ब्राह्मण और शनिदेव की लीला | The Brahmin and the Divine Play of Shani Dev.

एक ब्राह्मण को सपने में नीले रंग की घोड़ी पर नीले कपड़े पहने एक आदमी दिखाई देता है और कहता है – हे ब्राह्मण देवता मैं तेरे लगूंगा। ब्राह्मण घबरा कर उठ गया। अगले दिन यही सपना उसे फिर आता है। यह सपना उसे रोज आने लगा । वह परेशान हो गया और चिंता के मारे दुबला होने लगा। उसकी पत्नी ने कारण पूछा तो उसने सपने के बारे में बताया। ब्राह्मणी बोली वे अवश्य ही शनि महाराज होंगे। अबकी बार दिखे तो कहना ” लग जाओ पर सवा पहर से ज्यादा मत लगना ” उस दिन सपना आने पर ब्राह्मण ने कहा लग जाओ पर कितने समय के लिए लगोगे ? शनि जी बोले – साढ़े सात वर्ष का लगूंगा। ब्राह्मण ने कहा – क्षमा करें शनि जी इतना भारी तो मुझसे झेला नहीं जायेगा। तब शनि जी बोले – तो पांच वर्ष का लग जाऊंगा। ब्राह्मण बोला – यह भी मेरे लिए ज्यादा है। शनि जी बोले – ढ़ाई साल का लग जाऊं ? ब्राह्मण ने मना किया तो शनि जी कहने लगे सवा पहर का तो लगूंगा ही। इतना तो कोढ़ी , कलंगी , भिखारी के भी लग जाता हूँ। तब ब्राह्मण ने कहा – ठीक है। ब्राह्मण को सवा पहर की शनि की दशा लग गई।
ब्राह्मण ने नींद से जागकर ब्राह्मणी से कहा – मेरे सवा पहर शनि की दशा लग गई है। इसलिए मैं जंगल में जाकर यह समय बिताऊंगा। मेरे लिए खाने पीने का सामान बांध दे। मेरे पीछे से किसी से लड़ाई झगड़ा ना हो इसका ध्यान रखना । ज्यादातर घर में ही रहना। बच्चों का भी ध्यान रखना। इस सवा पहर के समय में कोई गाली भी दे तो चुपचाप सुन लेना। बहस मत करना। यह सब समझा कर ब्राह्मण जंगल में चला गया।
जंगल में ब्राह्मण एक पीपल के पेड़ के नीचे बैठ गया और हनुमान जी का पाठ करने लगा। एक पहर बीत गया। ब्राह्मण ने सोचा बाकि बचा समय रास्ते में बीत जायेगा। इसलिए वहां से चल दिया। रास्ते में एक बाड़ी में मतीरे लगे देखे। माली से एक मतीरा खरीदा , पोटली में बांधा और आगे बढ़ा।
आगे एक आदमी मिला जो असल में शनिदेव थे। ब्राह्मण से पूछा पोटली में क्या है ? उसने कहा मतीरा है। शनि देव बोले दिखाओ। ब्राह्मण ने पोटली खोली। उसमे राजकुमार का कटा हुआ खून से लथपथ सिर दिखा। शनिदेव ब्राह्मण को राजा के पास ले गए और कहा की इस ब्राह्मण ने राजकुमार की हत्या कर दी है। इसके पास पोटली में राजकुमार का सिर है।
राजा ने कहा – मैं यह नहीं देख सकता। इस ब्राह्मण को सूली पर चढ़ा दो। राजा के यहाँ हाहाकार मच गया। ब्राह्मण को सूली पर चढ़ाने से पहले पूछा गया की उसकी कोई आखिरी इच्छा हो तो बताये। ब्राह्मण ने सोचा किसी तरह सवा पहर पूरा करना होगा। उसने कहा वह रोज बालाजी की कथा सुनता है। मरने से पहले अंतिम बार बाला जी की कथा सुनना चाहता हूँ। ब्राह्मण को कथा सुनाने का प्रबंध किया गया।
कथा कहते कहते सवा पहर पूरा हो गया। शनि की दशा टलते ही राजकुमार शिकार खेल कर लौटता हुआ दिखाई दिया। राजकुमार को आता देख राजा बहुत खुश हुआ। लेकिन उसे निर्दोष ब्राह्मण की हत्या का दोष लगने का डर सताने लगा। उसने तुरंत घुड़सवार सैनिकों को ब्राह्मण को आदर सहित ले आने के लिए भेजा। ब्राह्मण राजदरबार में आया तो राजा ने क्षमा मांगी और पोटली दिखाने के लिए कहा। पोटली खोली तो उसमे मतीरा था।
राजा ने इन सबके बारे में पूछा तो ब्राह्मण ने बताया – मुझे सवा पहर की शनिश्चर की दशा लगी थी इस कारण यह सब तमाशा हुआ। राजा ने पूछा – यह दशा कैसे टलती है ? ब्राह्मण बोला – राजा या सेठ के लगे तो काला हाथी या काला घोड़ा दान करे। गरीब के लगे तो पीपल की पूजा करे। पूजा करे तब बोले – साँचा शनिश्चर कहिये जाके पाँव सदा ही पड़िए। शनि की कहानी सुने। तिल का तेल और काला उड़द दान करे।
काले कुत्ते को तेल से चुपड़ कर रोटी खिलाये तो शनिश्चर की दशा उतर जाती है। राजा ने उसे मतीरा वापस दे दिया। घर आकर ब्राह्मण ने मतीरा काटा तो उसमे बीज की जगह हीरे मोती निकले। ब्राह्मणी ने पूछा – यह कहाँ से लाये ? आप तो कह रहे थे शनि की दशा लगी है। ब्राह्मण ने कहा – जब दशा लगी थी तो यही मतीरा राजकुमार का सिर बन गया था। उतरती दशा के शनि जी निहाल कर गए।
हे शनि देवता जैसी ब्राह्मण के शनि की दशा लगी वैसी किसी को ना लगे। निहाल सबको करे।

A Brahmin once saw a strange dream. In the dream, a man dressed in blue clothes and riding a blue mare appeared before him and said, “O Brahmin, I shall afflict you.” The Brahmin woke up frightened. The next day, he saw the same dream again. Soon, the dream began to occur every night. He became deeply worried and started growing thin from anxiety.
