सातवें घर में मंगल होने से व्यक्ति मंगलीक दोषवाला माना जाता है। विश्वास किया जाता है कि इस मंगलीक दोष का अशुभ प्रभाव किसी-न-किसी रूप में वैवाहिक जीवन पर पडता है। लेकिन  प्राचीन सर्वश्रेष्ठ ज्योतिषी के अनुसार सातवें घर के मंगल के अशुभ प्रभाव को हमारे प्राचीन ज्योतिष के ग्रंथों में बहुत बढ़ा-चढ़ाकर बताया गया है। ज्योतिष के महान आचार्य पाराशर के अनुसार, सातवें घर में मंगल होने से पत्नी की मृत्यु होती है। इसी तरह 'फलदीपिका' में भी पत्नी की मृत्यु का वर्णन है। 'हिल्लाजातक' नामक ग्रंथ में पत्नी की मृत्यु होने का समय भी दिया गया है। इस ग्रंथ में जिक्र आता है कि उस व्यक्ति की 37 वर्ष की आयु में उसकी स्त्री की मृत्यु होती है और यवन मत के अनुसार भी उस व्यक्ति की पत्नी की मृत्यु हो जाती है। वास्तव में, यह वर्णन एक तरह से डरावना व भयानक है। यदि मंगल के सातवें घर में होने से पत्नी की मृत्यु हो तो इसका अर्थ हुआ कि हर बारह में से एक आदमी विधुर होगा या हर बारह स्त्रियों में से एक स्त्री विधवा होगी। क्योंकि, पंद्रह कुंडलियों में से मंगल लगभग एक की कुंडली में मंगलीक दोष बना सकता है। वास्तव में मंगल के इस तरह के अशुभ प्रभाव का वर्णन ठीक नहीं। हाँ, इतना जरूर मानना पड़ेगा कि इस घर का मंगल किसी-न-किसी रूप में विवाहित जीवन में कुछ कड़वापन पैदा करता है। इस कड़वाहट को बहुत बारीकी से समझने की आवश्यकता है। सोलहवीं शताब्दी के ज्योतिषी गुणाकार का मत है कि इस घर में मंगल होने से वह स्त्री अपने पति का अनादर करती है। दूसरे शब्दों में हम यह भी कह सकते हैं कि इस घर में मंगल होने से पुरुष अपनी स्त्री का अनादर करता है। यह बात किसी हद तक ठीक लगती है। इसका कारण यह है कि- मेष लग्न वालों के लिए शुक्र की तुला राशि आती है और शुक्र हमारे जीवन-साथी का कारक है। स्त्री-स्वभाव नाजुक शुक्र में, जब मंगल का अग्नि समान स्वभाव शामिल हो जाए तो उसमें किसी-न-किसी प्रकार का आक्रोश पैदा होना स्वाभाविक बात लगती है। पाराशर का मत है कि सातवें घर में मंगल होने से वह व्यक्ति नीच स्त्रियों से शारीरिक संबंध कायम करता है। इसी तरह ज्योतिष आचार्य श्री वशिष्ठ का मत है कि इस घर का मंगल पत्नी को दुराचारिणी बनाता है। यह विचार बहुत सीमित हद तक ही ठीक हो सकते हैं। यह ठीक है कि शुक्र के साथ मंगल का संबंध स्त्री या पुरुष को कामवासना से उत्तेजना पैदा करता है किकंतु यह जरूरी नहीं है कि वह दूसरी स्त्री या पुरुषों से संबंध रखे। दूसरे शब्दों में शायद ये कहना ज्यादा ठीक होगा कि ये मंगल पति या पत्नी की प्रेम भावना में वृद्धि करता है। कुछ लोगों का ये भी मत है, उदाहरण के तौर पर श्री पुंजराज का मत है कि इस घर में मंगल होने से उस व्यक्ति की स्त्री तरुण नहीं होती। उन्नीसवीं सदी के पंजाब के 'संकेत निधि' नामक ग्रंथ के रचयिता पं. रामदयालु का मत है कि ऐसे व्यक्ति की स्त्री साधारण रूप की होती है, यानी वह बहुत सुंदर नहीं होती। लेकिन इसका यह मतलब नहीं है कि यदि स्त्री कुरूप हो तो वह व्यक्ति दूसरों से शारीरिक संबंध रखे। सातवें घर में मंगल होने की स्थिति में मंगल के साथ कुछ और ग्रहों के संबंध के बारे में बात करना भी जरूरी है। यदि सातवें घर में मंगल के साथ शनि हो तो बुढ़ापे में नजर कमजोर होने का डर रहता है मगर व्यक्ति अंधा नहीं होगा। यहाँ पर एक बात यह भी है कि व्यक्ति का स्त्री के साथ शारीरिक संबंध होने से किस्मत जागती है। यदि इस घर में मंगल के साथ बुध हो तो ये अच्छा फल नहीं देता। वैवाहिक जीवन पर भी इसका प्रभाव अशुभ ही रहता है। मंगल के साथ यहाँ बैठा हुआ बुध व्यक्ति के खून के दौरे में कोई खराबी करता है जिससे जिस्म की नाड़ियों में किसी प्रकार के कष्ट रहने की संभावना रहती है। इसके अलावा वैवाहिक सुख में कमी आकर जीवन-भर फिजूलखर्च रहता है। इस घर में मंगल के साथ शुक्र का होना अशुभ नहीं है। ऐसी हालत में उस व्यक्ति का परिवार काफी बड़ा होगा। औलाद-पोते, भारी कबीला होता है और किसी प्रकार की अचानक मौतें भी परिवार में नहीं होंगी। वह व्यक्ति अपने खून के लोगों की सहायता करता है और उसको आर्थिक तौर पर भी कोई विशेष कष्ट नहीं होता। सातवें घर में मंगल-चंद्र का योग अच्छी आर्थिक स्थिति का कारण बनता है, और यदि साथ में बुध या केतु जैसा ग्रह भी आ जाए तो यह योग व्यक्ति को पैसे का लालची बनाता है। ऐसे व्यक्ति की मौत भी किसी सदमे या हादसे से होने की संभावना बढ़ जाती है। इस घर में मंगल के साथ बृहस्पति का होना अच्छा नहीं। क्योंकि बृहस्पति भी यहाँ तुला राशि में शत्रु घर में होगा और मंगल का फल अपने आपमें इतना शुभ नहीं है। ऐसी हालत में, वह व्यक्ति आमदनी के साधन होते हुए भी जीवन में बहुत हद तक पैसे के लिए तरसता ही रहता है। कुछ हालातों में उसका जाए तो मंगल का अशुभफल बहुत हद तक कम हो जाता है। लाल किताब में ये भी जिक्र आता है कि यहाँ मंगल होने से यदि घर में ठोस चाँदी रखी जाए तो मंगल का अशुभ फल बहुत हद तक नियंत्रित रहता है। इस सातवें स्थान पर मंगल के साथ सूर्य होने से गृहस्थ सुख में थोड़ी कमी रहती है क्योंकि व्यक्ति की पत्नी के स्वास्थ्य पर या मानसिक शांति पर अशुभ प्रभाव रहता है। इस बुरे असर को दूर करने के लिए ताँबे के सात चौकोर टुकड़े
