ज्योतिष के प्राचीन ग्रंथ जातक-परिजात में कहा गया है कि- आठवें घर में मंगल हो तो वह व्यक्ति धनवान और लोगों में प्रमुख होता है। ज्योतिष का एक महान् ग्रंथ 'सारावली' है जिसे नौवीं शताब्दी में लिखा गया था। इसके रचनाकार कल्याण वर्मा का विचार है कि-आठवें घर में मंगल होने से वह व्यक्ति रोगग्रस्त, अल्पआयु, शरीर अच्छा न होना व दुराचारी होता है। हम दोनों ग्रंथों का सम्मान करते हैं। किंतु एक ही घर में एक ग्रह के होने के फल कथन में इस तरह का अंतर, एक संजीदगी से सोचने वाली बात है। असल में बात यह है कि-एक ग्रह शुभ है या अशुभ, उसकी परिभाषा देना किसी भी ग्रह को समझने में सबसे ज्यादा सहायक है। मेरे अपने विचार में, जो विभिन्न ग्रंथों से लिया हुआ विचार है कि मेष लग्न वालों के लिए यदि आठवें घर में अकेला मंगल हो तो वह शुभ होगा, क्योंकि आठवें घर में मंगल की वृश्चिक राशि आती है। दूसरी स्थिति यह है कि यदि उस जन्म-पत्रिका में सूर्य और बुध मह दोनों एक साथ बैठे हों तो मंगल शुभ होगा। आठवें घर का मंगल अशुभ हो जाएगा, यदि मंगल के साथ बुध हो या बुध की दृष्टि मंगल पर पड़ती हो। एक अन्य स्थिति यह है कि-यदि उस जन्म-पत्रिका में सूर्य और शनि ग्रह एक साथ बैठे हैं, तो मंगल अशुभफल देगा। यहाँ पर 'जातक परिजात' का कथन शुभ मंगल के लिए ठीक है। लेकिन,  एशिया के सर्वश्रेष्ठ ज्योतिषी के अनुसार मत यानी व्यक्ति का रोगग्रस्त होना, अल्पआयु होना, दुराचारी होना, यह ठीक नहीं है। वास्तव में आदमी के दुराचारी होने का मंगल से इतना संबंध नहीं है। मेष लग्न वालों के लिए, वृश्चिक राशि में बैठा हुआ मंगल अष्टमेश और लग्नेश होते हुए वह अशुभ नहीं रह जाता। मेरे देखने में आया है कि मेष लग्न वालों के लिए अष्टम स्थान का मंगल यदि शुभ है, जैसा कि मैंने शुभ मंगल की परिभाषा दी है तो वह कोई बुरा फल नहीं देता। कुछ हालातों में यह मंगल व्यक्ति को राजनीतिज्ञ भी बना देता है या उसका राजनीति से संबंध हो तो उस स्थिति में भी अच्छा फल देता है। इसी तरह से शुभ मंगल उस व्यक्ति पर जल्दी कोई लांछन नहीं आने देता। एक तरह से यह मंगल सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा बनाए रखता है। ऐसे मंगल वाले अफसर यदि रिश्वत आदि लेते हो तो उनके पकड़े जाने की संभावना बहुत हद तक कम रहती है। हमारे प्राचीन ज्योतिषी नारायण भट्ट ने अपने महान् ज्योतिष पंथ 'चमत्कार चिंतामणि' में लिखा है कि आठवें घर में मंगल होने से मित्र भी शत्रु जैसा व्यवहार करते हैं। इसी विचार को एक और ज्योतिषी श्री जागेश्वर ने अपने एक ग्रंथ में प्रकट किया है कि इस घर में मंगल होने से अपने ही लोग शत्र के समान व्यवहार करते हैं या उनका व्यवहार मित्रतापूर्ण नहीं रहता। इस बात को समझने के लिए पहले हमें यह देखना होगा कि आठवें घर के मंगल का हमारे दोस्तों से; दूसरे लोगों से; हमारे जानने वालों से क्या संबंध है? वास्तव में देखा जाए तो आठवें घर का मंगल अपनी चौथी दृष्टि से ग्यारहवें घर को देखता है; और ग्यारहवाँ घर हमारे मित्रों का या जिन लोगों से हमारा वास्ता पड़ता है, उन लोगों का कारक है, इसीलिए आठवें घर के मंगल के बारे में उपरोक्त विचार बहुत हद तक ठीक प्रतीत होता है। लेकिन यह विचार उसी हालात में ठीक समझा जाएगा, जब मंगल अशुभ हो, किंतु शुभ मंगल होने से वह व्यक्ति दूसरों की सहायता अपने जीवन में अवश्य पाएगा या दूसरे मित्र या सगे-संबंधी, उसके जीवन में एक तरह से शुभ योगदान ही देंगे। ज्योतिष के एक प्राचीन ग्रंथ 'होरा मकरत' में वर्णन किया गया है कि आठवें घर में मंगल होने से उस व्यक्ति के पुत्र संतान कम होती है। वास्तव में, आठवें घर के मंगल का पुत्रों से या संतति से कोई विशेष संबंध नहीं है। न तो आठवाँ घर औलाद का कारक है और न ही मंगल व्यक्ति के पुत्रों का कारक है। इसके बारे में, हमें लाल किताब के विचारों पर ज्यादा ध्यान देने की