वृष लग्न के बारे में सबसे अच्छे ज्योतिषियों के विचार आपस में बहुत मतभेद रखते हैं। इन मतभेदों का होना वास्तव में ठीक भी लगता है। वृष लग्न एक रूप में गुस्से से आग-बबूला हुआ ऐसा सांड है, जो अपने शत्रु का बीज-नाश तक करने को तैयार है और दूसरी तरफ ये शिवजी का वाहन नंदी बैल है, जो अपनी मस्ती में झूमता हुआ चलता है, लेकिन जल्दी से कहीं पहुँचने की उसे कोई चिंता नहीं है। कहा जाता है कि-शिवजी के ससुर जिनका नाम दक्ष था, वह एक बार शिवजी से खुश होकर उन्हें कुछ भेंट करना चाहते थे। अब भोलेनाथ को कौन-सी वस्तु भेंट की जाए, यह सोच पाना उनके बस की बात नहीं थी। सुंदर वस्तुओं से शिवजी का कोई विशेष प्रेम नहीं था और सोना-जेवरात भी उनकी नजर में कोई कीमत नहीं रखते थे । उनके लिए तो गले में पहने हुए जहरीले नाग ही उनका हार-श्रृंगार हैं और वे अपने ही नशे की मस्ती में झूमते हुए खुश रहते हैं। बहुत सोच-विचार के बाद उनके ससुर ने उनको भेंट के तौर पर एक बैल दिया। इसी बैल का नाम नंदी था जो शिव का वाहन बना। इसका रूप ऐसा था जैसे सफेद बर्फ का कोई सुंदर बलवान बैल, और जिसके शरीर से शक्ति-ही-शक्ति फूट रही हो। उसकी गर्दन बहुत मांसल थी और उसके शक्तिशाली सींगों का ऊपर का हिस्सा लाल रंग का था और वे सींग इतने कठोर-सख्त थे, जैसे हीरे के बने हुए हों। शिवजी एक महान् योगी हैं और वह जीवन को हर रूप में भोगना चाहते हैं। इसीलिए यह शिवजी के लिए सबसे अच्छा वाहन था क्योंकि साँड मस्ती और कामुक ऊर्जा का सबसे अच्छा प्रतीक माना जाता है। यह कोई आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है, कि वृष लग्न वाले लोगों में इस प्रकार का स्वभाव पाया जाता है। हमारे ज्योतिष के एक प्राचीन विद्वान् श्री हिमाद्रो ने अपने ज्योतिष ग्रंथ 'चतुर्वर्ग चिंतामणि' में बारह राशियों के प्रतीकात्मक चिह्नों की चर्चा करते हुए लिखा है कि-वृष राशि का आकार ऐसा है जैसे एक सफेद रंग का दूध जैसा आदमी हो किंतु उसका चेहरा बैल का हो। वह लाल कपड़े पहने हुए है और उसके एक हाथ में खाली बर्तन है और दूसरे हाथ में माला है। वृष राशि के इस प्रतीक रूप को समझने से, वृष लग्न के व्यक्तियों की हमें काफी अच्छी जानकारी हो सकती है। उसके हाथ में एक खाली बर्तन इस बात का प्रतीक है कि-वृष लग्न वाले व्यक्ति अपनी आर्थिक सफलता से कभी पूरी तरह संतुष्ट नहीं होते । उनके लिए धन केवल उनकी जरूरतों को पूरा करने का साधन ही नहीं है बल्कि धन उनके लिए जीवन का आधार है। उनकी नजर में इस बात का महत्व अधिक है कि-उनके पास क्या है ? और बहुत हद तक उनके व्यक्तित्व की गरिमा उनके पास होने वाले धन तथा अन्य कीमती चीजों से होती है। इस अर्थ में शायद यह खाली बर्तन का प्रतीक ठीक है. जिसे वे निरंतर भरने की कोशिश में रहते हैं: लेकिन फिर भी उनको लगता है कि ये खाली का खाली ही है और वे इसे लगातार भरते ही रहना चाहते हैं। संभवतः यह भी हो सकता है कि वह खाली बर्तन कब का भर चुका हो, और उसमें कुछ और डालने की गुंजाइश भी न हो, मगर वृष लग्न वालों को किसी भी प्रकार से मानसिक संतुष्टि नहीं होती, कुछ हद तक वह भूखी ही रह जाती है। दूसरे, जो उस व्यक्ति के हाथ में माला का होना दर्शाया गया है, वह माला उसके हाथ में जरूर है, मगर उस माला के द्वारा वह किसी दूसरी दुनिया में नहीं पहुँच पाता और न ही वह इस माला से जाप कर सकता है। लेकिन, वृष लग्न के हजारों व्यक्तियों में एक व्यक्ति जरूर ऐसा होता है जो अपने अंतिम समय में इस माला का प्रयोग कर आध्यात्मिक उन्नति कर सकता है। उदाहरण के तौर पर, यहाँ पर मैं महात्मा बुद्ध का जिक्र करना जरूरी समझता हूँ। कहा जाता है कि बुद्ध वृष लग्न में पैदा हुए, उनको इसी राशि में ज्ञान प्राप्त हुआ और इसी राशि में उन्होंने शरीर का त्याग किया। इसीलिए बहुत-से उत्सव व पर्व वृष राशि में ही मनाए जाते हैं जब पूर्ण चंद्रमा और सूर्य वृष राशि से गुजरते हैं। यहाँ पर कहने का तात्पर्य यह है कि -
