केलिषु संस्थितायै तस्यै ‍नमस्त्रि भुवनैक गुरोस्तरूण्यै ।।10।।

श्रुत्यै नमोस्तु शुभकर्मफल प्रसूत्यै रत्यै नमोस्तु रमणीय गुणार्णवायै।

शक्तयै नमोस्तु शतपात्र निकेतानायै पुष्टयै नमोस्तु पुरूषोत्तम वल्लभायै।।11।।

नमोस्तु नालीक निभाननायै नमोस्तु दुग्धौदधि जन्म भूत्यै ।

नमोस्तु सोमामृत सोदरायै नमोस्तु नारायण वल्लभायै।।12।।

सम्पतकराणि सकलेन्द्रिय नन्दानि साम्राज्यदान विभवानि सरोरूहाक्षि।

त्व द्वंदनानि दुरिता हरणाद्यतानि मामेव मातर निशं कलयन्तु नान्यम्।।13।।

यत्कटाक्षसमुपासना विधि: सेवकस्य कलार्थ सम्पद:।

संतनोति वचनांगमानसंसत्वां मुरारिहृदयेश्वरीं भजे।।14।।

सरसिजनिलये सरोज हस्ते धवलमांशुकगन्धमाल्यशोभे।

भगवति हरिवल्लभे मनोज्ञे त्रिभुवनभूतिकरि प्रसीद मह्यम्।।15।।

दग्धिस्तिमि: कनकुंभमुखा व सृष्टिस्वर्वाहिनी विमलचारू जल प्लुतांगीम।

प्रातर्नमामि जगतां जननीमशेष लोकाधिनाथ गृहिणी ममृताब्धिपुत्रीम्।।16।।

कमले कमलाक्षवल्लभे त्वं करुणापूरतरां गतैरपाड़ंगै:।

अवलोकय माम किंचनानां प्रथमं पात्रमकृत्रिमं दयाया : ।।17।।

स्तुवन्ति ये स्तुतिभिर भूमिरन्वहं त्रयीमयीं त्रिभुवनमातरं रमाम्।

गुणाधिका गुरुतरभाग्यभागिनो भवन्ति ते बुधभाविताया:।।18।।

* जैसे भ्रमरी अधखिले कुसुमों से अलंकृत तमाल-तरु का आश्रय लेती है, उसी प्रकार जो प्रकाश श्रीहरि के रोमांच से सुशोभित श्रीअंगों पर निरंतर पड़ता रहता है तथा जिसमें संपूर्ण ऐश्वर्य का निवास है, संपूर्ण मंगलों की अधिष्ठात्री देवी भगवती महालक्ष्मी का वह कटाक्ष मेरे लिए मंगलदायी हो।।1।।

* जैसे भ्रमरी महान कमल दल पर मंडराती रहती है, उसी प्रकार जो श्रीहरि के मुखारविंद की ओर बराबर प्रेमपूर्वक जाती है और लज्जा के कारण लौट आती है। समुद्र कन्या लक्ष्मी की वह मनोहर मुग्ध दृष्टिमाला मुझे धन संपत्ति प्रदान करें ।।2।।

* जो संपूर्ण देवताओं के अधिपति इंद्र के पद का वैभव-विलास देने में समर्थ है, मधुहन्ता श्रीहरि को भी अधिकाधिक आनंद प्रदान करने वाली है तथा जो नीलकमल के भीतरी भाग के समान मनोहर जान पड़ती है, उन लक्ष्मीजी के अधखुले नेत्रों की दृष्टि क्षण भर के लिए मुझ पर थोड़ी सी अवश्य पड़े।।3।।

* शेषशायी भगवान विष्णु की धर्मपत्नी श्री लक्ष्मीजी के नेत्र हमें ऐश्वर्य प्रदान करने वाले हों, जिनकी पु‍तली तथा बरौनियां अनंग के वशीभूत हो अधखुले, किंतु साथ ही निर्निमेष (अपलक) नयनों से देखने वाले आनंदकंद श्री मुकुन्द को अपने निकट पाकर कुछ तिरछी हो जाती हैं।।4।।

* जो भगवान मधुसूदन के कौस्तुभमणि-मंडित वक्षस्थल में इंद्रनीलमयी हारावली-सी सुशोभित होती है तथा उनके भी मन में प्रेम का संचार करने वाली है, वह कमल-कुंजवासिनी कमला की कटाक्षमाला मेरा कल्याण करे।।5।।

* जैसे मेघों की घटा में बिजली चमकती है, उसी प्रकार जो कैटभशत्रु श्रीविष्णु के काली मेघमाला के श्यामसुंदर वक्षस्थल पर प्रकाशित होती है, जिन्होंने अपने आविर्भाव से भृगुवंश को आनंदित किया है तथा जो समस्त लोकों की जननी है, उन भगवती लक्ष्मी की पूजनीय मूर्ति मुझे कल्याण प्रदान करे।।6।

