वृश्चिक राशि का प्रतीक बिच्छू है। इसलिए वृश्चिक लग्न के लोगों को अच्छी तरह समझने के लिए हमें बिच्छू के बारे में बहुत-सी बातों को समझना होगा। आमतौर पर जहरीले कीट जब अपना जहर भरा दंश मारते हैं तो वे जहर नहीं होता। उसका विष उसके पिछले भाग में होता है इसलिए उसका दंश मारने का भाग भी पिछला भाग है। आमतौर पर हम सांप का फन देखकर ही भयभीत हो जाते हैं किन्तु यदि बिच्छू को ध्यान से देखें तो उसका अगला भाग रेशम जैसा मुलायम होता है और उसके उस रेशमी भाग को देखकर यह अनुमान लगाना मुश्किल होगा कि ऐसा प्यारा कीट किसी को काटेगा! लेकिन यदि बिच्छू के पिछले भाग को देखें तो उसे वह थोड़ा ऊपर उठाये रखता है। शायद बिच्छू के अगले भाग का मुलायम व कोमल होना तथा पिछले भाग का विष से भरा होना यह दर्शाता है कि वृश्चिक लग्न के व्यक्ति में दोनों प्रकार के गुण होते हैं। यह कहना अतिश्योक्ति नहीं होगी कि वृश्चिक लग्न में बहुत से लोग हुए हैं जिन्होंने आध्यात्मिक तथा जनसेवा में बहुत प्रगति की है। साथ-ही-साथ वृश्चिक लग्न में ही ऐसे बहुत लोग पैदा हुए हैं जो डाकू, नाजायज शराब बेचने वाले या और बहुत से खतरनाक बुरे काम करने वाले हुए हैं। और कुछ लोग वृश्चिक लग्न को साधु या डाकू कहकर भी पुकारते हैं। शायद यह शब्द कुछ ज्यादा कठोर है, किन्तु काफी हद तक वृश्चिक लग्न की यह व्याख्या ठीक प्रतीत होती है। हमारे एक प्राचीन ग्रंथ 'चतुर्वर्गा चिंतामणि' में वृश्चिक राशि के बारे में जिक्र आता है कि वृश्चिक राशि एक ऐसा आदमी है जिसका चेहरा बंदर का है और वह बिच्छू पर सवार है। उसके एक हाथ में माला है और दूसरे हाथ में शराब का प्याला है। महान ज्योतिषी विचार के अनुसार 'चतुर्वर्गा चिंतामणि' में वृश्चिक लग्न के बारे में यह व्याख्या बहुत यथार्थ पूर्ण लगती है और वृश्चिक लग्न के बारे में पूरी रोशनी भी डालती है। उसके एक हाथ में माला का होना इस बात का प्रतीक है कि वह व्यक्ति अपने जीवन में अध्यात्म के शिखर-बिन्दु पर भी पहुंच सकता है और दूसरी अति में वह अपना जीवन मदिरापान से खुद ही नष्ट कर सकता है। पुराने कुछ ग्रंथों में यह वर्णन आता है कि वृश्चिक लग्न मृत्यु तथा विनाश से बहुत घनिष्ठ संबंध रखता है। शायद इसका कारण यह है कि कालपुरुष कुडली के अनुसार वृश्चिक राशि आठवें घर में अर्थात् मौत के घर में पड़ती है इसलिए वृश्चिक लग्न वालों के मन में मौत के बारे में किसी-न-किसी रूप में कोई जिज्ञासा उठती ही रहती है और जहां तक विनाश का संबंध है इसमें भी बहुत वास्तविकता लगती है। क्योंकि यदि हम आत्महत्या करने वाले लोगों की संख्या देखें तो उनमें सबसे ज्यादा आत्महत्या वृश्चिक लग्न वाले लोग ही करते हैं। वे आत्महत्या न भी करें तो उन्हें आत्महत्या करने के विचार बहुत आते हैं और यदि विचार न भी आएं तो वह मौत के बारे में किसी-न-किसी रूप में विचार किसी भी रूप में ठीक * नहीं होते। बल्कि ऐसा उनकी अंतर्विनाश रुचि के कारण ही होता है और यही कारण है कि जितनी उनमें इच्छाशक्ति व बल होता है वह उसको पूरी तरह प्रयोग में नहीं ला पाते और इस तरह अपने जीवन में प्रगति के शीर्ष पर पहुंचना उनके लिए असंभव हो जाता है। बल्कि यूं कहना चाहिए कि संभव तो होता है किंतु वे स्वयं ही इसको संभव नहीं होने देते। मेरे अपने अनुभव के अनुसार यह देखने में भी आया है कि बहुत बार वृश्चिक लग्न के लोगों को अपनी योग्यता, शक्ति और विशेष प्रकार की बुद्धि का पूरा ज्ञान नहीं होता। यानी वह कितनी क्षमता रखते हैं, अनेक बार वह अपना जीवन व्यतीत होने तक इसे नहीं जान पाते। लेकिन जो लोग सामने कभी प्रकट नहीं करते। यह भेद उनके बुरे कामों के बारे में भी हो सकते हैं या अच्छे कामों के बारे में भी हो सकते हैं। शायद यही कारण है कि कई ग्रंथों में यह वर्णन आता है कि वृश्चिक लग्न के व्यक्ति
