मेरे एक परामर्शकर्ता एक दफ़ा मेरे पास आए थे। उनकी अपने कामकाज के बारे में कोई समस्या थी, जिसके बारे में वे विस्तार से पूछना चाहते थे और उपाय भी जानना चाहते थे। कुछ दिनों के बाद जब वै फिर मेरे पास आए तो उनके साथ उनकी पत्नी भी थी। उन्होंने कहा कि आज मैं जो समस्या लेकर आया हूं, वह कुछ अजीब किस्म की है। "वास्तव में, मैं आपसे जानना चाहता हूं कि मेरी पत्नी का स्वभाव कुछ अजीब-सा क्यूं है?” उन्होंने पत्नी की कुंडली मुझे दी। उनकी पत्नी का लग्न कर्क था। मैंने कहा- "आपकी पत्नी तो वास्तव में आपके परिवार की धुरी हैं जिस पर आप, आपके बच्चे और आपका घर शांतिपूर्वक घूम रहा है। ऐसे में, अपनी पत्नी के बारे में आपको क्या शिकायत है?" उन्होंने बताया- "हमारी शादी हुए काफी साल हो गए हैं किंतु कई बार ये कुछ देर के लिए या कई बार कुछ दिनों के लिए बिल्कुल ख़ामोश-सी हो जाती हैं और मुझसे खुलकर बात नहीं करतीं और जब मैं इसका कारण पूछता हूं तो जल्दी कारण भी नहीं बतातीं। मगर बहुत जोर देकर पूछने पर पता चलता है कि मैंने कुछ दिन पहले इनके बारे में कोई बात कही थी, जिसका मुझे ध्यान तक नहीं और ये इतने दिन से इसी का बुरा मानकर ख़ामोश रहीं।" उन्होंने उदाहरण देते हुए कहा कि- 'जब हमारी शादी हुए कुछ दिन ही हुए थे तो इन्होंने पहली बार एक खरबूज़ा काटा और खरबूजे के बहुत ही छोटे-छोटे टुकड़े कर दिए।' मैंने हंसकर कहा- 'इतने छोटे-छोटे टुकड़े तो बच्चों के लिए काटते हैं। टुकड़े इससे कुछ बड़े काटने चाहिए थे। बात खत्म हो गई और दूसरे दिन मैंने देखा कि इनका चेहरा उतरा हुआ था।' मैंने हैरान होकर पूछा- 'क्या आपकी तबीयत खराब है?' इन्होंने जवाब दिया- 'नहीं! तबीयत ठीक है।' फिर बात करते हुए मैंने ऑफिस जाने से पहले इनसे कहा- 'आज शाम को मैं सोचता हूं कि हम सिनेमा देखने चलें, मैं आते हुए टिकटें लेता आऊंगा।' इन्होंने मेरी तरफ़ न देखकर दीवार की तरफ़ देखते हुए कहा- 'नहीं, मुझे घर के काफी काम हैं, मैं नहीं जा सकती।' इस तरह का सिलसिला लगभग एक हफ्ते तक चलता रहा और मैं अपने आप में चिंतित हुआ कि आखिर इनके स्वभाव में इस तरह का अंतर कैसे आ गया। जब मैंने प्यार से बहुत ज़ोर देकर पूछा तो एकदम जैसे इनके अंदर से कोई दबी हुई आग भड़क उठी और कहा- 'ठीक है. आप आगे से खुद ही खरबूज़ा काट लिया करो। मुझे खरबूज़ा काटना नहीं आता ।' यह सुनकर मुझ बहुत हंसी आई और इनको प्यार से समझाते हुए कहा- 'मुझे तो बिल्कुल याद तक नहीं कि मैंने आपको ऐसा कहा भी था या नहीं।' उस आदमी ने आगे बात करते हुए कहा- "हम एक बार शाम को वैसे ही बाज़ार में घूमने के लिए जाने वाले थे तो इनकी नई साड़ी देखकर मैंने पूछा- "क्या ये नई साडी है ?" - तो ये हंसकर कहने लगीं- 'हां, मेरे मायके से दी हई है।' साडी की तरफ मैंने ध्यान से देखते हुए कहा- 