* समुद्र कन्या कमला की वह मंद, अलस, मंथर और अर्धोन्मीलित दृष्टि, जिसके प्रभाव से कामदेव ने मंगलमय भगवान मधुसूदन के हृदय में प्रथम बार स्थान प्राप्त किया था, यहां मुझ पर पड़े।।7।।

* भगवान नारायण की प्रेयसी लक्ष्मी का नेत्र रूपी मेघ दयारूपी अनुकूल पवन से प्रेरित हो दुष्कर्म (धनागम विरोधी अशुभ प्रारब्ध) रूपी धाम को चिरकाल के लिए दूर हटाकर विषाद रूपी धर्मजन्य ताप से पीड़ित मुझ दीन रूपी चातक पर धनरूपी जलधारा की वृष्टि करें।।8।।

* विशिष्ट बुद्धि वाले मनुष्य जिनके प्रीति पात्र होकर जिस दया दृष्टि के प्रभाव से स्वर्ग पद को सहज ही प्राप्त कर लेते हैं, पद्‍मासना पद्‍मा की वह विकसित कमल-गर्भ के समान कांतिमयी दृष्टि मुझे मनोवांछित पुष्टि प्रदान करें।।9।।

* जो सृष्टि लीला के समय वाग्देवता (ब्रह्मशक्ति) के रूप में विराजमान होती है तथा प्रलय लीला के काल में शाकम्भरी (भगवती दुर्गा) अथवा चन्द्रशेखर वल्लभा पार्वती (रुद्रशक्ति) के रूप में अवस्थित होती है, त्रिभुवन के एकमात्र पिता भगवान नारायण की उन नित्य यौवना प्रेयसी श्रीलक्ष्मीजी को नमस्कार है।।10।।

* मात:। शुभ कर्मों का फल देने वाली श्रुति के रूप में आपको प्रणाम है। रमणीय गुणों की सिंधु रूपा रति के रूप में आपको नमस्कार है। कमल वन में निवास करने वाली शक्ति स्वरूपा लक्ष्मी को नमस्कार है तथा पुष्टि रूपा पुरुषोत्तम प्रिया को नमस्कार है।।11।।

* कमल वदना कमला को नमस्कार है। क्षीरसिंधु सभ्यता श्रीदेवी को नमस्कार है। चंद्रमा और सुधा की सगी बहन को नमस्कार है। भगवान नारायण की वल्लभा को नमस्कार है। ।।12।।

* कमल सदृश नेत्रों वाली माननीय मां ! आपके चरणों में किए गए प्रणाम संपत्ति प्रदान करने वाले, संपूर्ण इंद्रियों को आनंद देने वाले, साम्राज्य देने में समर्थ और सारे पापों को हर लेने के लिए सर्वथा उद्यत हैं, वे सदा मुझे ही अवलम्बन दें। (मुझे ही आपकी चरण वंदना का शुभ अवसर सदा प्राप्त होता रहे)।।13।।

* जिनके कृपा कटाक्ष के लिए की गई उपासना उपासक के लिए संपूर्ण मनोरथों और संपत्तियों का विस्तार करती है, श्रीहरि की हृदयेश्वरी उन्हीं आप लक्ष्मी देवी का मैं मन, वाणी और शरीर से भजन करता हूं।।14।।

* भगवती हरिप्रिया! तुम कमल वन में निवास करने वाली हो, तुम्हारे हाथों में नीला कमल सुशोभित है। तुम अत्यंत उज्ज्वल वस्त्र, गंध और माला आदि से सुशोभित हो। तुम्हारी झांकी बड़ी मनोरम है। त्रिभुवन का ऐश्वर्य प्रदान करने वाली देवी, मुझ पर प्रसन्न हो जाओ।।15।।

* दिग्गजों द्वारा सुवर्ण-कलश के मुख से गिराए गए आकाश गंगा के निर्मल एवं मनोहर जल से जिनके श्री अंगों का अभिषेक (स्नान) संपादित होता है, संपूर्ण लोकों के अधीश्वर भगवान विष्णु की गृहिणी और क्षीरसागर की पुत्री उन जगज्जननी लक्ष्मी को मैं प्रात:काल प्रणाम करता हूं।।16।।

* कमल नयन केशव की कमनीय कामिनी कमले!

