मंगल एक न्यायप्रिय ग्रह है और मेष लग्न वालों के लिए अपने मित्र बृहस्पति के धनु राशि में होने से इसका न्यायप्रिय होना और भी बढ़ जाता है। लेकिन बहुत-से ज्योतिष के ग्रंथों में मंगल नौवें के बारे में जो वर्णन किया है उससे वास्तव में बहुत हालातों में मंगल के साथ एक तरह का अन्याय हुआ है। महऋषि पाराशर के अनुसार नौवें घर का मंगल अनर्थ करता है तथा पाप-कर्म में उस व्यक्ति की रुचि होती है। समझ में नहीं आता है कि इस तरह की बात किस हेतु को लेकर की गई है। यहाँ पर नौवाँ घर बृहस्पति की राशि है और वह मंगल का मित्र है। ऐसा मंगल लग्न से भी नवम् स्थान में आता है। इस तरह मंगल पर पाप-कर्म का दोष लगाना कुछ अन्याय ही प्रतीत होता है। यदि हम ध्यान से देखें तो इस धनु राशि में आया हुआ मंगल बहुत अशुभ फल नहीं देता। हाँ, वह बात और है कि किसी कारण से मंगल बहुत अशुभ हो जाए तो इसके अच्छे फलों में कमी आ सकती है। धनु राशि में मंगल होने से आदमी में एक विशेष प्रकार की बुद्धि पैदा होती है। वह अच्छा राजनीतिज्ञ भी बन सकता है। लेकिन, यहाँ पर मंगल होने से व्यक्ति जरूरत से ज्यादा स्पष्ट वक्ता होता है। कई दफा यह जरूर देखने में आया है कि उसके स्पष्ट वक्ता होने के कारण, बहुत-से लोग उसे अभिमानी भी समझ लेते हैं। इसका कारण यह है कि वो जो है; जो सोचता है, जो उसका विचार है उसे दूसरों के आगे प्रगट करने में किसी प्रकार की चालाकी नहीं करता । मंगल के शुभ प्रभाव को 'जातक परिजात' में ठीक ढंग से नहीं समझा गया है। सर्वश्रेष्ठ अंकशास्त्री के अनुसर है कि इस घर में मंगल होने से व्यक्ति दराचारी, पौरुष हीन, नीच लोगों के साथ रहने वाला, क्रूर तथा कपटी होता है। इस विचार से सहमत होना बहुत मुश्किल लगता है। क्योंकि नौवें घर में बृहस्पति की राशि में बैठा हुआ मंगल किसी भी प्रकार से इस बात का हेत नहीं बनता कि वह व्यक्ति नीच लोगों के साथ रहेगा और पौरुषहीन होगा। इसलिए क्योंकि वह अपने मित्र ग्रह की राशि में है। यदि वह बुध की राशि में होता या शुक्र की राशि में होता तब शायद मंगल पर इस तरह का इल्जाम लगाना ठीक था। लेकिन इस घर में मंगल के बारे में इस तरह के विचार प्रकट करना समझ में नहीं आता। व्यक्ति का क्रूर होना भी इस स्थान के मंगल पर लागू नहीं होता। तेरहवीं शताब्दी के एक प्रसिद्ध ज्योतिष ग्रंथ 'यवन जातक' में कहा गया है कि इस घर में मंगल होने से वह व्यक्ति राजमान्य होता है। वह विख्यात होता है। भाग्यवान तथा अपने ग्राम में रहकर सुखी होता है। इन विचारों से सहमत होना ही पड़ेगा। यहाँ अपने गाँव में सुखी रहने का वास्तव में अर्थ यह है कि नौवाँ घर हमारे बुजुर्गों और हमारे परिवार से संबंध रखता है। यदि वह व्यक्ति अपने बुजुर्गों से मिलता रहे, यानी अपने माँ-बाप से, बड़े भाई-बहनों से या उनके साथ रहे या उसी स्थान पर रहे तो इससे भी उसके 'भाग्योदय' में काफी सहायता मिलती है। ज्योतिष ग्रंथ 'बृहद् यवन जातक' में यह भी कहा गया है कि नौवें घर में मंगल होने से, व्यक्ति के अट्ठाईसवें वर्ष में विशेषतौर से उसका भाग्योदय होता है। इस विचार को लाल किताब में