जरूरत है। लाल किताब में एक फरमान में यह कहा गया है कि-आठवें घर में मंगल होने से उस व्यक्ति व उसके छोटे भाई की आयु में आमतौर से चार वर्ष से लेकर आठ वर्ष का अंतर होगा। यानी उसका छोटा भाई चार साल बाद या आठ साल बाद पैदा होगा और कुछ हालतों में छोटा भाई होता ही नहीं। यहाँ मंगल छोटे भाइयों के लिए अशुभ फल देता है। मगर उस व्यक्ति की अपनी आठ या चार वर्ष की आयु से पहले या अपने से छोटे भाई की आठ वर्ष की उम्र के बाद कोई और भाई जीवित हो तो वो पूरे परिवार के लिए कष्टकारक सिद्ध होगा, अथवा ऐसे व्यक्ति का जन्म उस परिवार में मातम की निशानी होगा। इस घर के मंगल के अशुभप्रभाव को दूर करने के लिए लाल किताब में एक उपाय बताया गया है। इस उपाय के अनुसार किसी तंदूर में आठ मीठी रोटियाँ बनाकर कुत्तों को डालना इस अशुभ प्रभाव को दूर करेगा। इसके अलावा मिट्टी के बर्तन में गुड़ डालकर बाहर कहीं श्मशान भूमि में या जमीन में दबाना भी अच्छा प्रभाव देता है। लाल किताब के अलावा 'पद्म पुराण' में जिक्र आता है कि इस मंगल को बलवान बनाने के लिए पति-पत्नी दोनों को, स्नान करने के बाद गहरे लाल रंग के कपड़े पहनने चाहिए, फिर ताँबे के बर्तन को लाल रंग से रंगकर, कच्चे चावलों से भरकर लाल फूल व चंदन का लेप भी बर्तन में रखकर मंगल देवता को अर्पित करना चाहिए। इस उपाय से वैवाहिक जीवन में खुशी पैदा होगी और किसी हद तक व्यक्ति का क्रोध भी शांत हो जाएगा। इस स्थान पर मंगल के साथ बृहस्पति होना कोई विशेष अशुभ फल नहीं देता। आर्थिक तौर पर भी इसका प्रभाव अच्छा ही रहता है, यदि दूसरे घर में कोई अशुभ मह न हो। किंतु यदि उस कुंडली में सूर्य और शनि कहीं भी इकट्ठे हों तो मंगल अशुभ हो जाता है जिससे व्यक्ति की इक्कीस साल की आयु तक भाइयों पर अच्छा असर नहीं पड़ता । इस भाव में मंगल के साथ सूर्य होने से जातक को अच्छा फल नहीं देता; क्योंकि लाल किताब के अनुसार आठवें घर पर शनि का अधिकार है जिससे सूर्य का फल अशुभ हो जाता है।  इस स्थान पर मंगल के साथ चंद्रमा का होना, जातक की माता के स्वास्थ्य तथा मन की शांति के लिए अशुभ असर देता है। आर्थिक स्थिति पर भी इस युति का जातक पर प्रतिकूल प्रभाव पड़ता है जिससे पूर्ण रूप से आर्थिक स्थिरता नहीं आ पाती । आठवें स्थान पर मंगल के साथ शुक्र की युति को लाल किताब में कहा गया है कि-'ऐसे जन्मे चंदरभान चूल्हे आग न मंजे बान', अर्थात् यह योग जातक के परिवार या कुटुंब वालों पर अशुभ असर डालता है। इस स्थान पर मंगल के साथ बुध होने से व्यक्ति की बुआ, बहन या बेटी पर अशुभ असर पड़ता है। ननिहाल के परिवार के लिए भी यह युति खराब ही रहती है। ऐसे व्यक्ति को ननिहाल घर तथा मामाओं से दूर ही रहना चाहिए। मेष लग्न में आठवें स्थान पर मंगल के साथ शनि का होना बहुत अशुभ फल देता है। लाल किताब में इस स्थान पर दोनों ग्रहों की युति को 'मुर्दाघाट' या 'मंदी आग जलाने का मालिक' कहा है। ऐसे व्यक्ति को जीवन में कई प्रकार की तकलीफें रहती हैं और परिवार में असामयिक मृत्यु होने की संभावना भी रहती है। इस स्थान पर मंगल के साथ राहु का होना व्यक्ति के जीवन में अचानक ही मुसीबतें पैदा करने का कारण बनता है। कई बार उसके अपने भाइयों के साथ उसके संबंध प्रेम-पूर्वक नहीं रहते। यदि ऐसा व्यक्ति रसोई में ही ज्यादा बैठकर खाना खाए तो अशुभ असर कम हो जाता है। इस भाव में मंगल के साथ केतु की युति, व्यक्ति के स्वयं के लिए तथा उसके परिवार के लिए अच्छा प्रभाव नहीं देती। किसी-न-किसी मात्रा में यह अशुभ असर जातक के बेटे या भाई पर अवश्य पड़ता है।