मैं अकिंचन (दीन-हीन) मनुष्यों में अग्रगण्य हूं, अतएव तुम्हारी कृपा का स्वाभाविक पात्र हूं। तुम उमड़ती हुई करुणा की बाढ़ की तरह तरंगों के समान कटाक्षों द्वारा मेरी ओर देखो।।17।।

* जो मनुष्य इन स्तु‍तियों द्वारा प्रतिदिन वेदत्रयी स्वरूपा त्रिभुवन-जननी भगवती लक्ष्मी की स्तुति करते हैं, वे इस भूतल पर महान गुणवान और अत्यंत सौभाग्यशाली होते हैं तथा विद्वान पुरुष भी उनके मनोभावों को जानने के लिए उत्सुक रहते हैं।।18।।

​दरिद्रता का नाश होता है यह स्तोत्र विशेष रूप से कर्ज और आर्थिक तंगी दूर करने के लिए अचूक माना जाता है।

Once, while walking through a village seeking alms (Bhiksha), the young Adi Shankaracharya arrived at the doorstep of a miserably poor Brahmin woman's hut. The woman did not have even a single grain of food to offer the holy guest. Deeply saddened and overwhelmed by an agonizing helplessness in her heart, she searched her home and found nothing but a solitary, withered, dry gooseberry (Amla). With pure selflessness, she dropped it into Shankaracharya’s alms bowl.

Witnessing her profound, selfless generosity despite her stark poverty, Shankaracharya’s heart overflowed with intense compassion. At that very moment, he began composing a hymn on the spot to appease Goddess Lakshmi. Moved by his verses, Goddess Lakshmi manifested before him but stated, "This woman is bound by her past Prarabdha (karmic destiny); there is no wealth written in her fate."

Shankaracharya countered the divine law with spiritual logic: "O Mother! Today, she has surrendered her absolute everything (that single dry gooseberry) to me. Is this immense act of selfless virtue not enough to burn away all her past sins?"

Hearing Shankaracharya's profound argument, Goddess Lakshmi was immensely pleased and showered a downpour of solid golden gooseberries inside that impoverished hut. That legendary hymn of praise is revered across the world today as the 'Kanakadhara Stotram.'

May that beautiful, enchanting stream of glances from Lakshmi, the daughter of the ocean, bless me with abundant wealth and prosperity.

Vishvamarendrapadavibhramadanadakshamananda Hetu Radhikam Madhuvidvisho Pi.Ishannishidatu Mayi Kshanamikshanarddhamindivarodara Sahodaramindirayah || 3 ||

Meaning: Her glance is fully capable of granting the supreme royal splendor of Indra's throne to Her devotees, and it brings ever-increasing bliss even to Lord Hari, the slayer of Madhu. May those half-closed eyes of Goddess Lakshmi, which look as enchanting as the deep blue lotus, rest upon me for at least a brief moment.

Meaning: Resting upon the cosmic serpent, Goddess Lakshmi gazes at Lord Mukunda—the root of all bliss—with unblinking, half-closed eyes that are softened by love. Finding Her Beloved so close, Her gaze turns beautifully slanted. May the eyes of Lord Vishnu's consort bestow supreme spiritual and material wealth upon me.

Meaning: Just as a streak of lightning flashes against a canvas of dark rain clouds, Her radiant form illuminates the dark, beautiful chest of Lord Vishnu, the destroyer of Kaitabha. May that worshipful form of Goddess Lakshmi, who brought joy to the Bhrigu lineage and stands as the universal Mother of all creation, grant me auspiciousness.

Praptam Padam Prathamatah Kila Yatप्रभावान्मांगल्य भाजि: मधुमायनि मन्मथेन।

Meaning: It was under the weight of Her gentle glance that Kamadeva (the God of Love) managed to find a permanent home in the heart of the auspicious Lord Madhusudana for the very first time. May that same lazy, slow, half-opened, and mesmerizing gaze of the ocean-born Goddess Lakshmi fall upon me here.

Dadyad Dayanupavano Dravinambudharam Asmibhakinchana Vihanga Shishau Vishanne.

Meaning: We bow to the eternally youthful consort of Lord Narayana, the supreme Guru of the three worlds. During the cosmic play of creation, She manifests as Vagdevi (Saraswati, the power of Brahma); during sustenance, She rules as Lakshmi; and during annihilation, She takes the form of Shakambhari (Durga) or Parvati, the beloved of Lord Shiva.

Shrutyai Namostu Shubhakarmaphala Prasutyai Ratyai Namostu Ramaniya Gunarnavayai.
Shaktyai Namostu Shatapatra Niketanayai Pushtyai Namostu Purushottama Vallabhayai || 11 ||

Meaning: O Mother! I bow to You as the holy Vedas (Shruti) that deliver the fruits of righteous actions. I bow to You as Rati, the ocean of enchanting virtues. I salute You as the ultimate Shakti residing in the lotus forests, and my prostrations to You as Pushti, the eternal fulfiller and beloved of Lord Purushottama.

Yatkatakhasamupasana Vidhih Sevakasya Kalartha Sampadah.
Santanoti Vachanangamanasamsatvam Murarihridayeshvarim Bhaje || 14 ||

Dagdhistimih Kanakumbhamukha Va Srishtisvarvahini Vimalacharu Jala Plutangim.Pratarnamami Jagatam Jananimashesha Lokadhinatha Grihinimamritabdhiputriim || 16 ||

Meaning: In the early hours of the morning, I offer my prostrations to the universal Mother of all worlds, the wife of Lord Vishnu, and the daughter of the ocean of nectar.
