हनुमान जी और कंजूस सेठ की कहानी
एक समय की बात है, एक बहुत अमीर सेठ था। उसके पास धन की कोई कमी नहीं थी, लेकिन वह स्वभाव से बहुत बड़ा कंजूस था। वह हनुमान जी का बड़ा भक्त होने का दावा करता था, लेकिन जब भी दान या प्रसाद की बात आती, तो उसका हाथ पीछे खिंच जाता था।
एक बार सेठ का व्यापार घाटे में जाने लगा। घबराकर वह हनुमान जी के मंदिर पहुँचा और मन्नत मांगी— "हे बजरंगबली! यदि इस बार मेरा डूबा हुआ पैसा वापस मिल गया और मुझे बड़ा मुनाफा हुआ, तो मैं आपको एक किलो शुद्ध देसी घी के लड्डू चढ़ाऊंगा और पूरे गाँव को भोजन कराऊंगा।"
हनुमान जी की कृपा हुई और सेठ को उम्मीद से दोगुना मुनाफा हुआ। लेकिन जैसे ही काम बन गया, सेठ की कंजूसी फिर जाग गई।
सेठ सोचने लगा— "एक किलो घी के लड्डू बहुत महंगे पड़ेंगे। और पूरे गाँव को भोजन? इसमें तो मेरी आधी कमाई चली जाएगी। हनुमान जी तो भगवान हैं, उन्हें लड्डू की क्या जरूरत? वे तो भाव के भूखे हैं।"
उसने एक तरकीब निकाली। वह बाजार गया और सबसे घटिया और सस्ती मिठाई का एक छोटा सा टुकड़ा खरीदा। वह मंदिर गया और हनुमान जी की मूर्ति के सामने उसे रखते हुए बोला— "प्रभु, आपने मेरा काम किया, उसके लिए धन्यवाद। यह रहा आपका प्रसाद। बाकी भोजन वाली बात... तो प्रभु, आप तो जानते ही हैं कि आजकल महंगाई कितनी बढ़ गई है, आप तो अंतर्यामी हैं!"
हनुमान जी सेठ की चालाकी देख मुस्कुराने लगे। उन्होंने सेठ को सबक सिखाने की सोची। जैसे ही सेठ मंदिर से बाहर निकलने लगा, हनुमान जी एक साधारण बालक का रूप धरकर उसके सामने आ गए।
बालक ने सेठ का कुर्ता पकड़ लिया और कहा— "सेठ जी, मुझे बहुत भूख लगी है। आपने अभी जो मिठाई भगवान को चढ़ाई, क्या वह मुझे मिल सकती है?"
सेठ ने झिड़कते हुए कहा— "हट छोकरे! यह भगवान का प्रसाद है, ऐसे ही किसी को नहीं दिया जाता।"
बालक बोला— "सेठ जी, आपने तो वादा किया था कि आप पूरे गाँव को जिमाएंगे, मुझे तो बस एक टुकड़ा चाहिए।"
सेठ घबरा गया कि इस बालक को मेरे वादे के बारे में कैसे पता? उसने बालक को भगाने की कोशिश की, लेकिन अचानक उसे महसूस हुआ कि उसका हाथ उसके अपने ही कुर्ते से चिपक गया है। वह जितना जोर लगाता, उसके पैर जमीन में धंसते चले जाते।

तभी उस बालक के शरीर से तेज प्रकाश निकलने लगा और हनुमान जी अपने वास्तविक रूप में प्रकट हुए। हनुमान जी ने कड़कती आवाज में कहा— "सेठ! मुझे तेरे लड्डू या छप्पन भोग की जरूरत नहीं है। लेकिन जो भक्त अपनी सुख-सुविधा के लिए भगवान से झूठ बोलता है और अपनी सामर्थ्य होने पर भी कंजूसी करता है, उसकी भक्ति निष्फल होती है।"
सेठ को अपनी गलती का एहसास हो गया। वह हनुमान जी के चरणों में गिर पड़ा और रोने लगा। उसने तुरंत अपना अहंकार और कंजूसी त्यागी।
सेठ ने उसी दिन सवा मन (भारी मात्रा में) लड्डुओं का भोग लगवाया और न केवल अपने गाँव को, बल्कि आसपास के कई गांवों के गरीबों को भरपेट भोजन कराया। तब जाकर उसका मन शांत हुआ और उसे वास्तविक सुख की प्राप्ति हुई।
इस कहानी की सीख
भगवान को आपके पैसे की जरूरत नहीं है, लेकिन वे आपके वादे और आपकी नीयत को जरूर देखते हैं। "भक्ति में छल, और दान में कंजूसी" कभी फलीभूत नहीं होती।

The Story of Lord Hanuman and the Miserly Seth
Once upon a time, there was a very wealthy merchant (Seth). He had no shortage of money, but by nature, he was extremely miserly. He claimed to be a great devotee of Lord Hanuman, but whenever it came to charity or offering food (prasad), he would hesitate and hold back.
One day, his business started suffering losses. Worried, he went to a temple of Lord Hanuman and made a vow:
“O Bajrangbali! If I recover my lost money and earn a big profit this time, I will offer you one kilogram of pure desi ghee laddoos and feed the entire village.”
By Lord Hanuman’s grace, the Seth earned double the profit he had expected. But as soon as his problem was solved, his miserliness returned.
He began to think, “One kilogram of ghee laddoos will be very expensive. And feeding the whole village? That will take away half my earnings! Lord Hanuman is God—why would He need laddoos? He only cares about devotion.”
So, he came up with a trick. He went to the market and bought a very cheap and low-quality piece of sweet. He went to the temple, placed it in front of Lord Hanuman’s idol, and said,
“Lord, thank you for helping me. Here is your offering. As for feeding the village… well, you know how expensive things have become these days. You are all-knowing!”
Seeing his cleverness, Lord Hanuman smiled and decided to teach him a lesson. As the Seth was leaving the temple, Lord Hanuman appeared before him in the form of a simple young boy.
The boy held the Seth’s kurta and said,
“Seth ji, I am very hungry. Can I have the sweet you just offered to God?”
The Seth scolded him and said,
“Go away! This is God’s offering. It is not given to just anyone like that.”
The boy replied,
“But Seth ji, you had promised to feed the entire village. I only want a small piece.”
The Seth became nervous—how did this boy know about his promise? He tried to drive the boy away, but suddenly he realized that his hand was stuck to his own kurta. The more he struggled, the more his feet began to sink into the ground.
Just then, a bright light began to radiate from the boy’s body, and Lord Hanuman appeared in His true form. In a powerful voice, He said:
“Seth! I do not need your laddoos or grand feasts. But a devotee who lies to God for personal comfort and acts miserly despite having the means—his devotion is meaningless.”
The Seth realized his mistake. He fell at Lord Hanuman’s feet and began to cry. He immediately gave up his ego and miserliness.
That very day, he offered a large quantity of laddoos and not only fed his entire village but also provided a full meal to the poor from nearby villages. Only then did he find peace and true happiness.
Moral of the Story
God does not need your money, but He does see your promises and your intentions.
Deceit in devotion and miserliness in charity never bear fruit.
