एक संत एक छोटे से आश्रम का संचालन करते थे। एक दिन पास के रास्ते से एक राहगीर को पकड़कर अंदर ले आए और शिष्यों के सामने उससे प्रश्न किया कि यदि तुम्हें सोने की अशर्फियों की थैली रास्ते में पड़ी मिल जाए तो तुम क्या करोगे ?
वह आदमी बोला - "तत्क्षण उसके मालिक का पता लगाकर उसे वापस कर दूंगा अन्यथा राजकोष में जमा करा दूंगा।"
संत हंसे और राहगीर को विदा कर शिष्यों से बोले -" यह आदमी मूर्ख है।"
शिष्य बड़े हैरान कि गुरुजी क्या कह रहे हैं ? इस आदमी ने ठीक ही तो कहा है तथा सभी को ही यह सिखाया गया है कि ऐसे किसी परायी वस्तु को ग्रहण नहीं करना चाहिए।
थोड़ी देर बाद फिर संत किसी दूसरे को अंदर ले आए और उससे भी वही प्रश्न दोहरा दिया।
उस दूसरे राहगीर ने उत्तर दिया कि क्या मुझे निरा मूर्ख समझ रखा है ?, जो स्वर्ण मुद्राएं पड़ी मिलें और मैं लौटाने के लिए मालिक को खोजता फिरूं? तुमने मुझे समझा क्या है ?
वह राहगीर जब चला गया तो संत ने कहा -" यह व्यक्ति शैतान है।
शिष्य बड़े हैरान हुए कि पहला मूर्ख और दूसरा शैतान, फिर गुरुजी चाहते क्या हैं ?
अबकी बार संत तीसरे राहगीर को पकड़कर अंदर ले आए और वही प्रश्न दोहराया।
राहगीर ने बड़ी सज्जनता से उत्तर दिया--" महाराज! अभी तो कहना बड़ा मुश्किल है।इस चाण्डाल मन का क्या भरोसा, कब धोखा दे जाए ? एक क्षण की खबर नहीं। यदि परमात्मा की कृपा रही और सद्बुद्धि बनी रही तो लौटा दूंगा।"
संत बोले -
" यह आदमी सच्चा है। इसने अपनी डोर परमात्मा को सौंप रखी है। ऐसे व्यक्तियों द्वारा कभी गलत निर्णय नहीं होता।
ज्येष्ठ पांडव, सूर्यपुत्र कर्ण कर्म, धर्म का ज्ञाता, क्या कारण था की अपने छोटे भाई अर्जुन से हार गया जबकि कर्म और धर्म दोनों में वो अर्जुन से श्रेष्ठ था। कारण था कि अर्जुन ने अपनी घर से निकलने से पहले ही अपनी जीवन रथ की डोरी,भगवान श्री कृष्ण के हाथ में दे दी थी।
आपको हमें भी इसी प्रकार अपने मन तथा जीवन की डोर प्रभु के हाथ में दे देनी चाहिए।
विश्वास कीजिए जितने भी उतार-चढ़ाव आएंगे जीवन में लेश मात्र भी अंतर नहीं पड़ेगा इसीलिए सदैव कहता हूँ कि जो प्राप्त है-पर्याप्त है!!

A saint ran a small ashram. One day, he brought in a passerby from a nearby path and, in the presence of his disciples, posed a question to him: "If you were to find a pouch full of gold coins lying on the road, what would you do?"
The man replied, "I would immediately locate its owner and return it; otherwise, I would deposit it into the royal treasury."
The saint laughed, bade the passerby farewell, and remarked to his disciples, "This man is a fool."
The disciples were utterly bewildered by what their Guru was saying. Hadn't the man spoken exactly as he should have? Furthermore, hadn't they all been taught that one must never appropriate an object belonging to another?
A short while later, the saint brought another person inside and repeated the very same question.
The second passerby retorted, "Do you take me for a complete idiot? If I were to find gold coins lying around, would I go wandering about in search of an owner to return them to? What kind of person do you think I am?"
Once that passerby had departed, the saint declared, "This man is a devil."
The disciples were left even more perplexed: the first was a fool, the second a devil—what, then, did their Guru actually desire?
This time, the saint brought in a third passerby and repeated the question once again.
The passerby replied with great humility, "Maharaj! It is very difficult to say right now. Who can trust this fickle mind of ours? When might it betray us? One cannot predict what the very next moment holds. If God's grace remains with me, and if I retain my good sense, then—and only then—will I return it."
The saint smiled and said:
"This man is a truthful soul. He has surrendered the reins of his life entirely into the hands of God. Such individuals never make a wrong decision.
Consider the eldest of the Pandavas—the Sun-born Karna—a profound scholar of both *Karma* (action) and *Dharma* (righteous duty). What, then, was the reason he was defeated by his younger brother, Arjuna—despite being superior to him in both action and righteousness? The reason was that Arjuna, even before stepping out of his home, had placed the reins of his life's chariot into the hands of Lord Krishna.
You—and indeed all of us—should do likewise: surrender the reins of your mind and your life into the hands of the Lord." Believe me—no matter how many ups and downs life brings, it will not make even the slightest difference. That is why I always say: what you have is enough!