'इसका रंग थोडा शोख-सा है। यह तो बाज़ार की बजाय कहीं पाटी या शादी आदि में जाना हो तब आप पर काफी अच्छी लगेगी।' फिर ये बाज़ार नहीं गईं और फिर चेहरा उतर गया और एक खामोशी उनकी जुबान पर छा गई। बस केवल जरूरी बात का जवाब देती रहीं और कभी खुलकर बात नहीं की। जब इस बात को तीन-चार दिन गुज़र गए तो मैंने बहुत मजबूर होकर इनसे नाराजगी का कारण पूछा तो कहने लगीं- 'ठीक है, वह साड़ी मायके की दी हुई थी, वह बाज़ार में कैसे पहनी जा सकती है। शायद ये उदाहरण कर्क लग्न के बारे में एक इशारा करते हैं।" कर्क लग्न में बहुत संवेदनशीलता है। इन पर बहुत छोटी-सी बात इतना असर कर सकती है कि कहने वाले को पता तक न चले कि आखिर मैंने ऐसी क्या गलती की है? जब इनको कोई बात कही जाए तो ये बहुत कम उस बात का प्रतिकार करते हैं। उस बात को अपने अंदर ही एक आग की तरह छुपा लेते हैं। और कई दिनों तक बार-बार उसी के बारे में सोचते रहते हैं। जब तक बात साफ न हो जाए, इनका साधारण हालत में आना मुश्किल होता है। दूसरे लोगों की तरह यदि ये किसी बात का, जो उन्हें बुरी लगती हो अपने बारे में, एकदम जवाब दे दें तो शायद इस तरह का मानसिक भारीपन न रहता। लेकिन ये बुरी लगने वाली बात का भी उसी समय जवाब नहीं देंगे और उसके दुःख को स्वयं ही झेलेंगे। वास्तव में, यह कोई दुःख तो नहीं है, केवल उनकी संवेदनशीलता की सीमा का ज़रूरत से ज्यादा बढ़ जाना ही है। यदि ध्यान से देखा जाए तो कर्क लग्न वालों के लिए इस तरह का होना यथार्थ लगता है। कर्क लग्न का स्वामी चंद्रमा है। चंद्रमा हमारे मन का, हमारी भावनाओं का और हमारे अंदर चल रही भावुकता की लहरों का कारक है। कक लग्न को समझने के लिए हमें चंद्रमा के बारे में समझना बहुत जरूरी है। क्योंकि चंद्रमा एक ही राशि का मालिक होता है जबकि सूर्य को छोड़कर दूसरे सभी ग्रहों की दो-दो राशियां होती हैं। बस यही कारण है कि कर्क लग्न वालों के लिए चंद्रमा के स्वभाव की चेहरों पर अपनी शांति की वर्षा करती हुई छा गई। शिव भोलेनाथ ने इस चंद्रमा को एक गहने की तरह अपनी जटाओं में सजा लिया। चंद्रमा स्वभाव से बहुत शांत है। इसमें अग्नि या उष्णता की बहुत कमी है। यही कारण है कि कर्क लग्न वाले बहुत कम क्रोधित होते हैं। यद्यपि, वे क्रोधित तो हो सकते हैं किंतु इस क्रोध को वे दूसरों पर प्रकट नहीं करते और अपने क्रोध से कभी भी दूसरों को जलाने की कोशिश नहीं करते। शायद ही कर्क लग्न वाला ऐसा कोई व्यक्ति हो, जो बहुत ज़ोर से या ऊंची आवाज़ से दूसरों से झगड़ा-लड़ाई करे। बहुत हालतों में कर्क लग्न वाले उन लोगों को पसंद नहीं करते, जो बहुत ऊंची आवाज़ में बात करते हैं। कर्क लग्न के व्यक्ति दूसरों के साथ प्रेमपूर्वक व्यवहार करते हैं। अपनी खुदगर्जी को सामने न रखते हुए ये लोग दूसरे की तकलीफ़ देखकर बहुत पिघल जाते हैं