His wife asked him the reason for his distress, and he told her about the dream. The Brahmin’s wife said, “That must surely be Lord Shani (Saturn). The next time he appears, tell him: ‘You may afflict me, but not for more than one and a quarter pahar (about 3 hours).’”
That night, when the dream appeared again, the Brahmin said, “You may afflict me, but for how long?”
Shani Dev replied, “I shall afflict you for seven and a half years.”
The Brahmin folded his hands and said, “Forgive me, Lord Shani, I cannot endure such a heavy burden.”
Then Shani Dev said, “Then I shall afflict you for five years.”
The Brahmin replied, “That is still too much for me.”
Shani Dev asked, “Shall I afflict you for two and a half years then?”
Again the Brahmin refused.
Finally, Shani Dev said, “At least one and a quarter pahar I must afflict you for. Even lepers, beggars, and the poor must endure that much from me.”The Brahmin agreed. Thus, the period of Shani’s influence for one and a quarter pahar began for him.
The Brahmin woke up and told his wife, “My period of Shani’s influence has begun. I will go into the forest and spend this time there. Pack some food and water for me. Make sure there are no quarrels at home in my absence. Stay indoors as much as possible, take care of the children, and even if someone insults you, remain silent and do not argue.”
After giving these instructions, the Brahmin went into the forest. There, he sat under a peepal tree and began reciting prayers to Lord Hanuman. One pahar passed. Thinking the remaining time would pass while walking home, he started back.
On the way, he saw some watermelons growing in a garden. He bought one from the gardener, tied it in a cloth bundle, and continued walking.
Further ahead, he met a man who was actually Lord Shani in disguise. The man asked, “What is in your bundle?”
The Brahmin replied, “A watermelon.”
Shani Dev said, “Show it to me.”
The Brahmin opened the bundle, but instead of a watermelon, there appeared the severed, blood-soaked head of the prince.
Shani Dev immediately took the Brahmin to the king and accused him, saying, “This Brahmin has murdered the prince. The prince’s head is in his bundle.”
The king was horrified and ordered, “I cannot bear to see this. Hang the Brahmin at once!”
Chaos spread through the palace. Before the execution, the Brahmin was asked if he had any last wish. He thought somehow he must survive until the one and a quarter pahar ended. So he said, “Every day I listen to the sacred story of Balaji (Hanuman Ji). Before dying, I wish to hear it one last time.”
Seeing the prince alive, the king was overjoyed. But then he feared the sin of having ordered the execution of an innocent Brahmin. He immediately sent horsemen to respectfully bring the Brahmin back.
When the Brahmin arrived in court, the king apologized and asked to see the bundle again. This time, when the bundle was opened, it contained only the watermelon.
The king asked the Brahmin to explain everything. The Brahmin said, “I was under the influence of Shani for one and a quarter pahar, and because of that all this illusion occurred.”
The king then asked, “How can such an affliction be removed?”
The Brahmin answered, “If it affects a king or a wealthy man, they should donate a black elephant or a black horse. If it affects a poor person, they should worship the peepal tree and pray:
‘Speak truthfully of Shani Dev and always bow at his feet.’
One should listen to the story of Shani Dev, donate sesame oil and black gram, and feed bread smeared with oil to a black dog. By doing this, the affliction of Shani is removed.”
The king returned the watermelon to the Brahmin. When the Brahmin reached home and cut it open, instead of seeds, it was filled with diamonds and pearls.
His wife asked, “Where did you get this? Weren’t you saying you were under Shani’s influence?”
The Brahmin replied, “When the bad phase was active, this very watermelon appeared as the prince’s severed head. But when the phase ended, Lord Shani blessed us greatly.”
“O Lord Shani, may no one suffer such hardship as the Brahmin did, and may you bless everyone.”