Here, 'Jataka Parijata's' statement holds true for an auspicious Mars, but Kalyan Varma's view in 'Saravali' about a person being diseased, short-lived, or immoral is not entirely accurate; immorality is not strongly related to Mars. For Aries ascendant, Mars in Scorpio in the eighth house, being both the lord of the eighth and the ascendant lord, does not remain inauspicious. I've observed that for Aries ascendants, if Mars in the eighth house is auspicious (as I've defined), it doesn't give bad results; in fact, it can even make the person a politician or give good results in political matters. Similarly, an auspicious Mars prevents blemishes on one's reputation, maintaining social prestige. According to Asia Best Astrologer Officers with such a Mars, even if they take bribes, are far less likely to be caught. Our ancient astrologer Narayan Bhatt, in his great work 'Chamatkar Chintamani', wrote that Mars in the eighth house causes even friends to behave like enemies. Another astrologer, Shri Jageshwar, expressed a similar idea, stating that one's own people become like enemies or are unfriendly. To understand this, we must see Mars's connection to friends and acquaintances from the eighth house. Mars aspects the eleventh house with its fourth gaze, and the eleventh house signifies friends and connections. Therefore, these views about Mars in the eighth house largely seem correct, but only when Mars is inauspicious; an auspicious Mars, however, ensures the person receives help from others in life, and friends or relatives contribute positively. The ancient text 'Hora Makarat' describes fewer male children with Mars in the eighth, but the eighth house and Mars don't have a specific connection to progeny. For this, we should focus on Lal Kitab's insights. Lal Kitab states that Mars in the eighth house typically results in a four to eight-year age difference with younger siblings, meaning a younger sibling might be born much later or not at all, indicating an inauspicious effect on younger siblings. If another sibling survives before the native's age of eight or four, or after the younger sibling turns eight, it can bring distress to the family, or the native's birth might signify mourning. To remove these inauspicious effects, Lal Kitab suggests feeding eight sweet rotis baked in a tandoor to dogs, and also burying jaggery in an earthen pot in a cremation ground or in the earth. Beyond Lal Kitab, the 'Padma Purana' mentions that to strengthen this Mars, both spouses should wear deep red clothes after bathing, then offer a red-painted copper pot filled with raw rice, red flowers, and sandalwood paste to Mars, bringing marital happiness and calming anger. The presence of Jupiter with Mars in this house does not give special inauspicious results; financially, its effect is good, provided no malefic planets are in the second house. However, if the Sun and Saturn are together anywhere in the chart, Mars becomes inauspicious, negatively affecting siblings until the age of twenty-one. Sun with Mars in this house is inauspicious for the native because Lal Kitab states the eighth house is ruled by Saturn, making the Sun's results inauspicious. Moon with Mars adversely affects the native's mother's health and mental peace, and financially, it prevents complete stability. The conjunction of Venus with Mars in the eighth house is described in Lal Kitab as 'Aise janme Chanderbhan Choolhe Aag Na Manje Ban,' meaning it adversely affects the native's family.
