According to Vastu Shastra, the direction and design of your staircase play a crucial role in the overall energy of your home. One common question is whether stairs should be clockwise or anticlockwise. Vastu generally favors clockwise movement for staircases. This means that when ascending the stairs, you should be turning to your right. This is believed to align with the natural flow of energy, promoting positive vibrations and prosperity within the house.

Clockwise staircases are thought to symbolize progress and upward movement, both literally and metaphorically. They are considered auspicious, bringing good fortune and positive outcomes. Conversely, anticlockwise staircases (turning left as you go up) are often seen as less favorable, potentially leading to stagnation, setbacks, or even health issues for the residents.
While clockwise is preferred, the specific placement of the staircase within the house is equally important according to Vastu. Southeast and Northwest corners are generally considered suitable locations. Avoid placing the staircase in the Northeast corner, as this is considered a highly sacred area of the house. Additionally, ensure the stairs are not directly visible from the main entrance.
Ultimately, consulting with a Vastu expert is recommended for personalized guidance based on your specific home layout. They can assess the existing structure and suggest the most auspicious placement and direction for your staircase to harmonize with the overall energy of your living space.