और एक आम सीमा से आगे बढ़कर भी दूसरों की सहायता करते हैं। ऐसी सहायता करने से ही इनके मन पर जो दूसरे के कष्ट का प्रभाव इनको परेशान करता है, ये उसी से छुटकारा पाने के लिए अपनी सहानुभूति को बहुत खुले दिल से दूसरों में बांटते हैं। दूसरे शब्दों में, जैसे कर्क राशि का स्वामी चंद्रमा भोलेनाथ की जटाओं में सजा हुआ एक गहना है, उसी कारण से चंद्रमा में शिव के वे गुण भी आते हैं जिनके कारण शिव को भोलेनाथ कहकर पुकारा गया है। इसी कारण से कर्क लग्न वालों में चालाकी या कूटनीति के स्थान पर एक बच्चों जैसा भोलापन होता है। शायद इसीलिए इनका जीवन के प्रति दृष्टिकोण भी बहुत हद तक एक बच्चे के समान होता है। दूसरों की बुराइयों पर वह विशेष ध्यान नहीं देते और जो बात इनको आकर्षित करती है, उसी से इनके मन में खुशी की लहर दौड़ जाती है। सभी ग्रहों में चंद्रमा हमारे शैशवकाल यानी बचपन का कारक ग्रह माना गया है। इसीलिए कर्क लग्न वालों में एक बच्चे जैसी मासूमियत या भोलापन जीवन-भर बना रहता आमतौर पर ये कष्ट व्यक्ति को शारीरिक तौर पर होने की संभावना ज्यादा रहती है या कोई ऐसी स्थिति पैदा होती है जिसके कारण व्यक्ति की भावनात्मक अवस्था बिगड़ सकती है। ऐसी अवस्था किसी नजदीकी रिश्ते में मृत्यु शांति के लिए यह ज़रूरी है कि वह ठंडे इलाकों में रहें और ऐसे वातावरण में रहें जहां पर शांति या ख़ामोशी की मात्रा बहुत हद तक हो। जैसे चंद्रमा और किसी भी ग्रह के मुकाबले हर रोज घटता-बढ़ता रहता है, इसी तरह से ही कर्क लग्न वालों की चित्त-वृत्ति का मूड बहुत तेजी से बदलती रहती है। लेकिन कोई भी जीवन की अमावस्या हो तो कुछ देर के बाद कर्क का स्वामी चंद्रमा उसको पूर्णिमा में बदल सकता है। इसीलिए जीवन के प्रति इनका दृष्टिकोण कभी निराशाजनक नहीं होता है। कभी-कभी जब कर्क लग्न वालों के मन में किसी प्रकार का अकेलापन पैदा होता है तो उनके लिए सबसे अच्छी जीवन संजीवनी है कि वह अपने विचारों की दुनिया में यात्रा करते हुए पीछे की ओर लौट जाएं और अपने जीवन के बचपन की छोटी-छोटी बातों को याद करें और अपने बचपन के छोटे-छोटे ख़ुशी के बिताए हुए पलों को फिर अपने विचारों से जीएं। इससे उनके मानसिक स्वास्थ्य पर बहुत अच्छा प्रभाव पड़ सकता है। कुछ लोगों का तो यहां तक विचार है कि यदि आप कर्क लग्न वाले व्यक्ति को पहचानना चाहते हैं और कुछ घंटे उसके साथ बिताएं तो वह अपनी बातों में ज़रूर अपने बचपन में पहुंच जाएगा। अपने मां-बाप के बारे में कोई बात करेगा या अपने बचपन की बीती छोटी-छोटी घटनाओं में किसी-न-किसी संदर्भ में, कोई-न-कोई बात ज़रूर करेगा। कुछ लोगों का विचार है कि कर्क लग्न के व्यक्ति बहुत ही शांत स्वभाव के होते दृष्टिकोण, उनको किसी भी संघर्षमयी अवस्था को ठीक ढंग से जीतने के लिए एक तेज़ तलवार की तरह काम करता