भी इसी रूप से प्रकट किया गया है। लाल किताब के अनुसार नौवें घर में मंगल होने से यदि वह व्यक्ति अपने बड़े भाई या भाइयों की ताबेदारी में रहे; उनकी आज्ञा का पालन करे और उनका आशीर्वाद लेता रहे तो वह हर प्रकार से सुखी रहेगा। इसके अलावा धर्म पर विश्वास करना भी इस मंगल को बहुत शक्तिशाली बना देगा। वह व्यक्ति नास्तिक न बने और अपने परिवार के रीति-रिवाज तथा पुरानी रस्मों का पालन करे या मंदिर आदि में सिर झुकाकर परमात्मा को याद करता रहे तो उसके भाग्य में एक विशेष प्रकार का योगदान मिलता है। इस भाव में मंगल के साथ बृहस्पति का होना गृहस्थ सुख तथा शांति को बढ़ाता है। परिवार में अचानक मुसीबतें नहीं आतीं। आर्थिक तौर पर भी इसका फल शुभ ही रहता है। इस घर में मंगल के साथ सूर्य होने से, व्यक्ति अपने परिवार के मुकाबले में ज्यादा तरक्की करता है। वह जिस समाज में भी रहता है, वहाँ उसे सम्मान प्राप्त होता है। इसका कारण यह है कि मेष लग्न वालों के लिए यहाँ बृहस्पति की धनु राशि आती है तथा लाल किताब के अनुसार भी यह वैसे भी बृहस्पति का पक्का घर है। इसलिए यहाँ सूर्य और मंगल, दोनों ग्रहों के असर शुभ हो जाने से, जातक का भाग्य अच्छा रहता है। इस स्थान पर मंगल के साथ चंद्रमा एक साथ होने से, जातक को शुभ असर देता है, किंतु आदमी में कई बार गलत तरीकों से धन कमाने की इच्छा बनी रहती है। इस युति से ननिहाल परिवार पर शुभ असर पड़ता है। इस भाव में मंगल के साथ शुक्र का होना जातक के लिए किसी-न-किसी रूप में अशुभ ही रहता है। इसका कारण यह है कि यहाँ शुक्र, बृहस्पति के घर में बैठकर बृहस्पति को अशुभ कर देता है इसलिए नवम् भाव अर्थात् भाग्य स्थान जातक को पूरा फल नहीं देता। कई बार इसका अशुभ प्रभाव पत्नी के स्वास्थ्य पर भी पड़ता है। यदि पत्नी का स्वास्थ्य ठीक न रहता हो तो पत्नी अपने भाइयों से मिली खाने की चीजें या दवाइयाँ खाए तो यह उसके स्वास्थ्य के लिए अच्छा फल देगा। इस घर में मंगल के साथ बुध का होना आमतौर पर बुरा फल देता है। आदमी के भाग्य की वृद्धि में कई प्रकार की अड़चनें आती हैं। जातक को अपनी बुआ, बहन या लड़की को लेकर भी मन में किसी-न-किसी तरह की चिंता बनी रहने की संभावनाएँ रहती हैं। यहाँ मंगल के साथ शनि होने से जातक के लिए बहुत अच्छा फल देती है। व्यक्ति को गृहस्थ सुख संपूर्ण रूप से मिलता है तथा आर्थिक तौर पर भी जातक के जीवन में कोई विशेष प्रकार की अड़चनें नहीं आतीं। यदि ऐसा व्यक्ति अपने घर में यज्ञ करवाता रहे या घर में जन्मदिन आदि पर उत्सव मनाता रहे तो इससे उसकी किस्मत को पूरी तरह जागने में सहायता मिलती है। इस घर में मंगल के साथ राहु का होना व्यक्ति के भाग्य में कोई विशेष प्रकार की अड़चनें तो पैदा नहीं करता, किंतु इस युति का थोड़ा-बहुत अशुभ प्रभाव पिता पर अवश्य पड़ता है। इस घर में मंगल के साथ केतु होने से जातक के लिए अच्छा असर ही देता है। इसका कारण यह है कि बृहस्पति के पक्के नवम् घर तथा बृहस्पति की ही राशि में बैठे हुए ये दोनों ग्रह जो बृहस्पति के मित्र भी हैं, इसलिए जातक के भाग्य संबंधित फल को शुभ करते हैं।