है और वह अपने मानसिक बल से बहुत-सी मुश्किल स्थितियों पर काबू पा सकते हैं। उनकी मानसिक शक्ति के बारे में यह भी कहा जाता है कि और किसी भी लग्न के मुकाबले कर्क लग्न का व्यक्ति अपने बीते हुए जीवन की घटनाओं को ऐसे याद कर सकता है जैसे वह अभी बीती हो, और उनके छोटे-छोटे विस्तार को इस ढंग से कहता है जैसे कि आध्यात्मिक दुनिया में प्रवेश करता है। यहां पर उसके भाव की शक्ति ज्यादा होने से उसकी आध्यात्मिक शक्ति में स्पष्टता पैदा तो नहीं होती लेकिन उसके बीज ज़रूर बोए जाते हैं। मेरा अपना विचार है कि कर्क राशि के बाद जब दूसरी जलराशि वृश्चिक आती है तो उसमें व्यक्ति आध्यात्मिक गहराइयों को ज्यादा देख पाता है, क्योंकि वृश्चिक राशि में मृत्यु या हमारी दुनियादारी के लिहाज़ से जो छुपे हुए भेद हैं, उनको वृश्चिक राशि का व्यक्ति ज्यादा जानता है और इसके बाद उसके आध्यात्मिक विकास में प्रगति होती है। इसीलिए जब हम अंतिम जलराशि यानी मीन राशि में आते हैं तब आध्यात्मिकता की यह प्रगति अपने शिखर तक पहुंच सकती है। मेरे कहने का यह मतलब नहीं है कि इन राशियों वाले व्यक्ति जरूर ही आध्यात्मिक विकास करेंगे। मैं सिर्फ इतना कहना चाहता हूं कि कर्क राशि हमारे दूसरे जितने लग्न हैं, उनमें से कर्क लग्न आध्यात्मिकता में प्रवेश कराने का पहला द्वार है। कर्क लग्न वालों में किसी भी काम को करने की कोई जल्दी नहीं होती। यह उनके शांत स्वभाव का हिस्सा है। लेकिन यदि ध्यान से देखें तो इसी कारण से वे लोग अपने जीवन में बहुत से अच्छे अवसर खो सकते हैं क्योंकि किसी भी काम को उसी समय में कर लेना उनके बस की बात नहीं। कभी आप इनको चलते हुए देखें, उनमें कोई जल्दबाजी नहीं होगी। वह आराम से जैसे अपने आप से ही बातें करता हुआ अपने अंदर की दुनिया में जीता हुआ चल रहा है, ऐसा महसूस होता है। यदि ऐसे व्यक्ति, जो विचार आया है या जो काम करने की हमें आवश्यकता है उसको उसी समय कर सकें, तो वह जीवन में बहुत अच्छी उन्नति कर सकते हैं। कर्क लग्न में बृहस्पति अपनी उच्च राशि का होने के कारण, कर्क लग्न वालों का धर्म में विश्वास होता है और जीवन के क्षेत्र में कर्क लग्न वाले व्यक्ति प्रचार का व्यवसाय या शिक्षा के व्यवसाय में भी जा सकते हैं। जलराशि का कर्क लग्न में बहुत प्रभाव होने के कारण ऐसे लोगों के लिए जल से उत्पन्न होने वाली चीजों के काम में भी बहुत सफलता मिलती है। यह ठीक है कि चंद्रमा, जो कर्क राशि का स्वामी है, उसकी कोई अपनी ज्योति नहीं है, का चित्त होने के कारण, ब्रह्मांड के अंदर छुपी हुई चीज़ों को बहुत हद तक जान सकता है। क्योंकि सूर्य की शक्ति जो आंख से देखती है, वह चीज़ों के ऊपरी हिस्से को देख सकती है, लेकिन चंद्रमा की शक्ति मन में भी, ब्रह्मांड की बहुत गहराई में छुपी हुई चीज़ों को भी देख सकती है।
